I was looking at rosters around the league and noticed that Hoyt Rees and Pat Ebbing are not listed as returnees for Lake Forest.

Its not surprising for a freshman to decided on another school after a year, but Rees was a 2 or 3 year starter I think. I don't think we have any LFC representation here, but could this be a mistake or perhaps Rees played somewhere else first and is out of eligibility?

Upon examination of the Lake Forest site it seems to confirm your thoughts on Rees but contradict the Ebbing thoughts.  I dont know if this is the site you were looking at and I'm just missing something, but even so it looks like of the 8 players listed as returners only 2 (Beyersdorf and Campbell) 3 if you count Ebbing played signifcant minutes/made significant contributions.  Once again I could be missing something, but that doesn't seem to bode too well for this upcoming year

My mistake PG, I overlooked Ebbing. Looks like just Rees that is missing.

That being said, does anyone know if Rees is just a mistake, it does seem unusual to start your first two years in a program and then quit, maybe he transfered to another school to play ball?  Probably wont get answered since we have no Lake Forest representation but maybe some speculation haha

In looking into this, I spoke with an extended member of the Lake Forest basketball team family. The information currently available reveals:

1. Hoyt Rees IS returning to Lake Forest this year, but as a student ONLY. Word is that he wants to become a vet, and in keeping with that desire, has decided to forgo his remaining basketball eligibility in order to concentrate on his studies and increase his attractiveness as far as being a grad school applicant.

2. While he is still listed on the roster as a returning player, current odds favor Ebbing also NOT playing this year. He is still on the roster most likely because the coaching staff has not yet informed the web master to remove his name, possibly in the hope of still being able to convince him to play if he returns to school this year, which, as of a week or so ago, appeared to be about a 50/50 proposition. I believe  classes at LFC began today so this initial question should now have an answer.

Cant fault him for that, its tougher to get into vet school than med school these days.

I heard that Tony Jandron will not be playing for SNC this year....wants to focus on his heater in hopes of getting drafted into the MLB.  That would hurt them a lot.

CU The Truth

Hey there I've been a long time reader and decided to take the plunge considering how little Carroll UNIVERSITY is talked about. They have been right up there with (FU) LU for the last five years and have been one of the top three programs in the state during that time. There is way too much talk about a team which is going to finish last (Beloit), and I am sick of seeing all the LU posters talk about how great their team is when Carroll has been just about as good over the same amount of time.

As for this year, with all the players leaving from contenders it looks like it will again be the Pioneers (of Carroll) and the LU chumps battling it out for conference where I will give Carroll the edge. They return Schultz (should've been COY), Hoch (Should've been 2nd if not 1st team AC), and Ladwig (easily should have been POY no questions asked). At the D3 level it is all about the guards and Carroll probably has 2 of the 3 best guards in the conference. They will need to find a third scorer, but I'm sure someone will be able to fill that role. Lawrence will be in the same boat, very guard heavy, and I belive will again have a very solid team. With that said, I will take my chances with Ladwig, Hoch and company and predict a conference cahmpionship for the newly christened University.

With all that talent it seems it should have been them making the trip to the NCAA's last year...or at least the conference champs.

A tough statement considering Lawrence holds 4 NCAA appearances comapred to 2 for Carroll, 4 MWC tournament championships to 1, and 4 regular season championships to 0 (going back to '03-'04).

As a side note, Ladwig is pretty awesome.

I took the bait; apologies to the rest of the board.

Greek Tragedy

Not the best initial post to welcome yourself to the board...to me, my first impression is that you come off as a trash talking college (or Univ) grad and now you'll have to earn MY respect with some "good" posts.  Other than that, welcome to the board...that's all.

CU The "TRUTH"---------

I neither root for or against Carroll or Lawrence, so I have no bias one way or another in your "battles" with any of your conference opponents.

However, I am a bit surprised that you bill your posts as being the "truth" but yet chose to hide behind a GUEST label. If you are a minister of nothing but the truth, why don't you register and become a "full" member like the rest of us? That way if you spout off with a bunch of crap that somehow isn't "the truth," or make outlandish statements with no source information which can be discounted by several (not one or two) posters you can be held accountable by means of having your "Karma" affected. After all, if you always tell the truth, you'll skyrocket to fame as all knowing, and your Karma will reflect your superior knowledge.

I myself often have strong opinions which put me at odds with other posters who either don't like what I say or how I might say it, but I usually can at least back up those opinions with sources close to the situation ot at least personal observation. While its true that I sometimes get dinged for even a slight criticism of a school or player and sometimes take a hit from those that have grown to dislike me, even when I say something nice, at least I'm willing to support my opinions/statements, and know I'll be held accountable for what I say,

So, come on and jump in. Sometimes we can use a little truth in some of these rooms.
Yes, sometimes you'll take a hit just because u don't say a certain school or player is the best thing since apple pie, but if you indeed do tell the "truth" I think a majority of posters who know at least a little about basketball or whatever sport you're talking about, will generally support your opinion. ot at least your right to voice it. Just another typical Carroll fan.  I don't know if we have ever had a level headed Carroll fan in here.  I can name plenty of others that several of the longer term members will remember such as William Wallace and his band of troops...

The best way to get Carroll talked about is to post regularly, not talk trash (unless it's about Ripon), and actually add to the conversation.  Unfortunately, all the Carroll fans want to do is whine, drink heavilly, and pretend that their team is better then one that has owned them at least in the MWC tournament.

In fact lets take a look at Lawrence vs Carroll since the 1999-2000 season shall we:
Jan 11, 2000  Lawrence 65, Carroll 63
Feb 14, 2000, Lawrence 72, Carroll 56
Jan 16, 2001, Carroll 83, Lawrence 70
Jan 30, 2001, Lawrence 79, Carroll 58
Jan 15, 2002, Lawrence 96, Carroll 91
Feb 13, 2002, Lawrence 81 Carroll 68
Jan 21, 2003, Carroll 94, Lawrence 87
Feb 15, 2003, Lawrence 83, Carroll 77
Jan 7, 2004, Lawrence 61, Carroll 60
Feb 14, 2004, Lawrence 76 Carroll63
Feb 28, 2004, Lawrence 82, Carroll 71 (MWC Tournament)
Jan 18, 2005, Lawrence 80, Carroll 72
Feb 19, 2005 Carroll 58, Lawrence 54
Feb 25, 2005, Lawrence 87, Carroll 76 (MWC Tournament)
Jan 18, 2006, Lawrence 86, Carroll 81
Feb 15, 2006, Lawrence 64, Carroll 63
Feb 25, 2006, Lawrence 68 Carroll 62 (MWC Tournament)
Jan 27, 2007 Carroll 72, Lawrence 45
Feb 17, 2007, Carroll 76, Lawrence 63
Feb 2, 2008 Carroll 115, Lawrence 113
Feb 23, 2008, Lawrence 92, Carroll 80
March 1, 2008, Lawrence 98, Carroll 95 (MWC Tournament)

Final Record:
Lawrence 16-6 against Carroll since 1999-2000 season including 4-0 in the MWC tournament.  Yes Carroll has won 3 of the last 4 regular season games between the two schools, but still hasn;t gotten over the rather large hump that is beating them in the MWC tournament.

Oh well..maybe he will actually decide to come back and man up once the season nears closer...but I don't find it too likely.

Interest choice of truth. Given that our visitor understands that their is another team named the Pioneers in the league, and given his statement on the importance of guards, I'm surprised at his choosing to ignore the names Grotberg, Arsenault, and Long from that other Pioneer team. I understand that many will discount the stats from Grinnell, but to completely ignore these three as guards in the league, seems...odd.

Hey, as a fan, I'd love to see Ladwig or Hoch on my team, but wouldn't the rest of you like to have any of those three Grinnell seniors on yours?

System Error

No disrespect to CU but to say they are better than Lawrence at this point is just wrong. Not only does the record speak for itself but LU has won 4 of the last 5 conference championships and Grinnell won the other one.

On another front...I agree that Ladwig is one of the best guards in the league and a POY candidate. However, Hoch being a first teamer last year? He is an excellent player and very efficient. But first team? Who should he have replaced on the first team. Do you honestly believe he is better than Kroeger, Gillespie and the Grinnell Trio?

Yes he does.  Which is why he is a blatant homer who has no concept of the depth of guards in this league...
Lagwig is a stug, and He would look great in Blue and White, but I'm happy with Kroger, and I'm sure the red and Black Pioneers are happy with their guys as well....

Larry, Don't you mean the "scarlet" and black pioneers ??

Tom, Does todays 65 for 9 make you feel better than my 105 for 18 ?? Couldn't play 18 as a tournament was going on but I'm pretty sure I would have gotten through the next 9 in 40 or less.  ;)
