Actually, I'm scared sh..less about the monmouth game. It is gonna take  tremendous focus to win all 3 this week (MC is at MC, BTW,SF86) and I really am more worried about MC than the other two at this point. I know the coaches are...lets all (all of GC NATION, that is) hope the team is as well.

Early,

Yes, the Beloit - Ripon game.

Beloit scored with 35 seconds left in the 2nd OT to cut it to one and called timeout.  Ref walked over to the bench and informed them it was their last.  Beloit came out in a pressing D but looked very confused and it took Ripon all of seven second to shred it for a layup.  Beloit got the ball across half court down three again and when there again appeared to be some confusion the bench called a timeout resulting in the T.

BTW, the shot that Fieck hit to send the game to the first OT was amazing.

I can't imagine anyone in the league is not concerned with their schedule, at this point.

I think GC needs to get two of the three this week with a win Saturday being mildly critical. Getting a W there would make an L on one of the other two easier to take. Taking all three would likely put them in the driver's seat to host the tournament. But that's getting a little ahead of ourselves. Gotta win game number one to win three in a row.

Actually, three in a row may be hard because they're already on a streak. They've won their last 6 conference games and last 7 overall. That's a pretty nice run. And at the risk of jinxing them, if they somehow can extend that to the next four games, they will have beaten all other league teams during the streak. I think the odds are very much against that given how tight the league has been this year, but at least they have the chance to do it.

Greek Tragedy

This year is definitely more exciting for the fans and posters with so many teams in the mix...unlike the recent years where it's been Lawrence....Carroll and whomever else.  Unfortunately, that means just one MWC team in the big dance.

Yeah, it seems like the MWC is eating itself alive right now.  Although if GC didn't have those two two-game skids right after each of the major holidays, they would be sitting pretty right now.  Perhaps in their liberal wisdom Grinnell can just ban holidays altogether.  It sure would help the basketball team out (and we all know that's their highest priority).

LU will not win another game this year. ::)

LU not winning another game this year?  I don't know about that, but I'll take a Scots victory over them.

Expect a long-winded report after tomorrow's MC/GC game...I'm sure I'll weigh in (just like last year) on the whole system and their players.

...and for anyone coming to the game or watching the webcast, remember that the men's game begins at 5:00, not 7:00.

Actually, with only two of their last six at home and both of these games against teams with better conference records, T2K might be right.  ;D

They have a losing record on the road this year, they're only 5-3 at Alex, and they've been remarkably quiet on this board this year, so maybe we can assume that not winning another game is well within their reach.  :-\  :o

Personally, I don't want to see it. I'd like to see them win those two home games!

fs13 - I'm planning on coming to tonight's game (the circus draws a crowd ;)), so I'll try to have my own report ready to post sometime tomorrow morning...that way I can compare my report to yours and jeffp can get several perspectives on the game. :D

So, do I only get "stereo" if Monmouth wins?

I was gonna go tonight, but my afternoon staff called in sick so...

Also, why the hell is Monmouth playing so well right now without Terwelp?

a LOT of heart on this team, me thinks.

I bet Maverick will drive over and take the shift for you... :D

I predict the upset today because of a couple factors:

1.) Monmouth is not very big.  A lot of guards/ball-handlers...and can finish lay-ups
2.) Terry Glasgow (sorry for the mispelling)
3.) A VERY good FT shooting team at home
4.) Again, they have some finishers

So aslong as Grinnell doesn't wear them down and coach Glasgow has a good approach to breaking the press...I like Monmouth.

Any thoughts?

I'm really interested in this game tonight...wish I could watch both Ripon and GC/MC

I went back and looked at the box score from the Dec 6th game, and I was surprised by the turnovers by MC. They committed 31 turnovers; that's a bunch. And they weren't necessarily committed by newbies.

Of course, GC had a 40% shooting night from 3, and that's damn hard to duplicate. When they have a night like that, it's hard to beat them. They made 20 of 39 in the first half of that game. Yikes. I don't think we can expect that again.

Should be a good game.

RR34 - your spelling is correct.

JeffP - I think RR34 addresses your point about MC playing without Terwelp in his 1.).  I wouldn't call him a true post player, and when you've got a lot of other guys who can run and handle the ball, a lot of the spots are interchangeable...HOWEVER, I think we're definitely a better team with him, and could've used him in our L to that school in Galesburg, and his not-so-impressive game vs. IC hurt, too.

RR34 - Obviously I'm picking the Scots at home, but a good indicator to watch for will be the loose balls and rebounds...if MC can control those, it will tell me that we're being proactive and not reactive, and maybe MC will dictate the game more than GC.
