Anyone notice how we haven't had a lot of the "we get no respect" posts on the board this year? We're closing in on the halfway point in the schedule and everyone has at least 5 losses on their overall record. Not too good.

What's it going to take to host the conference tournament this year? 3 conference losses? 4? Does anyone have a team that they think is the favorite?

Early

System,
Do you think anyone would pick a team other than their favorite?

Well I think there is a 50/50 chance the MWC tournament will be at Beloit, although I'm saying that only because I heard rumors they wanted a neutral site this year.

I defer to Hoops Fans reply.

My point is that unlike the last couple years where every one was gunning for the Booper and the team he carried - let's see if that stirs up anything  :o - there isn't a team that seems to be a clear favorite. CC and RC are off to good starts and that puts them ahead of the curve. But with almost half the conference schedule to go, last place is only 3.5 games behind first, and anyone who goes on a run has a chance to be the host team.

Carroll has been a little better of late, but it seems to me that Ripon has the best shot right now.  Although Monmouth supplied the losses to both of those 1 loss teams, so really anything could happen.

So, Just to break the basketball tension a little bit, check this out.  If you have ever spent some time in Appleton, you will get a kick out of this.

Speaking of Appleton, I was in a Barnes & Noble over the holidays and picked up a book in the humor section entitled "Worst Cities in America."  There is no ranking, just a list of crappy cities and then a list of honorable mentions.  Having been to several of the cities listed "Nampa, ID; Ankney, IA; Manchester, NH; Cranston, RI; Greely, CO and others) I found their depictions to be quite accurate.  Anyway, Appleton made the list.  You should all be proud.

Oh man, I can't believe I burned dhf right before she gets elected as a hall-of-famer!
Eh, I heard a rumor that I got a few sympathy votes from a few Midwest region HOFers who thought you were being a jerk. Maybe I should thank you. :P How else can you explain my selection? ???

Jerk?! I resemble that remark.  ;)
I would like to point out something to those voters...SHE STARTED IT!!! I WASN"T GONG TO SAY ANYTHING UNTIL SHE POINTED OUT HOW NICE THE WEATHER IS WHERE SHE LIVES!

In the (altered) words of Tommy Smothers, "Pat always liked you best."

Lol... nice. And I was just going to make a joke about how I'll always feel safe in this room... apparently I was wrong. :P Maybe it's just cause none of you guys have met me in person yet. :D :D :D :-X

That Onion article is seriously messed up.... geeeze... prostitutes? Somehow I missed they casually forgot to mention the whole fact that they were basically America's Amsterdam when they flew me up there for a Lawrence perspective student weekend back when I was in my hs years and still applying to colleges. And here I thought that orchestra concert that I went to was a norm of student activities. :o

This league is totally fascinating me right now... especially how far my beloved Lawrence has fallen. What's going on up there in Appleton? ??? It will be sorta boring if Ripon takes back the lead on the league and runs with it for a long time again... another upstart would be more fun.... Monmouth in 2007? :D

Maybe it's the paper mill smell? Seriously, minus the greyness inherant to a midwest winter and the aforementioned paper smell, I thought it was a pretty town and campus.

MMMMM,I googled it and couldnt find anything. I really find that hard to believe when the FoxValley(appleton area) was voted one of americas "BEST" places to raise a family.

Wow - I think that's the first time anyone other than an MC fan has said anything about the Scots...maybe Scottie's "Monmouth in 2007" will make a comeback...

On another note, I don't suppose any IC posters are out there to talk about the Jennings situation???  Long story short - since he only has one semester left athletically, he's quitting basketball so he can come back and play football next fall.

Best of luck to GC as they take their game to Ripon (and then Lawrence). Should be 2 fantastic games. Luck as well to Ticus on his happy string of upsets, Long on his FT efforts, Arsenault on handing the ball to the hot shooters, Chamberlain on disrupting scoring efforts (long arms!), and of course Grotberg as he heats up the 3 pt records!!  :D

I attanded a nephew's wedding last Oct in Appleton and found it to be a very nice place. Drove around and took a little tour, including visiting Lawrence U, between the wedding and the reception. The one thing that does take some getting used to is the paper mill smell in the area.

Hey I wasn't making any statements.  I've never been to Appleton, but they were dead on about Greely, CO, which is the slaughterhouse capital of the world.  Delicious.
