T2K, I thought you said LU would not win another game this season. Yet they just did. How have Grinnell head bands effected LUs performance ??

Roop:

As for the LU losing out comment--I felt the group needed me to remind them to write off LU the rest of the way; I was trying to remove some of their stress with this tight MWC race and all. I know they have historically been a little fragile and I wanted to be supportive. Especially those haters from just west of Omro.  ::)

As for headbands--My observation is that if you wear a headband or long red support socks, and play for Grinnell, you get a "2 out of 3 free foul card" and every third foul you make is called.  Once you get to 12 total fouls, including the free ones,  then you become very careful.  Until then, bang away.  :(

And this is the guy complaining about a player being a whiner?!  ???

I suppose we all have our moments T2K.

I've written and deleted a number of other comments, but since I don't want to be labled a whiner or something worse, I guess I'll just leave it at that.

I think Arsenault is second in assists right now.  He's tied with the PG from Whitworth and the other kid has played an extra game, so he gets the benefit of the doubt, but impressive nonetheless.

T2K Whine???? Never! ;D :D ;D  Amazing once GC starts to win again that the doinks and dufuses line up to trash anything associated with 'em.

Actually, Davey is still listed on the NCAA site as first with 8.6 and tied with that kid who is listed 2nd. Davey has 8 fewer assists in one less game-although on Tuesday he probably did enough to have it outright again. Im sure that G'berg's point total from Tueday will drop him down a notch...although he may score a bunch against a fairly weak IC team this Saturday.

Just checked- Davey had 7 assists so he is one assist behind with equal # of games played. Well, that obviously knocks him out of 1st team MWC contention, huh? ;D :D ;D

Had to look up Omro...not intimate with the geography of Wisconsin. Google brought up the site http://www.omro-wi.com/. WOW...I had no idea that Omro - which I had never heard of - was the Bridge to the Future. Catchy jingle too.

Of course, now I'm further confused. There's nothing 'just west of Omro' until you get to Auroraville. What do you have against these folks? Yeah, they don't have a catchy jingle or fancy schmancy web page like Omro, but they're hard working Americans!

I'm not going to sit idly by while you smear the reputation of the fine citizens of Auroraville, T2K!!! They demand satisfaction! You'll be hearing from our representative who purports to be a lawyer!

The Roop?

Any truth to the recent rumor that The New Roop Order had plans to build their world headquarters and Native American casino - Roopworld - in Auroraville until these slanderous rumors about the town were started?

We're trying to assess the potential damages done by T2K.

BTW, what are the odds on the MWC tournament being held 'just west of Omro'?

The Roop

As a 5-S cost saving measure I've re-organized the N.R.O. into a floating court so it does not require a specific headquarters building. It's headquartered wherever I am now. Regional Chapter Presidencies have not been effected by this move. However, at this time I can neither confirm nor deny any possible negotiations with the Greater Auroraville Metropolitan Indian Nation Grounds. (G.A.M.I.N.G.)

Not sure anybody wants to win the regular season championship to have hosting rights at the moment. Although if Beloit continues to play the way they did this past weekend their last loss of the season may have occurred already. Would 11-5 be good enough ?? The way things are going it will be. Get ready because this season is going to be a tough one.

In other news............. There was another exciting episode of "Air Tiberius" in the living room today as he jumped on the rat cage again. CornDog is pretty good about being taken out and held but if you stick anything in the cage he nips it in a heartbeat. Kitten feet included. Absolutely hilarious.

He doesn't really go by "Davey," does he.  I dropped the "Y" from the end of my name when I was 12 (then apparently replaced it with an "ie").   :o

Grotberg just missing???

I don't doubt you'd disagree with me, Jeffp! lol.  Remember, I'm just a WIACer.

I'm gonna say this and I'll probably get ripped for it...but, here it goes.

I believe the coaches or SIDs or whoever votes for the conference awards take any stats from any Grinnell player and handicaps their stats, including me.  Is that fair, no.  I'm not saying it is or not, but I think that they do this and that's why his stats don't look as good as they are.  Grotberg's stats are similar to Drury, for example, but I don't think Grotberg or Arseneault get the benefit of the doubt.  Like I said, is it right?  No...but I don't doubt it happens.  Should those players be punished because of the system they play in?  No.

My question is why are coaches voting based on stats to begin with?  If I'm a coach, I'm in a unique position to see these guys at least once, mostly twice a year and to study and scout them.  I'm voting for the guys who seem to be the best basketball players, not just the guys who put up numbers.

Grotberg is a first team player in just about any league.

The question isn't if he could be a first team player in any other league, but if he could be that in a different system.  The guy has good stats, I'm not debating that.

You've seen him play, haven't you, OS?  He's got decent size for a guard and better than average ballhandling.  He's obviously a good shooter and seems to do well with penetration and going strong to the basket.  He's got good court sense and quick hands.

And it even seems as if the "system" has morphed a good amount this year to play into the strengths that both Grotberg and Arsenault have of getting to the basket when the three isn't an option.

When I saw him, I expected to see a great shooter benefiting from the system, but he really seemed to me to be a solid baller with all-around skills that would translate well to another system.  I'm not sure if they stats would translate, as a top tier team would have more weapons and thus he'd get a smaller percentage of the shots, but he's a great player.

He was one of the top AAU players in Michigan his junior year before sitting out his senior year with an injury.  It's just hard for me to imagine someone would still call him a product of the system after seeing him in person.  They might; it's just hard to believe.

You're also looking at him with WIAC eyes.  The WIAC might be one league where he'd struggle to make first team.

Hoops Fan,

I think you're misinterpeting my argument.  I've never said he wasn't a good player.  I think his stats, alone, are little inflated because of the system he's in.  Is that his fault, no.  There are a lot of good players that don't make 1st team All-Conference.  In the MWC, that means the Top 5.  Is he a top 5 player in the MWC?  I'm not so sure...but he could be.

I think he would actually do well in the WIAC.  There aren't a lot of real quick guards in the league.  You are right, Grinnell has changed things up a bit and I've noticed them going into the post a little more and also not just settling for 3s.  They actually drive the basket once in awhile! lol.  :D

I can't believe that no one other than myself has figured out that Grinnell is secretly genetically engineering players to conform to their "system". What do you think their new science building is for ?? Coincidence, I think not. Conspiracy. It won't be long before their roster consists solely of Arsenault and Grotberg clones. Can't do it all in Grinnell, IA however. So they spread that Saints Rest slush fund money around the country to make it appear legitimate.

Nobody else saw this coming ?? Shame shame................
