Lets wait until GC wins out to speculate.
Well, if we wait until they win out, then we won't have to speculate, will we?

At that point, we'll know since the league will tell us.

;) :D

OK, just to get things going and interesting, how do people see the first team All Conference shaping up?

Here is my take after looking at some numbers and how teams have done:

Kroeger (POY)
Hurley
Ladwig
Horton
Grotberg

Kroeger and Ladwig are the two easiest to put on the team on my opinion.  I think Hurley and Horton, both leaders in both scoring and rebounding, have an edge over others that are strong in both such as Terwelp, Rees, and Walker.   All three probably make second team.    St. Norbs so well balanced it is hard to see one of their players making first team.   I do not think Arsenault makes first team this year.   Less strong performance than last year and not healthy unfortunately as well.   Long from Grinnell warrants some props too, probably second or third team.  It is hard to translate the numbers.   I think a lot has to do with how well the team does and they did not do as well this year.   I think a couple of the Norb kids get recognition as well as one or two more LU players like Page or Kadison.(HM)

All just my opinion, but I will bet a nickel I have at least 4 out of 5 correct.
I am probably least sure about Horton given the record of the team, but he is number one in rebounds and among the leaders in scoring.

Nut,

After looking closer, I now like Long a little better than Grotberg. Sure, Grotberg scores six more points per game, but he also takes eight more shots per game. Long appears to be a better shooter inside and outside the arc and beats Grotberg in the other categories (rebounds, assists and steals).

I tackled this subject a while ago and couldn't come up with a lock for the first team after Kroeger and Ladwig. You probably do have four correct, though. Grotberg probably makes it on reputation alone, and it would be impossible to keep both Andy H.'s off, right?

schwanman - I noticed from last night's box score that Eric Grant wasn't in there.  Any idea what happened with him?  Injury from Saturday's IC game?

Yeah, we noticed that, too, but we don't have the inside scoop.

Looks like Gruber (7 assists, 3 turnovers) did a nice job handling the ball in Grant's place, especially for a freshman.

Really, the Monmouth version of the box score looks pretty darn good in a lot of areas. If you'd told me we'd shoot 39-of-62, 10-of-15 and 25-of-30 on FGs, threes and FTs, respectively, and had only four more turnovers than Grinnell, I might have guaranteed a win.

Bobby Long for President!

Nice to see Chamberlain back.

Must have played "real" basketball in OT.  13 total points?  Wow.

C'mon federal refund...............

You're buying a car for $600?

He said refund, not stimulus check.  I hear that the Notorious refund will be $3,264,362.  [His CPA is amazing (also indicted).] ;D

Greek Tragedy

oh yeah!  My bad...but maybe his REFUND is only $600.  ??? ::) :D

As long as my CPA is indicted and not me, I'll take a refund that is 100 times what I make. In the mean time I need 600 people to loan me $2 each or one person to loan me $1200; or any combination in between. Get a couple years out of it then buy a different one. I'm not a big fan of having a car payment so I question whether I will ever buy new again. You get tired of the vehicle after 2 years anyway but you're stuck with it, and the payments, because you're still upside down on the financing.

But in keeping with Toms $600 car theme I can easily see myself taking my stimulus check and buying something for that amount as a get me by. Then put the Blazer I'm about to get in the paper for $3500. I don't know if I could get that much for it but I think it would fetch $2500 without too much trouble. Because after all it is all about the Benjamins. At the moment it's my bosses sisters extra vehicle and she just wants to get rid of it, hence the $1200 price.

So I can turn a profit here. I'm also further benefiting from my recent break down as my boss is picking me up for work. Since he goes in 2 hours before I normally do I'm looking at some serious over time on next weeks check. When times get tough the notorious get going. When it rains go into the umbrella business.

I won the pickem two years ago and failed miserably last year.  Who was the winner last year?  does anyone know?

I believe it was HoopsFan. By the way, the only reason you won pickem two years ago is because you are biased and LU went undefeated. LOL.

I will be the first to admit that my pick-em skills have risen, fallen and risen with LU.   That is why I won two years ago, stunk last year, and am back in the hunt this year.

Schwannman, I think you make a very good point regarding Long.   I do think you do have to look at shooting percentages.  That is why I hold Kroeger in higher regard than some of the other guards like Gillispe and Grotberg.   I do believe that Chamberlin's return creates a very interesting twist to the MWC tourney assuming they make the field.   No way does Mr. Page from LU score 48 if he plays a good chunk of the game.   He really does add something to their mix.

Either way, I am looking forward to the tourney.......and sorry I will not be so nice as to hope for an LU upset so two teams might get in.  I think the best thing for the continued improvement in the MWC reputation is another deep run in the NCAA.   Our best chance for that in my opinion is home games for LU.

Lastly, LU/Norbs game tonight should be a good one.

ps:  what do I get when I get to 200 posts?????any valuable gift certificates or anything?  a new car I could give to notorius roop?

200 posts = you can give out karma, or smite if you like.

Here's a thought................ What if Mr. Page takes 16 3s against anybody else and shoots 100%, that's still 48 points by my math. Sure "The System" skews the numbers a bit but over the course of the season you are either a good player or you're not. I'd say he's pretty good.

PS. I'll take a silver Lexus but not if Kristiana Loken is driving.

wow.....new regional rankings out.  Augie with a loss at 17-5 in region stays ahead of LU who is 16-2.   I guess opponents winning % is a big deal.  LU, assuming they win out, will play 4 straight games against winning teams(STN, Carroll and then the two tourney games)  Will that be enough to go around Augie or will they have to lose a game?   The CCIW has the same 4 game format for a tourney.  I think they play Ill. Wesl. next who also has a winning record.    I guess the double OT loss to Carroll is haunting.
