Like Beloit, Lawrence is looking for a new AD. Bob Beeman is off to Hamline. Is this a MWC to MIAC pipeline now?

System Error

Roop,
It is possible for you to AD both Beloit and Lawrence?
If anyone could do it......

The Roop

I could but the first problem would be that I'd have 2 book making operations going in the same conference. That never works well because you end up competing against yourself. I also feel that LU is too established a program at this point. When success is expected and it doesn't come people ask questions.

I appreciate your vote of confidence however. Beloit is just a better fit right now. They're rebuilding and figure to be on the rise the next couple years. I think everybody knows that so when they start pulling upsets it won't raise any suspicion. Not like it would if LU dropped a few they shouldn't have. That and I'd get to move home again.

Okay, I understand. You do make some valid points. I was just thinking that if LU did in fact drop some games, then another team in the conference could actually win the conference for once (I do realize Grinnell won two years ago, but 4 out of 5 is pretty good). I hear that some people get tired of "LU, LU, LU, LU" chants until the end of March. However, maybe thats just me.

Here is for me:

Hoping for the field over Lawrence!

Disclaimer: I enjoy and have no problem with Lawrence basketball. I like JoJo D. (Will not attempt spelling his last name). I love Kroeger, Kadison and the rest of the crew. I just would like to see some colors other than the Blue and White in the tournament.

Perhaps Roop can list the 9 "JV" players coming into the BC program. Any help will be welcome.

The Roop

Go back to page 581 and you will see the list. LarryU later gave some info on the Minnesota kids and Sager had some comments on of the IL kids.

The Roop,

was doing a little google research. Looks like the kid for Tx. Deandre Crayton.. is headed to somewhere else, Pfeiffer U in NC. this is from TexasHoops.com

The Roop

A. people change their minds or B. The TexasHoops info is outdated.

I don't think it will make a difference either way but my guess is that the TexasHoops info is outdated. The NRO source that gave me the list hasn't mentioned a thing about anyone changing their mind and going elsewhere.

RECRUITING INFORMATION

I hope this hasn't already been reported---I didn't have the time to page back

I have confirmed that St. Norbert has picked up 5'10" point guard Phil Albrecht out of Batavia, Il HS.

Phil was the floor general of a very good Batavia team which featured a Northwestern Univ.  recruit, and which was ranked about 10th in the state most of the year. Phil's strengths are that he sees the floor well, takes care of the ball, makes good decisions, is an adept passer, and is a good shooter when the opportunity presents itself. Among his statistics are a scoring average of 10.3 ppg, 85 percent FT shooting, 40 percent 3 point shooting, and about twice as many assists as TOs.

He was initially pursued by up to about 10 schools. I believe this number was eventually pared to 5, the most frequently mentioned being---St. Marys and St. Johns in MN, St. Josephs in IN, North Central, IL, & St. Norbert with North Central and St. Norbert emerging as the 2 favorites/finalists. Phil's parents, especially his mom, seemed to favor North Central a bit. At one point, I know for a fact Mrs. Albrecht told North Central something very close to "I really respect NCC and know its a great  school, and I don't relish packing up Phil's brothers and sisters (3, I think) and hauling them all the way up to Wisconsin to be able to see Phil play."
However, Phil's application to North Central was denied.

This is perplexing to me. Even though the CCIW in general has very high academic standards, and is highly thought of on the academic world, I had thought that North Central and St. Norbert were on pretty equal ground academically. Accordingly, its surprising he was denied by North Central, but admitted to STN. Anybody know what St N's requirements are. Have you heard of players being denied at other conference or regional schools and still being admitted to STN?

Anyway, they are getting a good player and a good kid. More so than on the court, Phil's biggest challenge may be in the classroom as far as maintaining his eligibility. I sense the STN coaches will have to keep a close eye on his academic progress for him to be successful in maintaining his eligibility. Good luck to Phil!

Call me old fashioned, but I can't believe you have the audacity to make a statement like "Phil's biggest challenge may be in the classroom as far as maintaining his eligibility"

I think you should retire your account for that comment.

Also, don't patronize the mental capacity of the readers of this boards by trying to pose questions innocently in regard to the academic standards of the two schools. Come right out and say what you are thinking.

After your next trip digging through the trash of a high school basketball players home, peering through his window or talking to his mom, do me a favor and report the results on the CCIW board.

Fightin---

Well, the "Fightin" portion of your screen name is certainly fitting. Are you usually in the business of trying to interpret the meaning of other people's questions when you truly have no idea of what the other person meant? Anyone who knows me on here and otherwise will tell you I don't have any trouble saying exactly what I'm thinking.

1. If I am confident in his ability on the court, but not confident of his ability in the classroom, why would I say otherwise. I said exactly what I meant which is that given the fact he was denied by at least one school, he may struggle academically. The evidence of this fact is right in front of your face---its the denial of admission. Additionally, that is NOT to say he can't do it. But, basketball MAY come more naturally than academics.

2. Where do you get off with the statement about posing "questions innocently in regard to the academic standards." I DON'T know what STN's requirements are. Thats why I came right out and asked if anyone else did. I always assumed the standards of the two involved schools were pretty much in line with each other. MANY people I've spoken with have been surprised he would be denied at one of the two schools and yet be admitted the the other.

3. Its not a matter of digging through trash or peeping through windows. Its a matter of keeping your eyes and ears open, listening, and asking pertinent questions rather than just spouting off because you don't like either what someone else has to say and/or how they say it. Perhaps you ought to try it---it might get you facts rather than the unsubstantiated opinions you appear full of.

I didn't read your response beyond...

"If I am confident in his ability on the court, but not confident of his ability in the classroom, why would I say otherwise."

My exact point is that you shouldn't comment on his classroom abilities unless you are A. His parents or B. Incredibly close to the situation or C. One of his HS teacher and if you were either A, B or C I would think you would have more respect for the kid than to try and throw him under the bus on a message board.

You make this kid sounds as if he is going to spend the summer taking the ACT over and over in hopes that he can score a 12 in order to qualify for his scholarship to Kentucky.

Your original post would have been fine if you simply stated that he chose SNC over NC and said what you thought of him as a player.

While I do not dare throw myself into this heated disagreement, I just wonder, AndOne, do you think that Phil will have a chance to play this year. He has two proven Guards in front of him. Both Jandron and  Dowden played more than significant minutes last year. Although Tony did have a down year last year compared to his Honorable Mention year, he is still a good athlete. Do you think Phil will have a chance to prove himself and get some valuable minutes this season?

Andone,

I am usually not this stubborn, but you wont convince me that you are in the right or taking the high ground on this issue. It really struck a nerve with me for whatever reason.

That being said, lets drop it and go back to talking hoops so others on the board dont have to tread through our bickering.

Fightin----

The portion of your post that I highlighted above tells the story. You ding someone because you don't like the way they approach the subject, and you criticize the content without even reading the entire post. Very intelligent.

As far as your insistence on a person being in one of 3 categories you mention in order to be qualified, I know you'll have a hard time believing this, but I fit squarely in the 'B' position. So yes, I know very well what I'm talking about.

As far as "making it sound like..................................," I don't see how saying it was surprising he was admitted to one school and denied by the other does anything of the sort. Another attempt at twisting words to fit your subjective interpretation.

He'll be attending one school rather than another because, in part, despite the fact that both schools are generally regarded as being on the same relative academic plain, he was admitted to one and denied by the other. Under the circumstances, I thought inquiring as to the reasoning involved in the differing final decisions was a valid question.

In any case, I think thats enough on the subject
