It may be tougher to maintain a 3.60-plus GPA at those schools, however.

Tougher at those schools than WHERE Pat? There are a lot of good schools (and conferences) where its tough to maintain > a 3.6 gpa. The MWC prob has many fine academic institutions, but there are other schools/conferences that I'm sure the same can be said about.

That probably could have been said in one post but it is good information none the less.

In other news I find it interesting that no MWC teams made the womens Academic Top 25 (24) for last year. You'd think that the way the conference harps on academics so much that they would have 5 or 6 teams in there. I guess they just let anybody in now if they can ball. LOL.

Pure, unadulterated crap Roop!

I know it's crap that's why I put the LOL in there.

Yes. But not 400 other schools that the same can be said about. I mean, U. of Chicago is ranked as No. 9 among national universities. Wash U is No. 12. Grinnell is No. 14 among top liberal arts colleges, Lawrence is No. 53, Beloit No. 61. Bound to be harder -- on average -- to do that at those schools than at Tier 3 or Tier 4 schools.

If there is a favorable wind from the west, North Central will play the "Bulls" Tues 7/24 at 6:30 in Des Plaines. The Bulls are 6-3. NCC is 7-2 in Des Plaines.

On Thurs, 7/26, NCC's Deerfield squad will face Lawrence of the MWC at 9:20. Lawrence (6-0) is the only undefeated team in either conference at Deerfield. NCC is 5-1 in Deerfield.

In other action involving MWC teams in Deerfield on the 26th, Beloit plays Elmhurst at 7:00. Lake Forest is off on the 26th, but plays at 7:00 on Tues 7/24.

AndOne,

love to know how BC does vs Elmurst. Elmhurst picked up Jimmy Saris who was planning on coming to BC before the coaching change....Love to know how him and Pat Kenny go agaisnt each other. That is if Saris is playing summer ball.

With so many LU kids from Wisconsin, do a lot of them make it to Deerfield for the games?

Which of their players are regulars there? Do any graduted players participate for LU?

I'd be glad to give you a report, but chances are I won't be at Deerfield this week. Our annual family reunion is this weekend in Minnesota, and I'm either leaving Thurs PM or early Fri. I wasn't aware that Saris had originally planned to go to Beloit. I just knew he was at EC. I do know what Saris looks like, and I have not seen him in Deerfield. Maybe he plays part-time there and I just haven't been there on the nights or at the times he has played. As far as Patrick Kenny of Beloit (via Elmhurst York), he is playing pretty well, adjusting to bb at the next level. As you know, Patrick is a very steady, heady player. He is not a speed demon and is somewhat vertically challenged (like Saris), but he plays smart, shoots well, and doesn't turn the ball over much---also like Saris from what I've heard. It should be a good battle between the two---if Saris plays.

I am not sure of the LU players names as my area of concentration is the CCIW. I do know that most, if not all of LU's IL players play, as well as several from southern WI. I was also told that several of the Deerfield league players will either be starters or play significant minutes this season. From the parts of the LU games I have seen in Deerfield, I'd say the main reason they are being successful is a good mix of both inside and outside scoring. Keep in mind this is just a limited amount of observation from times of inactivity in the game I am watching that night. Unfortunately, I prob won't be at Deerfield this Thurs night when LU plays North Central.

As far as graduated players playing with the current team members---None---as graduated players are not eligible. They can form an alumni team, play with friends, etc, but once they have graduated, they can no longer play with the "official" school team.

The Roop

I just heard, through entirely made up sources, that Bill Knapton is about to be named new Beloit College President. Personal seat licenses at Flood Arena will then be sold on eBay, Strong Stadium will have a retractable dome and the baseball team will inherit Pohlmann Field after the Class A Snappers (Twins affiliate) leave town next year.

The City doesn't seem to want to offer more than a nickle towards a new facility for them, nor cooperate when they find a solution of their own. What they fail to realize is the fact that the Twins have a contract with the Snappers Organization, not the City of Beloit. If they couldn't come up with a dime to keep it affiliated with the in state Brewers, why do they think a nickle will keep any other team in town. Shame shame City of Beloit. I guess you will have to start liking the Colleges sports teams as they aren't likely to move because of disinterest and poor facilities.

Build something off campus for crying out loud and let the College use it cheap. It can be a convention facility in the off season and everybody has talked about one of those for who knows how long. A 3,500 seating capacity, not all bleachers either, would work nice for basketball and I think all parties would win.

I know the City and the College don't always appreciate each other but perhaps it's time for one party to extend an olive branch to the other.

Rant over..................

Yes citizens, this comes from NRO sources so please don't ask me to disclose anything as I won't.

Write this date down as The Roop was wrong.......................

After UW-Stevens Point lost in the Sweet 16 to Wash U. last season I posted that #1 ranked teams were 0-3 when I was in attendance. After doing some research on my own however, I've learned that I did see a 4th #1 in the Sweet 16 that won. 1979 North Park defeated Central and I was there.

So while #1s are 1-3 when I'm in the house, they have lost 3 straight.
