The Roop

I thought Wimmer "manned up" a lot last year and was very assertive on the defensive end. Not as dominant as he could be but definitely was involved as freshman. However, he's back to where he started last year.

Maybe somebody will conjure up a rebounding spell from middle earth to help him get more rebounds than only the ones that hit him in the face. They give you 5 fouls so don't be afraid to use 4 of them.

THE Roop,

Am I that much in the NRO now that you copy my picks even down to the color?

It could be argued that I started the color thing last year. However, I'm copying your picks (coincidently) because I can't see Ripon starting 0-3 especially when they are at home tomorrow.

Special thanks to gobucs for not copying me all the time this year. You now have a 2 game lead over The Roop.

Thought I'd post a quick 'atta boy' for GC's Chamberlain. He's off to a great start and that's a good thing for Grinnell.

I can't imagine he can keep up the pace, but how about 10 blocks in the first two conference games? Add 18 rebounds along with 6 blocks for newbie Knisley and GC appears to have an inside presence. Who knew?

So far so good for GC. They should be able to get past Monmouth tonight, and I don't see any issues with the rest of their non-conference games, so they can be ready to comeback in January and run the gauntlet of the conference season. GC v Larry in Appleton is early and should be interesting.

BTW, who set up GC's travel schedule? Don't they normally get Larry and Ripon in the same trip? They play at BC less than 24 hours after playing in Appleton. Yikes. Oh, they don't play at Ripon this year, that must be it. And now that I think about it, anyone who plays at GC on a Friday night has a similar trip, don't they.

Nevermind...  ;)

Sounds to me like somebody is making excuses for losing @Beloit already  ;D

bucs r bust

Just arrived home from the BC vs. CC game tonight.  It was just like I expected with Carroll winning pretty easy.  77-64.  Beloit got within 3 early at 17-20 in the first half but Carroll goes on a 14-3 run to end the half.  Horton was pretty decent tonight as expected with 18 points but he got 2 early fouls which kept him out for a while.  Then Vraney realized that there was really nothing to lose by having him on the floor with fouls.  Bysted, Isham, and Wimmer did a better job tonight and if they can build on tonight they might start to compete a little bit.  However, too many turnovers and bad rebounding at times, as usual, kill the Bucs.  I really hope they can muster up a win or two before it's all said and done.  There's nothing better than playing spoiler down the stretch (except making the tournament of course).
Carroll's starters are pretty good but their bench (which got to play quite a bit) is not what it has been.  Schultz does a great job using his timeouts to give his starters a breather.  On offense they like to fire three's and when you come out on them they are really good at getting it inside for some easy points.  Mueller was very good tonight inside and out.  Carroll will make some noise in the conference but if other teams get into their bench, they may lose some games if it's close at the end.

From the GC web site http://www.grinnell.edu/athletics/mbasketball/

A reasonably handy win by the Pioneers. Never trailed, which is good. Long and Chamberlain seemed to have stepped up their game this year which is very good for Grinnell. It has to be harder to play this team when you have 3 or 4 players to concern yourself with.

Congrats to the team on a solid start in the conference. Enjoy the trip to California. Anyone want to guess what the score of the GC-Cal Tech game is going to be? Wonder what the average SAT scores of the combined teams would be.  :D

Just checked the link on the RC-StN game...

Sorry, but as a Grinnell fan, I had to snicker when the headline of the article reads "Red Hawks Lose Barn-Burner Against St. Norbert" and then I read that it was a 61-59 game.

That's a barn burner half, not a barn burner game...

:D ;)
