RC 73 LFC 72

WOW!  A game winner....PAUL WISE....Top of the key fade for the win!  Paul Wise capped off his best game of his career with 26 points on 10-14 FG...and a dunk! :)  This is following his MWC player of the week honor.  This junior is slowly becoming  a major factor to Ripon's fast start.  Ripon is winning all the close games this year and I believe it has to do the senior leadership....don't discount that.

Was I the only non-Grinnell fan to pick the LU upset?  I saw it coming...LU is NOT the same team...life was nice with Braier....

It will be interesting to see if Ripon can complete the weekend sweep...always a tough thing to do.

The Roop

Enjoy it now, Ripon finishes 7-9 in conference. They can't play as a team for 3 years and suddenly they can............. Sounds like a problem or two graduated. A good coach would have fixed that two years ago. Then again, Gillespie didn't care if Dowden went there or not. I guess Baseball is the priority at UW-Ripon Tech.

Roop...C'mon...say what you want....last year was the first losing season for Ripon in over 20 years!!!!

2 years ago, that same Ripon team that couldn't win lost in the conference finals to Lawerence at LU...A GREAT LU team.

Don't be bitter ROOP!

Hate hate hate!

I'm not bitter I just don't like Ripon. That started back when Weiske was still coaching there so my sentiments are not a recent phenomenon. I certainly don't "hate" them because that implies I'm wishing ill will on them personally and that's not the case.

FINAL -- Monmouth 80, Ripon 79

Ripon won the night before at Lake Forest on Paul Wise's buzzer-beater. He had a chance to be the hero again but missed a leaner just before the horn.

Big win for the Fighting Scots, who have played the last three without leading scorer Joe Terwelp.

File both of Monmouth's victories this weekend under the "team win" category, as a number of different role players stepped up.

On the stat side, the Scots were a combined 35-of-40 on free throws in the two wins.

Some observations from the MC weekend:

- Horton from Beloit with a pretty good weekend, despite the two losses, averaging 31 a game...why was he only averaging 11.6 coming into the weekend?
- Johson from Ripon having an awful weekend...coming in averaging 14.5 and gets 15 points total?
- the Scots raise their FT % from 74% to 78% over the weekend...who knows if they win either game if they don't do it from the stripe.
- as a former pg and just a true basketball fan, I'd like to see what Mcmullen could do if he went all out for an entire game...look at his stats vs. MC - they're fine, but for a guy with his quickness, it looks like he could be so much more...wasn't he a d-1 transfer?
- Schwanman beat me to it...great contributions from role players to get both w's.
- finally, the Scots are still a mystery to me...how they can give Carroll and Ripon their only conference losses of the season, yet lose to IC and that team from G'burg is beyond me...

Boy, just took a look at the pick 'em board...I guess I should've put my picks in, because there would've been at least ONE guy picking MC to beat the Hawks...shame on you Scottie and Maverick!!

I was expecting Horton to put up 20 a game or so but in the first part of the season he was really foul prone. He's much improved in that department now but that's what was has keeping his numbers down. He also missed some time due to illness. After the 3rd or 4th game I crunched some numbers on points scored vs. minutes played and put that into a 35 minutes a game scenario. He would be averaging 20.68 if he stayed in long enough.

Hey, cut me some slack!  Without Terwelp, I was hoping for a split...   ;)

But, KUDOS to my Scots for pulling out a weekend sweep.  Here's hoping the team continues to keep it's mojo.
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

Maybe Terwelp is just a ball hog who has been stealing production from the rest of the team. LMAO.

Terwelp's definitely not a ball hog...just a matter of the Scots pulling together without their leading scorer...and, a big difference in the effort against Beloit/Ripon vs. IC/that team from G'burg.

...and Scottie, we'll see if the Scots can keep their mojo with 3 tough, but winnable games on the road...if they can come out of that still in the race, it brings up 3 HUGE games at home vs. Grinnell, Lawrence & Carroll.

What a fine weekend for Grinnell Men's basketball! First win against Larry since the triple ot game here four years ago. Larry definitely misses the horses inside, but still play some solid defense outside. Grinnell just finally decided they were not gonna lose this ballgame. Lots of heroes  in that game. Grotberg with 46 pts, but he will be remembered for the trey with .2 seconds on the clock that tied the game. Ticus with 3 straight treys to start the game and steals in bunches, but he will be remembered for DESIGNING and executing the amazing inbounds pass to Long with less than two seconds remaining in regulation. Chamberlain HUNG ON TO THE BALL!!!!! but he will be remembered for igniting the offense with his slam dunk when Grinnell was still behind. Long with 30 points, but he will be remembered for sinking ft after ft in the ot. Davey with solid play but he will be remembered for taking his 5th foul at the end of regulation that actually ended up giving GC a chance to go to ot.
The whole team will be remembered for the incredible, incendiary effort at the start of ot that ended the game early in the extra time despite the best efforts of Larry. Decker with just a few minutes at the end...whats up with that, anyway? I thought he was supposed to be unstoppable! Larry will be back but GC just really wanted this game.
GC looked tired-as did BC, actually-in the Saturday game. Everyone stepped up as necessary though and only proved how good this team-even when dog tired-could/can/will be. Horton is VERY impressive-probably the best big man I've seen play this year-including the Carthage crew. Didn't see the bigs from UWW and O to compare, but this guy is something. Also nice to see and chat briefly with Gobucs Jr.! Glad to hear school is going well! (remember, you DID NOT see me if you meet my Grandson, but with my luck you already did when you got back to DSM! ;D :D ;D)

Again, Lots of heroes, but a true team effort for GC in both games.

I could see GoBucs Jr. on the webcast, now I know who he was sitting by!  Kudos to Grinnell on a fine weekend ;D
