How everyone thinks doesn't matter................... Roop Vegas says take Grinnell -15 and go large. The Eclaires aren't that good this year.

How does everyone think Grinnell will do in its opener against UW-Eau Claire? Should be a good opening test.

UWEC hasnt been strong in the WIAC of late, but WIAC programs as a whole are generarlly going to have a little more depth, size and athleticism accross the bard than MWC and other regional opponents

A lot depends on how well EC will be prepared for the "system."  Grinnell's best bet is to pressure the EC guards as much as they can, causing turnovers.  Once EC gets it into the post, they have some players who finish well (Beyer, Hoelzel, Probst).

The Roop

Have you not seen a "system" game ?? Everybody gets into the post. Give up the lay up in exchange for a 3, etc.

Good point, The Roop...

buf, you can be certain that the guards will be pressured. Everybody will be pressured. The bigs will likely need to help out in gettting the ball down the court. If UWEC tries to only use the guards, it could be a problem.

Congrats to TTMG on making D3Hoops 3rd team All American. Thanks to Pat and his gang for the recognition.

Interesting that all five games involving MWC teams on Friday are on the road. IC is going to be in my neighborhood playing Capital, but I already have plans for the day.

The teams that have typically done the best against good system squads are the ones who sit their bigs and go with smaller, faster line-ups with better ball handling.

Greek Tragedy

1.)  Eau Claire isn't that good, even if they are a WIAC team.

2.)  They have some turnover, and their best guard last year, Jarod Bardon, isn't on the team.

3.)  With the turnover of players, I think playing Grinnell is the worst thing that can happen for Eau Claire.  Playing Grinnell, everyone really needs to be on the same page and playing them right out of the gate isn't going to help "getting to know each other"...

Grinnell by double-digits.

If Horton is out..........................

That becomes the biggest question at the moment. Not sure if this will stir up any controversy or not but I've heard through the grapevine that he's been out for the season before, only to play again in a day or two. While it's not an exact quote that's basically how it was explained to me. I believe it would suffice to say that something can be read into that statement.

Regardless of that situation it is very likely that the bench got a little shorter as Nate Tate will probably not play this year. The knee got worse as football season went on. That's unfortunate as I was hoping he would take over Nick Hendrys role this year.

Anybody go to the scrimmage last night that can confirm this ??

Roop

who is the northern VP for the NRO?  I am interested.

Yes, I saw them play on ESPN a couple years ago.  What I should have said is that the key to the game will most likely be EC's ability to bring the ball up the court.  Their starting guard (Ryan) will now be in his 3rd year as a starter, but after him is a real question mark.  EC does have a lot of guards on the roster.  I guess we will see how they react to the "System" this coming Friday.

There is no actual VP, rather there are regional chapter presidents.

Buf-Probably not the best system game to see as neither team was very good that year. 90% of the battle is beating their press though. Should be interesting to see if the system changes at all this year with the additions to the coaching staff.

ESPN caught them in an off year.  What you see opening night, will not even remotely resemble the travesty that the "world" saw in the ESPN game.

So....the season is upon us.  Here lies the big question.  Who wants to run the pickem this year...if noone else volunteers to do it, I will, but if someone else wants the job, say so now.

Also, I assume people will want to wait until conference games to pick, but we can have a pre-conference season game warm up if people would like...just let me know.

For $hits and giggles i've posted the weekend's games in the pickem section.

By saying that, you volunteered yourself! lol.  ;)

I'll play the conference schedule, but skip the preconference schedule!  (Right, Sager?) ??? ;D

Monmouth could be even more shorthanded in the regular season opener against Central Missouri State. Senior Andy Moore has not been practicing due to a reoccurence of a heart issue that led to a surgery about 2 months ago. Senior Wes Wrage and two freshmen, Fletcher Morgan and Alex Tanney, all missed practice today with knee/ankle issues.
