Apparently Mooney stepped down.

Got to be a story there. Especially since they say the DC stepped down as well. Of course, they have LaGrange listed as D2, so I'm not sure how plugged in they are.

Scots13

There's a little write up on LaGrange's website. Only thing it says about Mooney is he's "pursuing other opportunities."

Since this is the Matt Mumme Show from now on, watch out for LaGrange. I have a hunch he can recruit GA's D3 talent pool dry.

whoa...can't remember ever seeing a d3 coach in this region step down (or get fired, for that matter) at this stage of the season...let's see how the panthers respond

Pat Coleman

I called and texted Mooney for comment but have not heard back.

That's what I was thinking. If this does turn out to be a pursuing other interests case, I hope it's good enough to leave LaGrange with no regrets and the best move for both Mooney and his family. Only 3 games..let's see what Mumme can do.

Not sure what's up with the Mooney-Mumme musical chairs at LaGrange, but that "pursuing other interests" line is typical corporate jargon for "he did something he shouldn't have done or ticked off someone he shouldn't have ticked off."  With the assistant in the mix too, it makes you wonder.  In my mind, it would have to be something fairly significant to prompt a sudden change with three games to go.

If it was something he/they did, I'd hope to God it was borderline death penalty for the program to let go of the man who started the program from the ground up with games still left on the schedule. If not, then shame on the college. They haven't set the world on fire, but still a solid program and good for the USAC.  Maybe the admin got tired of seeing 40+ points put on the board every game and still being only 3-4? That would make sense in my mind for the DC to leave too. Who knows. I hope it's not a sticky situation in LaGrange like it was a few years ago in Maryville with Coach Ierulli. Probably won't be..Ierulli was an alum and Mooney isn't.

I had my usual Thursday lunch with several folks from the CNU athletic dept. After lunch I was at my desk and looked at d3football.com and saw the news about LaGrange. Then went to their website. I sent an email to CNU and they didn't know about it. The team is getting on the bus in about an hour to start the trip to GA.

Interesting. Reminds me of CNU women's hoops coaching resigning just before the season after a final 4 appearance without any comments or celebration of her accomplishments.

Pat will keep us posted - if he finds anything out. Sounds like this may be a secret for a while.

CNU85

went to LaGrange football website. Clicked on coaches.....Mooney is nowhere to be seen. That was quick.

Pat Coleman

Actually, it wasn't quick enough. His bio was still there after noon today. :)

nothing on our local news (LaGrange Ga is ~35 miles from the farm...through the woods and accross the 'Hooch)

Pretty similar to what we wrote, except we did our due diligence as journalists and tried to get hold of Mooney:

I figure it's because we actually heard of LaGrange before Mumme got there. :)

Nah, I wouldn't know anything about it. Definitely not your average football season Thursday. Can't help but wonder what's going on over there.
