I'll send you a message Saturday with our tailgate location-- love to have a cold Coca-Cola with you guys. Just because we're from Tennessee and Alabama doesn't mean we can't be civil on gameday ;D
High fructose corn syrup in a can or

real cane sugar in a chilled bottle (what we call in Texas "Mexican Coca-Cola")?   ;)

Real cane sugar or corn syrup, the one that burns a little on the way down. Or, as my papaw (Mr. East Tennessee himself) says, "puts a little hair on your chest." ::)
Chilled in the bottle. You might find Mexican Coca-Cola in a mom-and-pop (Hispanic) grocery store in the original 10 ounce bottle with a sticker on the bottle for the ingredients.

Yes, it will put "hair on your chest"!

I grew up around the Mexican culture. Working on a family farm with migrant workers during summers from age of 7 to 23 will open a young man's eyes. Their coke and our coke are different--I think I'll stick with the U S of A. I am fond of Jarritos and horchata, though. One of these days I'll make my way down to ol' Mexico
A bottle of Jarritos is smooth...

It wasn't a pretty win by any means but it was a great win for the Hawks. Definitely a heart stopper. They pretty much beat us everywhere except where it really counts thanks to our defense standing up when it really had to and holding Maryville to three field goals and getting the stop at the end.
Maryville is going to be tough to handle the next couple of years with some of the young guys they have. I don't know that I am going to be looking forward to this match up very much.
On to Averett next week to see if we can wrap up the share of the conference title and the post season berth.

Go Hawks!

Huntingdon rolls up 700 yds of offense in the 42-14 win over Averett. Three turnovers and a silly unsportsman like conduct penalty on 4th down to keep an Averett scoring drive going made it a lot more nerve wracking than it needed to be.
Washington beats Chicago and with Berry leading Centre 21-13 in the 4th, if that holds, nobody within 500 miles. Afraid we might be flying somewhere far away for the 1st round.

Go Hawks!

Just remember, it could have been worse: http://athletics.wheaton.edu/boxscore.aspx?path=football&id=4562
Last year, Lakeland averaged 1.1 yards per play versus Wheaton in the 1st Round...

Our offense was out of sync for most of the day but Wheaton had a lot to do with that. Just 3 points from two trips inside the 10 hurt a good bit but if we could somehow erase that 5 minute stretch of the 2nd quarter where EVERYTHING went wrong then maybe it could have been a lot better game.

Go Hawks!

Hopefully we will see them next year ;D

USA South All-Conference Team announced today(http://www.usasouth.net/sports/fball/2016-17/releases/20161117f31a54). Ten Hawks on the first team and 5 on the second team with Luke Bailey named Offensive Player of the Year, DeAnte' Griffith Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Mike Turk Coach of the Year. A couple of Huntingdon freshmen listed as well as several sophomores so we should have some good pieces still in place even with the big senior class this season.

Go Hawks!

Guilford has posted its 2017 football schedule and, in addition to losing Catholic as a conference opponent, we will not play Greensboro after a 20 year run from 1997-2016.  It hasn't been competitive of late with GCQ winning 4 straight and the last three by a collective 198-13.  In addition, we are not playing Averett, but the Quakers are playing at Huntingdon and at Methodist from the USASAC.   Here's the full schedule with 4 out of 6 ODAC games at home (no night games except at Davidson):

Sept 2 @ Huntingdon 1 pm
Sept 9 @ Methodist  1 pm
Sept 16 @ Davidson 7 pm
Sept 23 The Apprentice School 1 pm
Sept 30 Open
Oct 7 HSC 1 pm
Oct 14 @ W&L 1 pm
Oct 21 Shenandoah 1 pm
Oct 28 @ Bridgewater 2 pm
Nov 4 RMC 1 pm
Nov 11 E&H 1 pm

W&L in 1999 probably. I think that was a year or two after they had been forced into the transition.

I confess I didn't know Davidson even played football. :D  Though many years ago they were pretty damn good in basketball.

Davidson and Georgetown were two regular opponents for W&L until the NCAA mandated they move up or down in all sports. No one got grandfathered the way they were in soccer, lax and hockey.

Guilford played Davidson several times before they had to change to DI non-scholarship.  The Wildcats currently play in the Pioneer League and have fielded football since 1897.  Other Pioneer League members are Butler, Campbell, Dayton, Drake, Jacksonville, Marist, Morehead St., San Diego, Stetson and Valparaiso.  Davidson actually went 10-0 one season, although I can't remember the year.

Note:  I looked it up ... it was 2000 ... their last season as an independent before joining the Pioneer League in 2001.
