Yes and no. I think there actually is one at the D3 level but not many schools bother asking their recruits to sign one. Typically you just hear a school announce that so and so has committed to attend there.

Maybe Pat can clarify.

There is no such thing as an official or binding "Letter Of Intent" in Division III.

Only DI and DII schools that are members of the National Letter Of Intent Program have official/binding Letters Of Intent. There are more than 500 participating institutions. All Division I institutions, with the exception of the Service Academies, half of the Patriot League and schools in the Ivy League, are members of the program, and most fully active Division II institutions participate in the program.

No Division III institutions, NAIA schools, preparatory schools, junior colleges, or community colleges participate in the National Letter of Intent program.

Furthermore, the National Letter of Intent program is not administered by the NCAA. Rather, the National Letter of Intent program is administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA). The Southeastern Conference handles the daily administrative duties of the National Letter of Intent program on behalf of the CCA.

Let me jump in here...

There is no letter of intent in D3.

I think that the corollary at this level is a paid deposit to matriculate in the incoming class.

DIII schools typically hold off announcing a recruit until that student-athlete has BOTH paid a deposit and completed the enrollment process. This basically constitutes his/her "commitment" to a particular school, although that "commitment," unlike at a DI or DII school as I described above, is non-binding.

I didn't necessarily mean it had to be basketball, generally The Roop and his followers have interesting conversation going.

I do have some conspiracy free Beloit information but I think I'll let the school announce it themselves. It's all good news and nothing really earth shattering.

On an unrelated note............. My fishing Charter in Nassau is already full but you can still cruise with the Roop the week of Thanksgiving. And there is a basketball court board ship so maybe it's not as unrelated as I thought.

That's why I didn't post it. Too much can be verified in time. LOL.

Would like to introduce myself to everyone on this board, I'm a long time reader of the various Illinois/Wisconsin D3 boards, but always have focused more on the area high school scene so I really dont consider myself educated enough to post anything on these boards, but for the first time this summer I went out and watched the summer league up in Deerfield several times (was sick of all the yardwork/wife, etc., so I needed to get away haha), and I was very impressed with both MWC teams I watched, Lake Forest and Lawrence.  I couldnt give you any names, because Im still trying to educate myself but Id expect big things from both of these teams.  Lawrence played very well as a team and played surprisingly good defense for it being summer league.  I know Im accustumed to high school defense but their defensive intensity surprised me.  Particularly good efforts by a big burly kid inside and a bald headed point guard.  Big kid inside had numerous offensive putbacks and the point guard really controlled the offense/passed the ball well.  Lake Forest had two kids who dominated one of the weeks I was there, one was a taller point guard who probably plays more of a forward/point forward role and the other was a big strong slashing forward/center.  Both of them took over the game at various points.  The other week I saw them play just the point forward was there and he must have made 7 or 8 three pointers, and I spoke to one of the people manning the scorers table who told me that kid had at least 25 every game.  From the post above me I see that Beloit was also in the league, but I dont remember seeing them play.  Sorry I couldnt provide you with any names, but I figured since I was there Id give everyone a little summer update and maybe spark some intense MWC conversation.
Like I said I've really followed high school more than college but Im trying to find more time to devote towards both.  Maybe with the yardwork ceasing soon I can start to become more of a regular contributor on here, but for now thats all I saw out at Deerfield, again sorry that I had to leave everyone guessing with the names.

Hardly a prerequisite! lol  ;D

Welcome to the boards...hopefully we'll see some more input from you (it's always nice to see a new face) and maybe you'll get to know some names so we aren't guessing!  ??? ;) :D

Here's a good one I just heard (made up) that pertains to the conference. Grinnell is going to liquidate all it's endowments and buy every school in the MWC. Teams will still play their regular schedules but an all star team will go on to the NCAAs for the post season. The conference will be renamed the GCAC and schools will be GC-Whatever Campus. The only exception to this will be for soccer as only one team will be fielded. It will be known as GC-United. ba dump bump.

Roop:

What will Grinnell do with the remaining 75% of their endowement?

Possibly set up a series of 2 year feeder schools and technical colleges that can be taxed by boards that are not elected by the populace, thereby allowing huge tax increases without accountablility ?

Or by the local Taco Johns and teach the staff how to add 2 plus 4 so that I get 6 tacos when I drive off to Des Moines having paid for the 6 tacos.
