Is it too early to talk POY?

My vote goes to the Senior Brian Schmitting, but of course my opinion could change if he doesn't show up, on the road, against CC and LU.  I wouldn't have a problem if Drury got it and then Davey coming in at third.

Schmitting is a good player, as is Drury.  But this Davey (as in Arsenault) is a whining machine that I don't see as any better than honorable mention.   Just my opinion.  How could he be ahead of Grotberg?  I saw Isiah Thomas last weekend and he is considering him for the Knicks next year.

I don't see Lake Forest going 1-3 and Monmouth going 3-0.  Mathematically, I guess they are still alive, barely...not to mention they also have to leapfrog St. Norbert and Lawrence.  Monmouth has played 13 conference games so far and have won 5.  That doesn't make me believe they'll win 3 in 3.

I guess that's why they play the games...  I'm not betting the farm on the Scots, but you never know.

When you get right down to it Grinnell is the only team that has clinched a berth at this point.

???
Given that RC and GC are tied at this point, I think you could say both are locks. Once either Norbs or LFC loses one more, both those teams are in. I think officially, if either GC or RC wins a game, they secure a spot in the tournament.

Huh?!?!  ???
Davey is only honorable mention because he whines?! Even if I leave the whining charge unrefuted; what kind of stupid logic is that?! We're not voting on Mr. Congeniality here. Hell, even the debatable 'Grinnell stats are inflated' argument is better than 'he whines...he's only honorable mention'.

Please expand on why you think that and give us who's ahead of him. I'm holding fire for the time being, but I'm preparing to respond...

Maybe titan2000 is simply trying to maintain his 3:-1 ratio (posts to karma).

Take the absolute value of that, and you nearly get 'honorable mention' Davey's league leading assist to turnover ratio. (Double the next closest player, McMullen).

::)

(Sorry, that was a test fire...)

Yeah, I know. That's why I asked for an explanation; I wanted to be able to take the hook out of my mouth... ;)

Actually I think the top 3 are already "locks" but Grinnell is the only one that has clinched so far. It would take some very unusual circumstances for Ripon or Carroll to get knocked out.

Is your point that GC is a lock because they own a tie breaker over Norbs, so even if they both end up 10-6 there is no way Norbs can take GC's spot?

I don't know where RC stands in comparison. I was just surprised because the league site doesn't indicate the GC has clinched and RC and GC have the exact same conference record. I would have thought that either both had clinched or neither had.

The Roop

Considering the teams that GC has already beat they should have the tie breaker over anybody that could tie them. Too early in the day to go over all the twilight zone scenarios however.

   Team      Rec      Remaining Schedule
Grinnell       10-3      LF, at KC, IC
Ripon        10-3      at LU, at CC, BC
Carroll       9-4      SNC, RC, at LU
Lake Forest        7-5      IC, at GC, at MC, KC
St. Norbert       7-6      BC, at CC, LU
Lawrence       6-6      RC, at BC, at SNC, CC
   Monmouth        5-8      out of contention
   Beloit       4-9      out of contention
Illinois College       3-10      out of contention
   Knox       3-10      out of contention

GC has the tie breaker over RC obviously.
If GC and RC lose the rest of their games and end up at 10-6 and Carroll wins out with 12-4 and if LF, LU and Nubs win their games (except Carroll) it will end up....(worst case senario for RC or GC)

Carroll  12-4
LF         11-5
Grinnell 10-6
Ripon    10-6
Larry     9-7

So it's safe to say GC and RC have clinched a berth in the MWC Tourny.

Larry has a best-case-senario  of 10-6
Monmouth has a BCS of 8-8, so I don't forsee MC gettting in.

Schmitting POY

Just a clarification....
If RC and GC tie with the same record, they would be co-champions, but GC would host the tourney.  The tie-breaker for the conference championship doesn't take into account head-to-head if they only played each other once.

Scots4

Monmouth nation (as I know it) can just not believe that LFC will probably make the tournament. We all felt they were the worst team we had played all season.

P.S. Consider this bulletin board material.
Never play leapfrog with a unicorn.

scottie

First, LFC won't consider this bulletin board material because they are responsible for .0001% of the postings on this board since it's inception.  (Maybe less.)  They're still in negotiations with their internet provider, I guess.

Second, I'm not trying to start a civil war between the clans here, but... I have to question your logic on a couple of points:
a.) You beat LFC by 2.  If they are the worst team you've played, then what does that say about a "certain team I hold dear to my heart?"
b.) The rest of the league might argue that the two worst teams are Knox and IC.  Those two teams beat "certain team I hold dear to my heart" by a combined 20 points.

Now, what are you and the rest of "certain team I hold dear to my heart" going to do about it??
