one other thing about the GC/CC game - and Carroll fans, this is *not* a gloat. This is me with my mouth hanging open....

Carroll never led. Not once.

I never expected to see that. I expected to see a hard, fast, physical game. Check.
I expected to see lots of 3s. Uh, well, nope.
I didn't expect to see CC 52 nail so many treys. He needs to switch teams  ;)

Anyway, for the real analysis, you can wait for JeffP.

But I know both teams walked away tired!
Threes are better than twos....

Don't worry about it OS, no harm no foul.

Although if I were one of your 4 other posters, we'd run run Beloit off the court the way they played tonight. It wouldn't bother me so much but I've already paid for the next two games because this was to be their stretch run. I guess Roop Vegas officially closes it's doors tonight because there's nothing left to bet on.

All yours now Dolph.....................

Never really a close game.  Gillingham is a decent sophomore player, but not top 10 in the league.  Schmitting played very well again and I would guess had a double double (21 points).  McMullen played another great game.  He is indeed one of the best in the MWC.

Congrats to GC...Carroll is a very tough team.  I'll be interested to see the box score on that one.

LU has now opened the door for SNC and LFC.  Should be a tough one for GC tomorrow with so much on the line for SNC (I know GC has just as much on the line as well).  I love being right about LU!

Wow.

Monmouth 71, Lawrence 63  Apparently, starting Jayce Apelgren for the first time instead of Tommy Schmidt didn't help.

St. Norbs 58, Knox 49  Norbs down 29-19 at half.

Lake Forest 71, Beloit 52

Ripon 91, Illinois College 77

Question for any of those who know the NCAA tourney better than I do...if GC wins the MWC tourny are they more likely to play an IIAC school than an LU or RC becasue of proximity or is that not as much of an issue or at all in basketball? Or would it depend on if IIAC school was granted a hosting slot?

In my opinion Ripon can play with just about anyone when they have Schmitting leading a balanced offense (Schmitting had 21, five others in double-figures)

Barring a miracle the MWC is only getting one team in the NCAAs this year. Most likely the MWC winner will play at the CCIW winner in the 1st round of the regionals. However, if the NWC gets two teams in, as expected, don't be surprised if the MWC winner gets shipped west to be the opponent for either Puget Sound or George Fox. Assuming that the SCIAC doesn't get 2 in.

I can envision a scenario where the MWC champ faces the IIAC champ and then goes to Stevens point, but only if they get a bye.

You ask a good question ft06 but there is no good answer at this point in the season.

Top Ten MWC
1. Schmitting - C (gotta start with a great big man, cause he'll make the guards better....plus I taught him all he knows)
2. Maclin - have not seen
3. Drury - pg (by committee)
4. Arseneault - pg (by committee)
5. Walker - have not seen

Bench
McMullen
Hurley
Grotberg
Rogers (guess)
B. Johnson (when he's on he's tough to stop)

*my ten might be biased....I haven't seen most of these guys play.
OK, the edited version has ten names, but two are still Arseneault. I'm going to guess that you have a mental block that won't allow you to type Grotberg's name. What I don't know is whether you have him in the first five or the second.  ;)

So I realized right away that I only had nine players and edited that, but I didn't mean to freeze out Grotberg.  Take out Arsenault out of the bench team and put in John there.  I fixed in here in my post.....Thanks for the correction systemfan.

excuse me if i ramble...it's late and i've been 'out'

first things first...i actually like a couple of LU players, but boy do they whine...I would think a number of them should go to law school...being down on the floor, i heard pretty much everything that was said, and that's the worst i've seen...not saying that mc players didn't talk to the refs, and i understand that it happens every game, but not to that degree...

Anyway, this game just goes to show that MC can easily play with the top teams in the conference, when they want to, as they've beaten 3 of the top 4 teams...tough defense, timely shooting were keys.

And to those LU fans who thought they got screwed, MC still won with 2 of 3 refs being from Wisconsin....

more to follow in the morning when my head is clear...oh, and as my good buddy Snydz reminds me...it is the morning...

Grinnell game story with boxscore included.

Very good question FT06 and nice, informative response Roop!

Looks like a great game by Arseneault.  Why in the world is Carroll launching so many 3s?  Grinnell's 3-pt % was 35%...isn't that what they usually do?

I don't foresee ANY kind of situation where the MWC gets two teams in.

I wouldn't write in the NWC getting two in too soon.  Those NWC teams play a lot of non d3/out of region games, so their lofty winning percentages take a hit.  UPS, I think, is really "only" 12-3 and all three losses coming in the conference. Whitworth, I believe you meant, not George Fox, has a better shot at a Pool C bid than UPS.

The SCIAC is in the same boat as the NWC teams, they play a lot of non d3/out of region games, and I don't feel like figuring out their "actual" records.  It's a three way battle with Redlands, Occidental and Cal Lutheran all with one conference loss.  Wouldn't that be crazy if Redlands and Grinnell got matched up in a first round game?!  Now that would be fun.

But, like The Roop said, it's WAY TOO EARLY to figure that out...let's wait two weekends from now!

I really think that's frustration...from the players and coaches.  After such success the last three or four years, and then what has happened this year, even they didn't think they'd fall this hard, IMO.

Redlands v Grinnell or Puget Sound v Grinnell would be System v System either way. I would LOVE to see these matchups in the tourney!

More later if I can stay awake when the store slows down this AM...
