Thanks for the info FK but wouldn't there be two games the next night as well ?? The plot thickens................. My money says it will eventually involve the Mayan calendar or the DaVinci code.

The next day is a Saturday, so you can play a 1 p.m. game where you couldn't on a Friday.

We have heard about all of the recruits for LU, KC, LFC and some from CC, Ripon. Do we have any updates on the recruits STN, MC, GC and IC? Does STN have anyone to replace Bieniasz? Can Grinnell continue its recent "success" without Keith Chamberlain and Schmidt from the outside? Monmouth lost their first team all conference Joe Terwelp...do they have anyone to step up in his absence? IC lost Womble who was always a solid performer. Any updates?

Along those lines, the only school who we have really heard all about in terms of recruiting is LU, the rest of the schools you mentioned we seem to have only partial information for, LFC with 2 recruits, GC with one or 2 recruits, are these all these schools have, or is it just one of those situations where the only real consistent posters we have on this board are from LU and GC.

Personally, I'd have to imagine that all these other schools have quite a few more recruits than are being mentioned here, but because this board doesn't have the resources and sources of a board like the CCIW we are operating with limited information.  Only my opinion of course

Beloit has 9 coming in but they were all bench players on their respective high school J.V. teams. Bucs won't do anything this year, probably won't even win a game. So my advice is to just look past them on your schedule.

Having said that. A.D. Kim Chandler is leaving Beloit for Macalester College next month. Beloit will still have a full time A.D. (good thinking) and the search has begun. I nominate me. Cosmetic improvements are nice but what most people care about is buying players, point shaving, running a sports book and playing off campus to attract alcohol sales. I can do all that.

Sure I'll keep it D3 (on paper)  ;) but RoopVegas will bring in more revenue than begging for money from alums.

Only 1 or 2 recruits for Grinnell? Unless these players have some size, I don't see how they will be able to compete without a big like Mr. Chamberlain. I wonder what this lack of recruiting for Grinnell has come from.

Greek Tragedy

Anyone know what Grinnell's record was without Chamberlain in the lineup?

With Chamberlain Pre-Injury:        8-1
Without Chamberlain:                  5-6
With Chamberlain after recovery:   3-1

Chamberlain wasn't completely healthy from what I understand in the last four games after his recovery. However, I believe his presence in the back of Grinnell's press may have been beneficial, considering the lack of experience from their freshman bigs.

Does anyone think it is possible that Grinnell's "Big 3" can carry the load next year? Will a year in the MWC be enough for their now sophomore bigs to contribute?

System Error: Great name.

To directly answer your question, Grinnell can and will be very compeititive without Chamerblin.  Their top three guards are all among the top 10 in the conference.  Equally important, two of them can shoot the 3 very well.   What I have noticed about GC over the years is they need to have shooters.  The team 4 years ago was bad bad bad because no one could shoot.   This group can shoot and will win their share of games.

Their system does work a lot better when they have a big guy to reduce the layups.  Chamberlin made them very good his junior year.  Nordlund played the role well before he was hurt as well.

I look for GC to be in the top 4, too much talent not to be........and this conference is still not terribly deep unless things change.   Last thing I will say is that I have always noticed that it is a benefit to have your best players be seniors.   You see it all the time.  GC will benefit from their strong senior class.

The "without Chamberlain" stat is a little deceiving as they were also without Arseneau during part of that stretch. You can make adjustments when you lose a big man, especially with "The System", but when you lose your point guard it's kinda hard to fake it.

Probably looking at the same 4 in the tournament again, although the order might change a little. I'm thinking LU, St. Norbert, Carroll and Grinnell.

I decided to answer one of my own questions I posted earlier about Grinnell's recruting. It looks like they do have more than one or two players. Officially, on their website, they seem to have six incoming freshman. While they do have two 6-4's, they don't seem to have anyone to directly replace Chamberlain.

MIDWEST CONFERENCE HISTORY BOOK: NO ORDINARY CONFERENCE

George Drake, a former Midwest Conference student-athlete and 1956 Grinnell College graduate, has culminated a project he calls "a labor of love" with the completion of the 100-page soft cover book No Ordinary Conference, an introspective history of the Midwest Conference. The Midwest Conference office is making the book available to the general public at a discounted price via the Order Form linked below for a limited time only (a small number of copies may be available at full price after the ship date). Orders are expected to ship in September.

Drake, who remains a professor at his alma mater, teamed with 2001 Grinnell grad John Aerni to provide a unique look at the league's history through interviews with Midwest Conference student-athletes and unprecedented access to league minutes.

No Ordinary Conference includes the accounts of numerous student-athletes and chronicles over 80 years of history from the league's formation through the men's and women's conference unification and beyond. No Ordinary Conference also features a 34-page photo gallery of some of the conference's all-time great athletes, coaches and administrators.

I would be surprised if the Carroll @ North Park game time for November 22 is correct. Carroll has it listed as a 7 pm tipoff, but NPU home games are always 7:30 starts.
