You are right Scots, a very winable game which I place on the President's and AD's shoulders.  Our players had gone through alot during the previous 48 hours before the game.  Many were very upset the Coach Mooney wasn't on the sideline.  In fact, I counted at least 30 players had the name "Mooney" written on the tape on their wrists and ankles.

The defense played well which was expected since CNU has one of the worst offense in the conference this season.  But I was really surprised that our offense was shutdown.  Our sideline was disorganized, players were yelling at each other, no true leadership was show by the new head coach and remaining assistants.  Coach Mooney always had great game management leadership.

The reasons coming out for Coach Mooney's dismissal is just laughable.  It seems like they found a couple of players who complained about Coach and based his dismissal on those few players.

It truly seemed that LaGrange was just turning the corner with the success of our offense and solid defense through most of the year.  Coach Mooney and his staff worked very hard upgrading the talent and putting in a new offensive scheme this season.

It is also coming out that the AD has been wanting to get rid of Mooney for the past few years despite Mooney being a big support of our AD.  She is also the softball coach at LaGrange which probably explains alot of things......

i was just looking at some numbers for this upcoming weekend...

this game features the #1 (huntingdon, 589.3 ypg) and #11 (mu, 511.5 ypg) offense in the nation through 11/2/13

hc is 6th in passing at 347 ypg and 28th in rushing at 242.3 ypg

mu is 12th in passing at 323.8 ypg and 80th in rushing at 187.7 ypg

max reber is currently #1 in the nation in total offense at 382.4 ypg

here is where things get ugly...

hc is tied for 170th in total defense at 412.4 ypg, while mu is tied at 217 yielding a whopping 467.4 ypg...hc is 234 (of 242) in passing yards allowed and mu is 242 (of 242) in passing yards allowed

i'm setting my over-under predictions for this week...
90 points
1200 total yards
775 passing yards

anyone want to take the under on any of those :)

should be an exciting weekend of football in the usasac...wins by hc and m'ville would set up a huge final weekend for those two teams, while losses by both would put the monarchs in a good position...i'm pulling for the big cats in the games that matter this weekend

Do a little quick google search on Tony Ierulli. Sounds like the same exact thing other than we didn't have an assistant promoted to full time head ball coach. Hindsight is 20/20 and I'd be bold faced lying if I said I didn't like the new staff and what they bring to the table and being 13-5 since the beginning of Rader's tenure.  Hopefully everything will work out for the best interest for all involved.
Do coaches get fired? Yes.
Should coaches get fired with 2 games left and 2 days before a conference game? Hell no.
If LaGrange wanted a coaching change they should've done it after the season because, let's face it, the have the right to. The way they have treated Coach Mooney and his family is despicable in my opinion. Shame on them.
I feel for those guys that are caught up in the middle of this, players and assistants.

Good luck to Mumme. Fair weather fans will come out of the woodwork and bash every move he makes until he starts winning.

Really?  Please tell us what you know of the situation...I am curious to know how you know so much what is happening in LaGrange.

Firstly, I don't very much like the tone of your response. I am on your side on this matter, and I would like to be treated with such respect. I could've been one of the many that saw the news and laughed at the situation and thought to myself, "Who cares about LaGrange?" (Trust me, many have). However, I looked at it, read what was available, saw the travesty, and formed my own opinion on the matter. With what you posted earlier leads me to believe that my assumptions were correct.

Secondly, I have literally been in this situation. Personally. Me. I. Myself. With MY team. And not in the far distant past. This is nothing new. The way the  situation was handled down at LaGrange is not the first time something like this has happened, nor will it be the last.  LaGrange College, Maryville College, XYZ College/University are not on islands.  And yes, the truth hurts. People couldn't give half a rats a$$ about a 3-5 Division III football team when in the middle of SEC country. MARYVILLE IS 15 MILES FROM NEYLAND. I can personally attest to this fact, along with 120 former teammates. When Rader was hired, it felt like the entire Knox Metro area bashed not only the football program, but the school along with it for the entire off season and 6 weeks into the 2012 season. Now because MC is 7-1, unbeaten in USAC play and Rader is 13-5 overall, people are not "hating" anymore. So when I said, and I'm quoting myself:
"Good luck to Mumme. Fair weather fans will come out of the woodwork and bash every move he makes until he starts winning."...I was not pulling junk out of my backside.

If you want to see what a situation like this is going to produce, go to knoxnews.com, search Tony Ierulli, Maryville College, or Maryville College Football, then read the articles, then after you formulate your own opinion and thoughts comparing the two situations, READ THE COMMENTS.

I would love to continue to have a conversion about this topic, as well as continue to give support to the obviously emotionally hurt LaGrange players and fan base.  However, please resist from using an arrogant, sharp, and ungrounded language during our conversions.

My dad and I are hoping to be there for Maryville as well depending on the weather.  Take care of business against Methodist and make it interesting!

I may have to miss the Methodist game too. Work stuff. :( Will be my first home game missed since 2008 if I can't get there. Will definitely be there for Murvul though. Hopefully we've gotten it back together the last couple of weeks and can take care of MU.

Go Hawks!

I appreciate the offer, DG. You get the cokes and I'll bring some of that sweet Tennessee whiskey. We can have ourselves a good ol' time
If Methodist beats yall this weekend, and of course MC doesn't blow it, then I probably won't make it down for our game. Have to save gas money to make the playoff trip. But if both of us win this weekend, I'll definitely be in Montgomery.

I'll be the short guy with an orange $50k alumni shirt, black jacket and by that time, an awfully rough looking November beard.

So basically you have an uninformed opinion because if you actually read the press release the only thing either side is saying then you would know that Coach Mooney resigned  to seek other opportunities.  Why?  No one knows because nothing has been in the press so maybe that is the whole truth.  Anything else is pure speculation.

Scots13

Please don't insult my intelligence.

A man that started at a school and went 0-20 does not leave a team like this with 3 weeks to go.

If it were purely a "other interest" situation, don't you think he'd be proud about the new opportunity and say something via press release or reply text message to Pat?

Listen to the podcast this week were Pat and Keith talked about the Mooney situation. As they stated, he hasn't said anything because he doesn't "want to burn bridges." When it comes to D3 football, I'd shut up and listen to what these guys have to say. This isn't their first rodeo.

I'm not a fan. Not a parent. Not a high school coach. I am a four year football alumni of a USAC team. Being privileged to play is also being privileged to see, hear, and experience the inner workings of collegiate football. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I am, however, claiming to be smarter than the average bear.  And having experience to having witnessed a coaching change, it is MY OPINION*** that this is a firing and promotion, not just a step down. If it were a step down, why is the DC gone too? LC's defense isn't stellar, so that leads me to believe the firing conspiracy theory.

AND, lets face it. Mumme is not an unknown name. Perfect opportunity for the administration to flex its muscle. It is MY OPINION*** that LaGrange is trying to piggy back on Mumme's last name and get more recruits on campus.

I still, after all this, support Coach Mooney and the LaGrange players in this tough time. (It's a fact this is a tough time for the players. Don't try to argue/question me on this point.)

Congratulations to Dexter Russell for being named to the d3football Team of the Week.  Well done!

WR Dexter Russell, Sr., Greensboro
Russell caught 23 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns in a 51-50 loss to Methodist. That total doesn't include a two-point conversion pass he caught with 6:57 to go in the game to give the Pride a 50-44 lead. He was two catches short of tying the Division III mark for receptions in a game.
