So let me try to break this down.... 8)

Ripon is in for sure and a win in Saturday's game vs. Beloit means they get the 3 seed..

If Lake Forest wins they are in.

Larry needs LF to lose and they have to beat Carrol in order to get in.

My goodness! I just looked at the box score from the RC-CC game last night. What happened in the first half?! Carroll went into halftime with a very Grinnell-like 61 points! They made 70% of their shots in the half including half of their 18 treys. WOW.

Ripon looks like they shot well (55%) in the half, but they still went to the half down by 22!

I'd love to hear a report from someone who saw the game.

I agree here....please someone report if they can.

You're right.  I got one of the scores messed up.  Let me try and rest the scenarios:

Three-way tie at 10-6: Lawrence is #3, Ripon is #4 (due to a Ripon loss to Beloit)

The same thing would apply if Ripon and Lawrence tied at 10-6

Ripon and Lake Forest tied at 10-6: Ripon is #3, Lake Forest is #4 (due to a LFC loss to SNC)

Lake Forest and Lawrence tied at 10-6: LFC is #4 (due to a superior record vs GC)

Lake Forest and Lawrence tied at 9-7: LFC is #4 (due to a superior record vs GC)

So yes, Lawrence has to win and have either LFC lose or Ripon lose to get in.

So long as Ripon wins, Lawrence is out, unless Lawrence wins and LFC loses.

I was doing the math on this and you beat me to it  :D.

This is exactly how I read it as well.  The three-way tie is decided first by the 3-teams Norbert records (two wins for Ripon and Larry, and a loss for LFC) and then after LFC gets dropped because of that, Larry moves ahead by going 2-0 against Beloit.

However, if Ripon wins, Larry needs to pray for a Beloit miracle, 'cause getting swept by Grinnell will have ended their season.

Lots of scoreboard watching this weekend  :)

Yes, Ripon is in.  The conference website says as much.  LFC really needs Ripon to win.  That makes it an easy 'win and your in' situation for them.  Otherwise the dice get rolled.

OK, with all this talk of the various scenarios, let me ask this...(and I'm pretty sure I know the answer)

If you are Ripon which factor motivates you more for the game on Saturday? The opportunity to help knock Larry out of the tournament, or the opportunity to set up another shot at Carroll in a week?

Actually, that raises an interesting question, after last night's game, would Ripon fans prefer the opportunity to play GC or CC in the first round of the tournament?

Grinnell IS in, right?

;D :D ;D
You've had a real economy of words lately jeffp. I'm doing the heavy lifting out here for GC.  ;) :D 8)

The question to be answered is "Grinnell is HOST, right?"

Not necessarily.  If they win and Lawrence wins and Ripon loses, LFC is out.

All other winning scenarios have them in.

Who hosts if Carroll wins and Grinnell loses?
If it were up to me there would be a 4 point line....

Sea of Red

Carroll would host and the tie breakers go down like this (I'm pretty sure):

The two teams split.

They can't use Ripon as a tie-breaker because Ripon and Grinnell only played once and CC split w/ Ripon.

They both split with LFC

If Carroll wins (the only way they tie), both will have swept Lawrence.

Carroll swept Norbert while Grinnell got embarrassed early in the season.  That's the decider.

Interestingly enough, it's the St. Norbert Green Knights that are the deciding tie-breaker for most of the crazy scenarios that we've been talking about.  Crazy how that works out.

GrinnellFan68

back when i went to school at grinnell, our basketball team was the shame of the city...it's nice to see the cagers represent grinnell more ably than those jack rabbits Thomas and Clayton in the late 60's...those guys tore through the coeds-college and high school, but crapped themselves every big game. maybe i'm just bitter because one of them slept with my girl friend and the other slept with my sister when she came to visit. she was a virgin!

anyway, sorry for the rant, but seriously, congratulations coach arseneault, johnathan grotberg III, david arseneault IV, and assistant coach Emil (sp? that can't be right" Malinowski.

and Quance Q Quance, George W is the decider. support the troops.

This is waaay too damn complex...

All I know is I need LU to beat CC, but its in Alex which should help, and the crowd will be loud and pumped for that game.

I need RC or LFC to lose, to unfortunately Beloit or Knox.

Both Ripon and LFC's main color is red.

Thus, I HATE RED!

LarryU....would love to help you out here, but......last time BC handed to Ripon up there, was when my son was a freshman and we had Flowers, Entwistle and the boys......It was a game to remember, and the look on Gillespie's face was a sight too!  Lately though, a road trip to Ripon makes most BC fans want to "stick their face in a fan"......(I remember that quote from somewhere.....LOL)  Best of luck to you and your mathematical chances!

Based on recent form I would want LFC.  I would be interested to get a player's perspective on that.  They seem to have handled them in the most recent game.

I respectfully decline to answer that question.    ;) :D

I'll let the fates make that decision and cheer for GC against whatever team they face.

My forward looking mantra for the time being is "A minimum of 20 wins for GC in 07!"
