Greek Tragedy

Well, Grinnell goes down to MSOE 110-107 in a game they had no business being in at the end.  They had a good chance to hold MSOE on their possession with the Raiders being up 108-107.  The ref bails them out with yet another horrible call and the MSOE player nails both free throws to put them up three.  Little Dave comes down and gets a decent 3-pt look but bounces out, John Grotberg tries a useless tip in that also fails to find the bottom of the net.

Attending the game and not looking at the boxscore, I would say that Grinnell played a horrible game and at times didn't look like they could score in a brothel in Vegas.  It seemed that bad.  Both Little Dave and Bobby Long coughed the ball up a lot and Long seemed like he had a hard time hitting the 3.

After checking the boxscore, I think it really misleads how the team played.  To my surprise, Bobby Long actually had a decent game (9-17, 4-9 from 3) with 23 points and Grotberg having yet another quiet 40 (13-24, 6-13 from 3).  I think what killed Grinnell was they only had 82 FG attempts (making 40) and hitting only 14 of 43 3s.  They forced a solid 33 turnovers though.  What really hurt them and the boxscore proves is missed free throws.  Little Dave was just 2-9 and the team missed more (14) than they made (13).  Ahmed Idrissa had a solid game, doing more than the 7 steals the boxscore gave him credit for.  He was all over the place.  Knisley also put in a solid effort.

Can't take credit away from MSOE though, they made their free throws and did well handling the ball (even though they had 33 turnovers).  Sounds weird to say that, but they put the ball in the net when they needed to.

The big three of Little Dave, Grotberg and Long were a combined 29-52 and 12-25 from 3 while the rest of the team was 11-30 and 2-18 from 3.  It's obvious who should be shooting the ball and who shouldn't.

All in all, a disappointing display with free throws and lack of shots the culprits to a deserving loss.

Any time there is a close loss, look to how many free throws were missed. That's usually where the answer lies.

Yes, I believe Lake Forest is very poor.

Based on what?  Its probably too early after 3 games to make any judgements either way

Based on the fact that they dont have a lot of talent. Therefore, I doubt they will outscore a lot of teams. You have to outscore teams by at least one to get a win. Otherwise, you tie, lose, or have two-man sack races on consecutive Sundays until a champion is crowned.

Ah but what you don't know is that Lake Forest recruits specifically based on sack racing skills, so if it ever comes down to the consecutive Sunday scenario, look out

I didn't know games could end in ties or scores of 11-10.  ??? ;D :D ;)

The Roop

In lieu of "Coach Hahn" I believe a new nemesis has found The Roop. "Walston Hoover" from the IIAC football board. Scots4 knows to what I am speaking. I apologized for MWC schools not having Domed Stadiums and valet parking as they apparently do in the IIAC; but that wasn't good enough.

I realize the total loathing of Ripon. Did they beat Marian? I thought Marian defeated Lawerence convincingly last week. I must be getting it all wrong. If any in the know fans wants to help me out I would appreciate it.

I'm gonna guess this is a Ripon player who is upset that no one mentioned this?

The above post shows that Ripon beat Marian...and don't you dare start comparing scores on who beat who and then who lost to who.  Go far enough down the line, Ripon will end up being better than North Carolina.   ::) :D ;) ;D :-*

Eh..

LU played HORRIBLE against Marian.  Everyone has their awful games.  LU shot only 40.3 %(27-67) from the floor, including 25% (6-24) from 3-point range and only 61% (13-21) from the foul line.  Not good.

I'm glad it was now and early instead of when we will be destroying Ripon in the regular season.

Come on back...I need some fresh Ripon meat to rip on (I mean have a mild manored discussion with) Stevey and Early haven't come back to the nest yet this winter...
