BTW, I see I wasn't too far off on the rebound margin. That was killer. Bounces off of missed lay ups and chip shots just always seem to go to the tall guy where missed 3 pt shots can end up anywhere.

Grotberg is absolutely amazing. This was maybe his best offensive effort of the year. While we were all frustrated by the style of play, 'that girls' boyfriend -who is from North Carolina-didn't see what we were miffed about concerning the pace of the game, but was overwhelmed by Grotberg's raw talent.

the game

I hope that tough schedule does pay of for BC however as in years past it probably won't. With a team that lost the best player in the schools history and that currently doesn't have a veteran group sort to speak, that schedule is idiotic. That gives them no confidence. The win vs SNC was a must. They were looking at 9 straight losses if they would not of won that game.  On this current road trip this week BC is looking at at least 2 losses (LU, GC) They must win the monmouth game. Youngblood usually does a good job vs GC so that game is a possibility. The last 5 games are brutal (@LFC, @IC, @SNC, LU, @RC) They'd have to win at least 2 of those games to get into the tourney. With a watered down league this year I'd like to believe BC could sneak in but the smart money is on the typical 5th or 6th place finish. 70-142 in the Blood era. Is that right?  That's a .330 winning percentage with the likes of grant, flowers, Entwistle, Hendry and the aformentioned Hinz. All MWC all conference picks.

Mr. Downtown

Being from Fort Atkinson, its hard for me to believe that Janesville Parker would be any good at MEN's Basketball.

Perhaps the Women's Basketball team of the late 90's/early 2000's might have shot. :)

or then again, maybe I would have believed you for second if you said Janesville Craig.

Mr. Downtown

Um...just checked Parker's record, and they are last in the Big 8 conference.

Good to know that everything is normal,  back in my neck of the woods.

As I recall the rim is a little looser towards the side with a wall behind it.  LU always shoots better in the 2nd half.

A somewhat sloppy game.  LU didn't play very well.

The system returns, albeit a bit sloppily at times.

Beloit's defense didn't have anything to do with that either. Lawrence just played bad. Tharp had them deliberately missing shots and sometimes they'd only have 3 or 4 players on the floor at a time. Yup, that's exactly how I remember it.

I'll just make something up now to keep my readers happy................ This one stared out like a Grinnell game for the first 10 minutes or so. If a 3 was taken it generally found the bottom of the net for both teams. I don't think a 2 was scored in the first 5 minutes. Can't verify that right now as there are some difficulties with the stats.

Beloit opened the scoring with a 3 by Dowden but the next time you looked up it was 8-3 LU. Here we go again I thought. But the Bucs answered right back as they did for most of the game. LUs largest lead of the first half was 6. The refs finally found their whistles and that settled down what had been a pretty rough game to that point. An LU player even got a T and Tharp didn't offer much protest, so that should give you some idea of the physical play. It was away from the ball so I didn't see it directly, but I didn't see anything flagrant out of the corner of my eye. I'm guessing he said something he shouldn't have.

In the second half Beloit got stuck on 40 for a while and then again at 50. LU really started watching who got the ball for Beloit beyond the arc. Although if Beloit makes the shots then it's poor defense and if they miss the the shots it's either good defense or they forced the shots. Who's to know what the truth is ??

Beloit's rebounding has improved noticeably but it's still a tip drill at times. Loose balls............sneak some stick-um into the game or something because they never seem to come up with them. I'm not going to make a "what if" list because you can always go the other way with it. Instead I think Beloit simply ran out of gas. LU had better depth, the lead and it's always easier to play down the stretch with those two advantages.

Props to Matt Fieck tonight. He was awesome.

System ball returns!!!
Great game for the most part with a let down in the second half. Just kinda lost focus, i guess, but kept it together enough to keep a decent margin. For ten minutes in the first half and 5 in the second, no-one coulda kept up with them. When it all gels, I will be one happy fella.

Thoughts go out to Ahmed Idrissa this week. Take the strength you show on the court, give it to your family and we will see you on the court again soon.

Nope, not any more. Larry put in "NEW" Rims this year and Both are very tight. No easy garbage buckets anymore at Alex!!!!!

NO WAY!

I can't believe they did that!?!?!  I personally felt it was such a home court advantage.  The visiting team would shoot at the loose end when their legs were fresh.  Then by the second half when the visiting team switched sides, it was like shooting on a 10 1/2 foot rim...no joke...plus as the 2nd half wore on, shots were harder to hit.

I could be completely alone on this, but sure seemed like it.

Always appreciate your insights....feel compelled to give you my thoughts on your Bucs.  I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.  When I saw some early season scores, I thought a train wreck was brewing in Beloit...not the case at all.  Fieck is very solid and obviously was tremendous last night.  Best player on the floor.  I think your point guard Dowden is very solid.  I also like Horton.  I think he and the team would be well served if he would be more assertive offensively.  He has a lot of talent.  Depth is lacking.  Also, the team played together and as close to there talent level as I have seen out of a Beloit team in a while.   Solid D effort.

I did notice that LU had a lot better movement out of their offense than Beloit.

Overall, they are going to win more games than I thought.
