Carroll wins by 2 in a very close game the whole way.  Houk(?) has an awesome game.

LU wins 59-58.

Hurley plays great game.  St. Norbs does a good job of making everyone look bad(that is a compliment).  Kreoeger misses 3s badly until he needs one and hits it from 5 ft beyond the arc for the win.

There was some scoring confusion at the end of the game.  Announcers, and me, thought Norbs was up 3, but apparently up 2 before Kroeger's 3.
Video was cutting out some.

Go vikes.

Well a win is a win...

Little close for my comfort, but i'm 2-2

We just got to take care of business tomorrow.

Augie only wins by one in ot on their home floor as well.  Should be interesting games between Augie and Ill Wes and LU and CC tomorrow...could make for some interesting seeding issues.

When it comes to seeding, do you think it's possible that the winner of  LU/CC  might host their next game?

How many times do I have to say it people. Carroll gets the Pool A and a bye. LU travels to Occidental and the winner goes on to Carroll. Old School still doesn't believe me even though I sat with him for the LU-Nubs game and re-explained this FACT twice...............

I caught wc2viking a bit off guard as I wasn't wearing my typical Beloit gear for the first game. No harm no foul.

Despite my trips to Grinnell the past couple years Coach A has never had the pleasure of meeting The Roop. Now he has............ He's obviously a fan, as I'm certain you all are. In our two lengthy conversations I illustrated and defined the problems with "The System" so it is likely that Grinnell will be running the Princeton Offense next year, per my advice. You heard it here first.

A 2 point and 1 point game tonight. Final possessions determined both. I doubt it can live up to that tomorrow.

Carroll 124 Grinnell 122. A barn burner and a shame that one team had to lose. The difference in the game was the physical rebounding advantage Carroll had over Grinnell. The two most outstanding players of the game were two of the smallest- John Hoch of Carroll and Bobby Long of Grinnell. They scored 34 and 27 pts. respectively. They were strong with the ball, created for others and scored inside and outside. They both played their hearts out and came up big for their teams. It was a hard fought game and its pace may take something out of Carroll in their championship game against Lawrence. Sorry to see Grinnell"s season over. Still wonder what they might have accomplished without the injury to Keith Chamberrlain. If he had been healthy for conference play, Grinnell might have won the conference and hosted the tournament.

Greek Tragedy

Two very entertaining games at The Alex tonight.

Carroll tops Grinnell 124-122.  The game was back and forth for most of the game.  Thought Carroll would lose after Ladwig fouls out with just under 5 minutes to go, but Hoch comes up big, especially at the line.  He was their main man dribbling out of trouble and getting to the line.  Aside from Hoch's 34 and 13 asts, it was a balanced attack for Carroll with 7 players in double-figures.  I'm still not sure why Mueller is launching 3s.  As said above, Carroll really outmuscled Grinnell on the boards.

Grotberg had a "what seemed like a" quiet 36 while Bobby Long came up big as well, with 27.  I thought Little Dave had one of his worst games, forcing a lot of shots and ending up going just 5-15, though he did hit a big 3-pter late in the 2nd half.  Chamberlain played 16 minutes but I felt he really needed to be out there more.  He was the only inside threat, offensively and defensively for Grinnell.

Little Dave hits a huge three to cut it to 2 with 30 or so seconds left.  Carroll hits one of two FTs and then Grinnell surprises everyone and goes inside to Chamberlain to tie it.  Good defense by Grinnell forces a bad shot but no boxing-out results in an easy put back for Carroll with 4 seconds to go.  A long three by Little Dave doesn't fall, but the ref waved off the shot anyway.

Lawrence sneaks by St. Norbert 59-58 in another battle that goes to the end.  Hurley was unstoppable going for 20 and 10 boards, while Kroeger hits only ONE 3-pter but it's the biggest of the game.  Jandron and Dowden are the only Green Knights in double figures at 17 and 10, respectively.

Again, it came down to the end with Bieniasz hitting a big three to put the visitors up one.  St. Norb's could've iced the game but on their next possession they only hit one of two FTs.  Kroeger hits his only 3 of the game to put Lawrence up 1 with 11 seconds to go.  Jandron decides he'll launch from long range and LU rebounds, hits one of two (the miss on the 2nd shot was intentional) and game over.

Not real sure about the play calling or execution on St. Norb's last possession. You don't need a three, so work the ball inside, drive the lane and if you miss the shot, hope for a foul.  Settling for a long jump shot from 3 isn't gonna produce much unless you hit it...

If LU wins, they could host a 4-team 1st and 2nd round "regional".  If Carroll wins, I think they'll play a Wednesday 1st round game and then travel to Whitewater (if they win the WIAC) or Augustana (if they win CCIW) on Saturday.
