I think you can be considered successful without making the conference tournament. LU certainly had a nice team last year but they didn't win the close ones, sans Bopper, like they did in 05-06. With a different planetary alignment that undefeated team probably loses at least three. @Ripon, @Carroll, @Beloit were improbable come back wins. When you look at it in that context last years "fall off" really isn't that big of deal.

I don't think that you can consider a season much of a success if you don't make the conference tournament. If your team isn't one of the top 4 teams in an MWC conference that doesn't have much depth, there isn't much to be pleased with. And I'm sure if you asked the coaches and players, LU's inability to make the conference tourny last year was a big deal.

I don't think you're giving the conference the "props" it deserves. It wasn't that long ago when Monmouth, Ripon and Beloit ruled the day and everybody else was an also ran. So yes, you can be a good team these days and not make the conference tournament. I'm sure that LU was disappointed last year but that doesn't make them a bad team.

Considering the previous seasons, yeah, not making the conference tourney would be a big disappointment FOR LAWRENCE.  However, if a team like Beloit doesn't make the conference tourney but improves drastically, then not making the conference tourney would NOT necessarily be a disappointment.

LU had 7 conference losses; 2 to first place Grinnell (13-3), 2 to 2nd place Carroll (12-4), 1 to 3rd place Ripon (11-5), 1 to 4th place Lake Forest (10-6) and one to 7th place Monmouth (7-9).  If you lose to teams that place 1-4, those are tough, but I guess the loss to Monmouth would be the only "upset" and EVERY CONFERENCE has upsets.  Based on the records, it was a very balance conference last year.  I mean the 1st 7 places each had one more loss than the team before it; 3 losses, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 losses.

Amazingly enough, there is not an ice storm, blizzard, thunderstorm, etc..... I had to pinch myself- this can't be Iowa in Feb!

That's because I'm not there. The last two years I've seen the blizzard of the century and the ice storm of the century. If I visit Grinnell in the summer I'm sure it will mean a tornado. When exactly is it safe for me to go there ??

I suppose this is one of those string theory equations that only physicists can answer. 11 dimensions, fine. All I know is that Lisa Randall (Harvard) is my favorite physicist. Not because she is smart, which she is, but she is friggin HOT in any dimension.

As bad Lawrence's announcers have been the last few years, I would still prefer they had them for the MWCTV broadcasts
