Money is it's own purpose, of course, and I understand that. As for recruiting, beating a team of freshman is a small recruiting benefit for a short time. But in a year or two or three, the recruiting advantage is silly. "We beat them as freshman, we are competitive with them! Come here, don't waste your time in FCS..." wouldn't work when that matured FCS team would essentially splat you all over the field.

In a year or two, half of the kids Torbush brought in to fill roster spots probably won't see the field. To think each kid ETSU has on its roster is FCS caliber is goofy.

Not sure what your point is.  You pointed out it is good for recruiting if they win. I agree for an exceedingly limited shelf life. An FCS school with three or four recruiting classes is likely to be significantly better than one with a year and some kids who were willing to sit out to start a program. So whatever recruiting advantage you get from beating up on freshman is irrelevant a year or two later. To claim otherwise is silly.

AND you do not have to be a old beaten down thug; such as myself. Just ensure they are germane to the conversation not "What's Germany got to do with this?" ;)

January 29. Are we still in the holiday greeting period? ;)

Damn is it Feb already?  :)That's what a TBI will do for you Hawk. But a mitigating factor is it's my first post of the new year.

Hope things are well for you and also for your team.

Apparently MC is using a few frequent flyer miles this offseason. Saw a tweet from a coach about this year's recruiting class.
Kids are coming in from TN, FL, GA like normal
TX and NC... becoming normal
AL (sorry Hawks and DG), MO, MS, IL, and CA.

What happen to the day when recruits waited until May 1st, compare several financial packages from schools of interest and then decide where they were going. Great news that MC aleady has recruits locked in. Certainly does not work that way at HSC or most other ODAC schools.

Lots of schools offer binding early admissions still. Some in the ODAC do, so it is possible that the schools know some recruits.

I understand, HSC has about 10 locked in with many more showing interest. They are the ones looking at several schools and will compare the different packages. Also, several of these have invited walk on status at several schools and they must weight the pros and cons of what that really means.

Reports out of Maryville is that Rader and DC Scott Brummet are leaving for ETSU.
They played there and were part of the last team before the University disbanded the team. Really hope this isn't true.

Looks like it's true, Scots.

Hate to see him go. He was good for Maryville and good for the conference. Hopefully MC can get someone that can keep the program headed in a good direction.

jknezek

That's a tough loss. He was doing really good things in Maryville.

It makes sense that Coach Rader would want to be part of building a program at his alma mater.

I wonder if he would have made this decision if Maryville could pay him a respectable salary, the kind one would raise a family with.  Same issue for the successful coaches in other sports.  Really good coaches like Rader are unlikely to be able to resist getting paid unless they have money of their own or a partner with a good job and do not need to worry about finances.

It is not like DI where nobody seems to care if coaches make 100 times what chemists and historians make.

MC named 7 year assistant Shaun Hayes head coach this afternoon. I guess an official release will come shortly.
