Systemfan86-When Tharp left he didn't leave much time for a formal search to be conducted, so that's my guess as to DePagters interim status.

I suppose that's possible, but wasn't this interim was named before Beloit and Monmouth 'lost' and then hired new coaches? I mean, how much time do they need? I can see naming him as a interim to start, but shouldn't the label have been removed by now? Just seems wierd to me.  8)

My guess is that Jo Jo will get a year to see if he really can cut it.  He's never been a head coach before, but he has slowly been moving up the ranks in the hierarchy of Tharp's assistants.  If it doesn't pan out, which is looking way ahead, Don't be suprised to see if LU can't try and lure Pat Juckem away from Coe, he alwasy was Tharp's top assistant and we all thought he was being groomed for the LU job once Tharp left, he just took an opportunity when it came along, but all his family is from the NE Wisconsin area, so its definately a possibility.

For this season, I agree with old school having 7 of 8 returning to make this team a threat, but in looking at the season previews on the conference website, Grinnell is returning even more then I thought.  I'd definately give them the early advantage, but it will be interesting to see how the assistant coaching shuffle affects them.  I know Malinowski had a big role in coaching that team, so it will be interesting to see what the fallout of that is.  Frankly I just want to see some games allready.

I think Beloit was still in the interview process after Lance Randall took himself out of consideration. They may have hired Vraney by the time Tharp left though. Glasgow stepped down this summer so LU obviously had their "interim" before then.

Beloit last in the coaches poll...how could that be. they have the new coach who will save them. seriously i sure hope they're not last. everyone knows where i stood on the coaching change but im still a Bucs fan so i am wishing them all the best.

My memory is a bit fuzzy, remind me how Beloit did in the MWC their first year under their previous coach.  How about the second year?  Which year did they win their first MWC championship under him?  How did they do last year after nine years to build a program with that top notch group of assistants that had been assembled?

Early

I do not think Beloit will finish last this year.  Vraney was assisting Ripon while I was there.  He is an intense coach.  He will make them work hard and play defense.  So if the kids pick up anything from their new coach they will be hard working, intense players and will pick up wins.

Easy Dolph. d3bbfan is on "our" side after all. No more in fighting amongst the fans of Americas Team "The Beloit College".......................

Effective tomorrow the Chapin Society will welcome The Roop to it's membership. While my money can't buy a lot, I promise to dictate where it goes. All legal under NCAA rules. An on-campus sports book and casino is also planned. Roop Vegas Baby!!!

Well Dolph lets just hope for the sake of all BC fans that the addmissions and the AD support the new coach better than they did the prior one or he will fair no better.....belive it or not I really am hoping for the best. i would love nothing better than BC becoming a power again in the conf.

So now you set up a "strawman" where if the new coach wins it is because he is receiving all the support that the old coach never got.  No chance that it could be because he turns out to be a better coach and recruiter.  This parralels your position that had the old coach been left in place things would have been great this year.  Neither can be disproven so regardless of how Vraney does you will be safe in your beliefs.

Dolph -

No offense, but let it go...

I generally defended you when you stumped for Youngblood's removal, but he's gone - or at least not the coach anymore - so what's the point in arguing on whether and why the new coach might be better?

I think d3bbfan's point was (primarily) that whatever the reason the Bucs haven't had success, the hope is that they will now. That should be a sentiment you can rally behind.  ;)

Dang,

We're two weeks from the opening games, and I can't stir anything up.

Where is DHF? (Even though I know the answer...) Where is jeffp? Heck, where's Justin?

I guess I need to stop being so diplomatic...

Let's see...

I'm going to say that this is the year that Grotberg wins his first (and not his last) POY and the D3 scoring title, and he - along with little A and Mr. Chamberlain - leads the team to their second conference title in a row. I think that they could make it through the conference season with only two losses.

There. Does that do anything for anyone?

Bueller? Bueller?  ;D  ;D :D

Systemfan,

With all due respect I had let it go until this post was made:

"Beloit last in the coaches poll...how could that be. they have the new coach who will save them. seriously i sure hope they're not last. "

If it makes you feel better I promise to never initiate a topic about the former BC coach on this board.  I will not however simply let  the past be rewritten by someone who was involved very closely with the failures at BC.

augiefan

As a Augie parent and Beloit alum familiar with Cecil Youngblood's tenure as an assistant at Augustana, it was no surprise that Cecil was a failure as a head coach at Beloit. Cecil was a pleasant guy, who was well liked at AC but almost uniformly acknowledged to be a below average assistant coach. When he got the head job at Beloit most of us were happy for him but seriously doubted he would succeed, particularly since Knapton left the cupboard equally bare (similar to Vraney's fate), when poor Cecil took over.

BC will probably finish last this year. If Horton is out, it's a near certainthy. Nevertheless, two seasons from now Vraney should have the Buc program competitive again. Contending for the MWC playoffs will probably take more than 2 years, but in this case any coaching change is an inprovement.

Systemfan,

u dont even know me. i know the CY and some of the coaches and liked them. i had no involvement other than a BC fan. I have been a BC fan since back in the Knapton days of the early '80's and through out the 90's. so my "involment" was as a friend and a fan. The things i know or don't only came from the coaches so with out question I am biased. I will be at the games like I have been for yrs and all I want now is for BC's success.

so "Dolph", who ever you are...truce ok. I liked Youngblood as a coach and as a person and that wont change. i also believe he got no help in getting kids in....all that being said I really do wish the Vraney good luck based on what those that know him say i know he will get the most out of what he has to work with.

Perhaps the Lawrence braintrust is waiting for him to stop calling himself "Jo Jo" before removing the interim tag. ;) :D

C'mon, Roop. With no April, no jeffp, and no JUSTIN!!!!  ;), the ongoing Cecil Youngblood food fight between Dolph and d3bbfan is easily the most exciting item of controversy this room's got left. ;)

If Horton is out..........................

That becomes the biggest question at the moment. Not sure if this will stir up any controversy or not but I've heard through the grapevine that he's been out for the season before, only to play again in a day or two. While it's not an exact quote that's basically how it was explained to me. I believe it would suffice to say that something can be read into that statement.

Regardless of that situation it is very likely that the bench got a little shorter as Nate Tate will probably not play this year. The knee got worse as football season went on. That's unfortunate as I was hoping he would take over Nick Hendrys role this year.

Anybody go to the scrimmage last night that can confirm this ??
