Hope everyone travels safely.

My last comment is what Early touched upon and why I thought the winner of RC/CC game would win the tourney....EXPERIENCE!!!!  Rarely do inexperienced teams win championships....especially teams that rely on the 3 like Grinnell does.  Playoffs are a completely different breed and while Systemfan told me that they had pressure holding on to the championship...which was mighty impressive for such a young team, it is completely different in playoffs and in NCAA games...all of which us Ripon alum have experience in.

Carroll wins easy...I don't care if I'm wrong here, but playing against the system the night before is never good.  Then you're playing the most talented team in the conference...

Congrats to Grinnell on winning a reg. season championship.  That in a lot of ways, proves way more then a two day tournament.  They will/should be favorites next year.
You may be right on the the experience factor, but we won't know until later today. It's hard to say that GC lost because of experience. They were only 2 points down at half, and then they shot horribly in the 2nd half. I would expect that a lack of experience would show throughout the game not just in the 2nd half. Could experience be a factor? Sure. But more directly, cold shooting has done in experienced and inexperienced teams.  I'd take CC in the game, but I was confident that GC would be there, so what do I know?  :-\

The Roop

After driving 14 of the last 18 hours, in 3 feet of snow, atop 2 feet of ice and up hill all the way The Roop is finally home. Sure am glad I called in that favor to book my room so I could see the championship. Silly me, I could've just stayed home am ordered it, which I'm about to do now.

Plent of Roop story telling to do but I'll save it for after the game, if they play it.

Monmouth College is without power on Sunday, February 25 forcing the 2007 Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Tournament title game to be played at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., at noon today.

An ice storm in Grinnell, Iowa knocked out power city-wide and forced the postponement of the contest on Saturday (Feb. 24) and the game was initially rescheduled to be played at Monmouth on Sunday.

MWCTV will broadcast the game live. Log-on to www.midwestconference.tv for more information.

Try Knox now...according to this site!

Your last line has waay too many syllables. ;)

When I realized last week how close Grinnell and the CCIW conf tourney host Augustana were, I seriously thought about calling in sick, flying out to Chicago Friday morning, taking in the first round of the CCIW, grabbing some Saints Rest during the day on Saturday morning, and then, and taking in the CCIW champ game if Wheaton was in it, or the MWC champ game if Wheaton was out. Can you imagine? I'd be stuck in all the crazy ice, miss my flight back to Cali from Chicago, and have to casually call in to work on Monday and suggest that I had the worst case of flu ever and was not, in fact, under 3 inches of ice in Iowa.

In a huge sweep of dramatic irony, I woke up Friday morning ridiculously sick, called in sick, and have been moping around the house all weekend. I believe I've gone through a box and a half of tissues already. I don't envision myself being better by Monday, and will probably have to call in sick again! :D

I'd rather be stuck in the ice.  :'(

We have a tie. Co-Winners of the MWC Fan Censorship Award goes to Beloit College and Grinnell College. Thank you both so much for over stepping your bounds. That's what D3 is all about isn't it ??

I'll not "Coach" anybody as to how Grinnell got nominated. Nor will I "Direct" how Beloit got nominated. But alas we have Co-Champions in the MWC. Isn't it great. Equality all around.

As someone with no connection to Grinnell, I have enjoyed watching the system and defended the style of play both on this board and elsewhere.  I have been a firm believer that the philosophy of Coach A is a great exampleof what D3 sports should be about.

That said, if someone associated with the Grinnell program took enough exception to the comments posted by Jeff P (which I have reread several times and can find nothing at all to take issue with) to actually confront him about them I hope that Grinnell suffers through nothing but pain and misery on the basketball court next season (Roop, I could wish the same for Beloit based on what it appears may have happened to you but pain and misery for Beloit almost goes wtihout saying.)

Best of luck to CC in the tournament.  Great job by their coach of overcoming some huge unexpected player losses.

See you next year.

Sorry Hoopsville but I missed your show today. After my road ordeal this weekend I simply needed a nap after watching the MWC Championship. 0 Pool Cs for the CCIW or WIAC. Ouch. Might have to put an * by this years National Champion as not all of the best made it in.

Allow me to borrow one of T2Ks dead horses............. I don't like the number of automatic bids, there are way too many of them. Personally I think every bid should be determined by Pool C criteria. How about 25 automatic bids, the D3Hoops Top 25. I don't always agree with their order but if somebody is deserving enough to get ranked by them then they should be in the tournament. I'm not going to get specific because I'm too tired at the moment but it appears to me that there were 5 upsets in conference tournaments this year. Which means 5 "deserving" teams got bumped because of the present selection criteria.

For those fans that enjoy my posts but didn't get to meet me this weekend. Here's a Roop story for you........... Axe shower gel does not work as advertised. I forgot to pack my shower bag so I had to buy everything once I got to Grinnell. I enjoy the Axe commercials so I thought I'd give it a try since I was in a college town. During the Ripon-Carroll game I excused myself from JeffP and company to get my MWC Tournament T. Why I don't know because I'll only wear it once but at least I have it. Anyway. I'm wearing my Beloit sweatshirt at the time and the hottie selling the t-shirts asks if I have a son at Beloit College. OUCH...(insert scratched record sound)... I don't even have kids let alone one that's college age. I guess The Roop isn't Pool A material any more.

To the "DJ" Family from Lake Forest. You need a bigger TV in your Suburban so if I ever have to follow/stop behind you for 5 hours again I can watch too. FYI you met The Roop and didn't know it. I wish they could have played Saturday in Grinnell, mainly because I would have been able to see it and also because Lake Forest would have won. Carroll had been wearing themselves down with the 2 hour slam dunk/trick shot contest they had while Lake Forest kept the pre-game shoot around to a pre-game shoot around.

Not that NRO-SAS had anything to do with it but I find it unusual that Carroll and Lake Forest faced each other in both the mens and womens finals. Hmmmmmm. Makes you think doesn't it.

I have to admit that I didn't and don't see anything offensive about what Jeffp said.  I hope that if there were issues, that some of it wsa just frustration over a tough loss.

Another tough draw for the MWC in the tourney.  Does anyone know anything about Augustana?  How will Carroll match up?

I'm down here in VA, so if the MWC makes it, you can see me in Salem.

Congrats to Coach Shults and Carroll College for a BIG win tonight.

BIG congrats to Coach Conger and LFC for the stunning win over Grinnell. Truly in line for COY award with a very young, well coached team.

Not sure what happened tonight. Just stunned. First time I have EVER left a GC game early in over 50 years ('cept when Mom made dad take me home after 9:00 when I was in my earlies).  The team just seemed totally unprepared for this game. You have to take treys to hit treys, poor movemnt on the court,  lack of passing...no lack of effort, but, wow. What a let down.

Only player that seemed to have his head in the game was Schmidt. Didn't score much but played incredible defense throughout. He is an extremely valuable player who has had his role changed over his 3 years here. Just a jewel of a performance coming out of a bag of coal.

Disapointed with the end of a great season and a great run, but the best team won last night. Wonder if Carroll will have the legs to play today, but guessing they will be ready.

See you all next year!

The reason this is somewhat offensive is that, if you read close, jeffp basically says the coaching was to blame for the loss.  Took two clear shots at Coach A by saying that the team was "totally unprepared" and that Coach Conger was in line for Coach of the Year when Coach A will and should get the award. I'm not saying anyone should be censored, but of course these were meant as shots at Coach Arseneault.

And how is saying Mike Schmidt was the only person with his head in the game not a shot at the other players. Mike Schmidt is a good player, but he wasn't any better than a handful of other guys who played their hearts out. Chamberlain, Arseneault, Ticus, and Roewe played well. The key to the loss, aside from lake Forest playing great, was Grotberg being sick and the effect on his group that this caused. Kids having their head in the game or Coach Arseneault not having them prepared had nothing to do with the game.

And if there was "no lack of effort," then why would you leave early and not salute the Pioneers for a regular season championship?

Again, people are entitled to any opinion they have and jeffp has been more supportive than anyone about Grinnell, but anyone who looked closely could find shots leveled at the coaches and players. Still, I frown on censorship.

Edith watched the game with me for the first time and wants to come see a game bext year. Here's hoping we're together still.

I understand why someone with the team could see what jeffp said as a shot at the team, but taken it the context of everything else he's said, it all seem to be words spoken in frustration. Let's hope that both sides understand that and move forward from that point.
