You never actually quenched my curiosity.  You have seen him play right?  Didn't you catch a game when they were up your way?

It won't be long before their roster consists solely of Arsenault and Grotberg clones.

Murder for officials, but it would sure be fun to watch.

The Roop

How do you know they're not also cloning officials..............

Pardon my enthusiasm but I'm a bit jacked up tonight. Recruit X may have the staff of a certain MWC team come up to New Roop City (again) and watch his game tomorrow. Recruit X is the piece in the puzzle that puts Beloit in Salem in two years.

So let it be written, so let it be done.................

I can't believe that no one other than myself has figured out that Grinnell is secretly genetically engineering players to conform to their "system". What do you think their new science building is for ?? Coincidence, I think not. Conspiracy. It won't be long before their roster consists solely of Arsenault and Grotberg clones. Can't do it all in Grinnell, IA however. So they spread that Saints Rest slush fund money around the country to make it appear legitimate.

Nobody else saw this coming ?? Shame shame................

Someone needs to tell the cloning team to get Paul Nordlund back there for a DNA sample. Chamberlain needs some help. While they're at it, a bit of Steve Wood's, Steve Diekmann's, Ed Brand's and Jeff Clement's DNA might deversify the team enough to throw the NRO off the scent. Oh, and just a bit of Andris Upitis to help out Nordlund and Chamberlain.

Hmmm, I wonder if they kept those samples from the Bopper. He'd look good in Pioneer Scarlet and Black. Tommy Becker clones would work well too.

That's not asking too much is it?  ;) :D

The Roop

OMG. Last year at Grinnell I sat between JeffP and the elder Nordlund. So I could be cloned to play in "The System". It's all so clear to me now. The MWC needs to move the 3 point line out to 35 feet because when I was college age that was lay up distance for me. I'd likely dribble the ball off my foot if I had to handle it, but as far as catch and shoot goes.............. string music.

Saw them at Oshkosh and at Ripon this year.  Sorry.

I think Arsenault is second in assists right now.  He's tied with the PG from Whitworth and the other kid has played an extra game, so he gets the benefit of the doubt, but impressive nonetheless.

Do his assist stats still mysteriously rise after the game? I've heard from more than one opposing SID that questions the practice, one of whom went so far as to actually contact the NCAA office and confirm that this is not permitted, even for Grinnell.

Speaking of Grinnell conspiracies, I heard that they are now in negotiations with Duke's timekeeper.  (What a crock that was for Clemson...)

I've seen both Bryan Williams of Whitworth and David Arseneault of Grinnell play this season. Arseneault is very good, but I'll take Williams over him in a heartbeat. Just my opinion, of course.

www.jsonline.com has an article on the current Midwest Conference logjam. Who will emerge as regular season champ?

Fair enough, but since the original point was that Arseneault deserves consideration for All-MWC, I don't think that choice is necessarily a knock against Little A.

Of course neither Williams or Whitworth College are in the MWC, so... :o

OS, you see a lot more B'ball than I do so I understand MOST of your perspective, but the idea of 'pro rating" Grinnell players seems completely ludicrous to me. It is ALL basketball, Grinnell has just taken the current 33 1/3 rpm and bumped it up to 78 rpm. Outside of the sub thing, there isn't one aspect of Grinnell ball that isn't played at some point by most every team in the country. The difference is how frequently and how consistently it is done. I don't personally think, watching G'berg, that style of play would keep him from being a tremendous guard anywhere. Take, for instance, the GC vs LF game a few weeks ago where GC purposely played regular ball, albeit up tempo and still using the sub pattern for the most part. G'berg scored 29 points, outplayed LF's guards and generally left everyone wowed-including a big NC fan with little experience watching DIII ball.

Davey is still a year away from being considered elite in the country IMHO, but he is developing game by game. His stats aren't inflated-I've seen him play way more than any SID or fan from elswhere in the MWC and can say with some confidence that I've never seen anyone in this conference throw great passes as consistently as he does. He could, IMHO, still do more. He is beginning to see the wing better but still needs to get it to the open man with more consistency. Sometimes he misses the kickout when he drives and that results in blocked or missed shots. He has gotten better at both as the year progresses. If he continues to grow at this pace I'll fight like hell for his recognition next year.

That's not true.  I spoke to Grotberg last year and he didn't have an whiny almost indecipherable chipmunk voice.  He spoke quite normally.

Maybe THAT'S what T2K was complaining about with Little A!!!   :D :P :P

I'm not sure how closely coaches look at stats, but it seems to me that the one thing that could prevent Grotberg from the 1st team would be his shooting percentages.  Overall, he's only shooting 37% overall and 32% from beyond the arch.  And, on a few occassions, he's had shooting performances like 4-20 and 5-28.  At times, it would seem to me that a lot of players on Grinnell could put up 25-30 a night if given the chance to throw up 28 shots- who really knows though?
