All this convo that our announcing is generating is awesome. I just get a kick out of getting reactions from people. There is no such thing as bad press. As for the person knocking my G.U.M. or grammer usage and mechanics, thats stupid, if you can sound out a work and make cents of it....get it i just did it right there, anyway watching the game on mute would be a poor decision im my opinion because you would be missing out on free laughs, if it has a lack of seriousness thats alright , laugh it up. When we come back Jan 7th....mark your calender and set your watch, we will be giving out our phone number and would love to hear comments from the dedicated viewers such as yourselves. Good or bad comments, bring them on, but we are quick witted and if you want to play with the fire.....watch out you might get burned. And i resent the idea of me being a meat head, even though i am a meat head i am more educated and i dont even drink.

also like to mention both my announcing partner and I are friends with the entire basketball team and we review what we talk about during the game, they love it and they get a kick out of this board as well, Fan favorite Jamie Dematthew completely endorses our good natured announcing.....just ask him.

Unless it's back hair, of course.  Naked back hair brushing - not good.

well thanks for the kind words on how to announce. However it is the MWC broadcast and not espn.

I absolutely hate that mentality. Hate it, hate it, hate it. >:( "We're not in the big time, so it's OK if we do a half-assed job," is the wrong way to go about doing anything in life, much less something that interacts with the public and represents an institution (and broadcasting a basketball game on a school network qualifies as both).

If something's worth doing, it's worth doing well. If you're representing something bigger than yourself to the public, then do the job properly so that you don't embarrass the people and the institution that you represent. And, most of all, don't try to use the small-fry world of D3 sports as an excuse to adopt a slacker attitude. You belittle everyone around you who is putting in a Grade A effort when you do that -- players, coaches, event staff, etc. They care enough to work hard and put all they have into what they do ... and then your "who cares?" attitude on the air indirectly mocks them for it.

You're really not doing much to sell me on the idea of tuning into an LU broadcast to hear you. You come across as one of those guys who thinks he's much funnier than he actually is.

Oh, and I hate to break it to you, but the Moses stuff wasn't clever. Anybody can do a manna joke or a Red Sea joke. It's "obvious" material, not clever material. It'd have shown much more wit to go with a Grandma Moses joke, or a Moses Malone joke, or a Michelangelo joke. I'll stop there, since I'm not writing anyone's material without a fee. ;)

well thanks for the kind words on how to announce. However it is the MWC broadcast and not espn. We are two wrestlers who were chosen to do the job not basketball players. We happen to love seinfeld so thats what you might get sometimes. Plus i think there is a serious lack of sense of humor in the room. And i would thing that whoever said we are dumb "larry u " id say we are pretty clever for coming up with old testament analogies with players last names, but thats just me. whatever its cool , if you wanted some serious commentary you could have tuned into the pointer radio station were the professional was doin the play by play, he was sitting right next to me and doing a damn fine job. As im sure he has been doing the last 20 years hes been doing it. So next time when i announce my 4th LU game ever im still going to announce the way i have been, because im in college, have a maturity level of a college male, and a sense of humor that goes far beyond that of the people that watch and listen to webcasts and then post on internet forums at the same time......peace , im outta here

We just took up nearly an entire page discussing various aspects of sack racing and there is a lack of humor in this room???

I think that what he meant by "there is a serious lack of a sense of humor in the room" is, "Laugh at me! I'm funny, damn it! Just ask my mom!"

So does the fact that they switched to Carroll University make it any less of a girls name?

Since Carroll is a boy's name, the answer is "no". Unless you know a girl named University, that is.

I want to know about the basketball game. I didn't tune in to listen to stand-up.

When is this going to happen? I have to make sure to turn my volume up. I have some serious knock knock jokes I wanna throw your way.

I'm not going to complain too much. Monday Night Football threw Dennis Miller out there, you guys can't be as awful as him.

All that this press has done for you is assure that those tuning into the games immediately mute it as opposed to those who would take 2 minutes to figure it out for themselves and then mute it.

Dennis Miller never would've taken the easy way out by making a manna joke about a player named Moses. Instead, we'd have gotten a three-minute spiel about how Haven Moses had one of the biggest afros in the NFL back in the early '70s when he was a wide receiver for the Broncos, and how NASA had to be consulted by NFL helmet-makers regarding the physics of containing expanding matter within a small confined space when designing a helmet for Haven Moses. Meanwhile, three more plays would've taken place in the game while Al Michaels silently waited out Dennis's riff.

laryubb,

One last thing that I recalled after your last post.

Quotealso like to mention both my announcing partner and I are friends with the entire basketball team and we review what we talk about during the game, they love it and they get a kick out of this board as well, Fan favorite Jamie Dematthew completely endorses our good natured announcing.....just ask him.

Don't use nicknames when announcing, the listeners don't know who you are talking about.
You're a master of Karate...and friendship...for everyone! – from the musical "The Nightman Cometh"

Greek Tragedy

The MWCSID emailed me last year to do the Oshkosh/LU game.  Fortunately or unfortunately, the mic didn't work, so everyone got to watch the game on mute involuntarily.  The one thing that he said to me was that, "It's on TV, not radio, you don't need to do exact play-by-play."  or something like that.  I think just having insightful comments on an actual play or player is fine and "filling in" the audience on what's going on is sufficient.  You can't really compare what the Point radio guy was doing to what the LU MWCTV guy is doing because it's two totally different media.

Anyway, I didn't hear any of the game on the radio because I was suffering in person.  I, for one, like a little humor.  My first time, and so far my only time, of doing the MWCTV, I was planning on being pretty straight forward and concentrate on not screwing up someone's name.

BTW, I hate Haikus. lol :-)

Vitale is annoying, Dennis Miller was too smart for everyone and Madden is Mr. Obvious.

Three times over the last couple of days I've started typing a response with which I would have almost this exact tone and message but I wasn't able to finish my post.  You've voiced my sentiments perfectly!

One final thing regarding the whole "we're not ESPN" shtick... ESPN is tried, tested, and proven.  It is an entire station devoted to sports and sports broadcasting and it works.  Seinfeld was a sitcom that occasionally mentioned sports, but only as a punchline and never broadcasted a basketball game.  Rather than delving into the unknown about what may or may not work in the realm of Seinfeld broadcasting (... and, believe it or not, the comedy of Seinfeld is not universally accepted as amazing and wonderful by everyone, and the genius of Seinfeld comedy that DID work as a sitcom did so in large part due to the characters who played the parts... of whom you are not), why not emulate what ESPN has done and done well for over 20 years?

Strive to be the best of the best.
