Although it would help if Carroll actually had any posters.

So I guess me coming here to ask about Carroll posters is probably not going to be answered?

So here's my first question, will Carroll have a good following at Point?

We had a MWC blog site...that lasted about two weeks.  Remember, "Haiku of the week"?   :D  Whatever happened to Sam??

Pat, you do a great job.  Well, at least a pretty darn good one!  (ha ha, joke intended...)  I just know how to push your buttons, I guess.  Sorry.  Only positive posts from Scottie from now on!

Possibly, it's only about 2 1/2 hours away.  Whitewater is about an hour away and they had a very nice sized group, including a lot of students, make the trip there last year for the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Quote from: larry_u on March 03, 2007, 10:16:37 PMEveryone says the MIAC is so tough, and maybe it is top to bottom, but the last three years, the MIAC Champion has been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by the MWC.

Who says that the MIAC is tough? It's considered a pretty average conference by most of the people who follow D3 nationally. It annually turns out rather undistinguished non-conference records, and three Final Fours in 32 years is not exactly the stuff of which power conferences are made.

The top couple of teams in the league are usually very good, but the MIAC tends to have an awful lot of dross in it in the middle and at the bottom. This year the MIAC room regulars kept saying that the league as a whole was down, but I've been unable to distinguish whether or not that's really true. Some of that could just be the GAC people projecting their own team's atypical mediocrity onto the rest of the league, or non-GAC people misinterpreting the lack of a strong Gusties squad to mean a lack of strong MIAC teams as a whole, given that GAC (along with St. Thomas) has been one of the league's two most prominent programs in recent seasons.

Congrats to Carroll on what so far has been a terrific run. It may not be over yet, either; I saw Hope twice this past weekend, and while they're very good they're definitely beatable.

I would concur that Carroll is a Cinderella already.  If they make it to Salem, they would be THE Cinderella virtually of d3 history, having beaten 4 consecutive top 10 teams on the road (3 on the opponent's floor)!

... not to mention the fact that the Pioneers would be the first team in MWC history to make it to the Final Four -- an achievement that eluded even the Braier-led Lawrence teams of recent seasons.

Any MWC team that finally breaks the Final Four barrier automatically gets fitted for a glass slipper and will show up in Salem in a pumpkin carriage.

Carroll is more likely to be a Cinderella than most teams, remember, it is a GIRL's name.

You have simply GOT to get some new material - this is a very stale joke, besides being inaccurate.  Even Archie Bunker would know that with that spelling it is (generally) a male name.

The two words "new material" are not in T2K's vocabulary. Now that we know the sectional will be held at Quandt, we can look forward to an entire week's worth of whining from him about what a bunch of seat-hoarding meanies they have at UWSP.

IMO, Carroll College is already considered a Cinderella team for these reasons:

Unlike Lawrence, who went to the Elite 8 and lost to Point, and also lost in the Sweet 16 to Point, Carroll College didn't even win the regular season title.  They had to win the conference title just to get in.

It's not really the fact that Carroll is in the Sweet 16, but how they did it.  They went on the road and beat the only CCIW team in the field, Augustana, the team that won both the CCIW regular season crown AND the conference tourney.  And considering how traditionally strong the CCIW is (though some say the CCIW was down this year), that's a pretty big accomplishment.  I realize the MIAC isn't the CCIW, but to go into a tough place like St. Thomas and beat the regular season and tourney champs is a great feat as well.

As Greg pointed out, the MIAC is hardly a strong conference in the national scheme of things.  I actually think the MWC is similar to the MIAC.  They seem to have two or three pretty solid teams and the rest of the conference isn't really that good.  They are hardly strong from top to bottom.  Lawrence and Carroll the last few years, along with this year's Grinnell and Ripon in the past is like Gustavus Adolphus and St. Thomas over in the MIAC, and St. John's being good this year.

He knows if he does that he gets another suspension from the board as regards his ax-grinding.

How about some basketball talk...
What is the game plan for Carroll?  What weaknesses are out there that they can exploit against Hope?  Anyone who has seen them any info would be appreciated.

Diehard and roop you guys are like forcing the same ends of magnets together right now...lighten up. diehard lets see if the board handle lives up and roop, well, roop rhymes with hoop, so lets continue to talk about hoops.

pat coleman,
excellent work...as if you didn't already know that?
If it were up to me there would be a 4 point line....

And still nothing on D3HOOPS. Carroll shocks 2 teams, and still not a thing for the MWC.

I wouldn't hold your breath.  Maybe, if they get to the Final Four.

Go MWC!

Just got home, smartass. We got the 7 p.m. games but the 8 p.m. games were still in progress when I left. No Miss Coll, no Wash U, no St. Thomas, no UWSP.

Thanks for putting me in my place, Pat.  It must be nice to be moderator.  Had I used such language, I'm sure I'd have a little "timeout" assessed to my posting priviledges.  Power Corrupts.   ;)

Keep going, Pios!

Perhaps you might get one anyway. I'm not much in favor of taking crap from you on a weekend in which I got about 14 hours of sleep in three days. I work my ass off and if that's not good enough for you, feel free to start your own site, or a MWC blog or something. I just am not going to take it from this room anymore.

You guys got the headline and the first photo Thursday night. When there are a hundred games in a night, the top photo is tough to come by.
Pat -

If it's any consolation, I think the persistent griping about time on the front page is tiresome as well. If I had been busting my a$$ as weekend, I'm guessing I be pissed too.

Who really cares about the front page? Why does anyone think it's important? Front page stories stay on the front page for what,  24 to 36 hours?! Big f'in deal.

There was a link to the Carroll win on the front page. Anyone who was looking at the front page knows the story. The fact someone is miffed that it wasn't the headline and or that there was no picture is infantile.

I find it eerily similar to the pro athletes who pop off because they were disrespected. What a crock. Respect is earned. This site has no bias for or against any team/league. It's illogical; this site promotes the game at the D3 level which covers hundreds of teams. Not everyone can or will be front page headline material.

So to those who are bitching about this, I say what I want to say to the pro athletes, "Get over yourself".

So can someone explain to me how Carroll is still alive?  Did Grotberg transfer last week without me noticing?

Well, they're a real solid team, with a good offense, strong guard play, senior leadership, and they're playing really well at the right time.

That's the kind of team that makes noise in any of the NCAA basketball tournaments.
Hear's hoping against Hope.  ;)

BTW, a tip of the hat to POY Drury for reaching the 1500 point milestone in the game the other night.

I'm guessing he liked the win more, but still a nice accomplishment.

I wonder if Drury will get some All American consideration given the success his  team is having in the tournament.

Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan)

I think he should and probably will.

Good for them.  Now if they can just down Hope, things would be great.
