my all conference teams are completed

1st and 2nd team offensive players

CONFERENCE ONLY STATS USED TO ACCOUNT FOR VARYING LEVELS OF COMPETITION UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED

quarterback
first team
roncketti, mc - offensive poty 297 ypg total offense, 29 total td's (10 games) and only 5 to's (4 int, 1 fum)
second team
pitts, fc - 205.3 ypg total offense, 22 total td's (10 games)

running back
first team
wilson, au - 130 ypg, 10 td's, 5.2 ypc
mullford, fc - 111 ypg, 11 td's, 8 ypc
second team
hill, mc - 109 ypg, 5 td's, 5.0 ypc
hilliard, cnu - 99 ypg, 8 td's, 5.3 ypc

hilliard gets the last spot over j. williams (87 ypg, 7 td's, 5.6 ypc...5 games)

full back
first team
hawkins, fc - 74 ypg, 2 td's, 5.7 ypc
second team
frates, su - 78 ypg, 4 td's, 3.4 ypc

frates will probably get 1st team as a nod to his career, but hawkins put up better numbers (ypc) in an offense that was infinitely better than the su offense

wide receiver
first team
hughley, au - 92 ypg, 7 td, 17.4 ypc
jackson, mvc - 88 ypg, 11 td, 17 ypc
second team
lowe, gc - 73 ypg, 2 td's, 9.3 ypc offensive freshman oty
davis, cnu - 71 ypg, 6 td's, 16.1 ypc

sands, mc is a possibility, especially if they name 3 wr's to the second team (see below) - the coaches may "make up" a position for lowe since he lined up in so many different positions this past year - i did put sands in as a ret specialist

first team te - silk, fc - 10 rec, 258 yards, 6 td's

couldn't find anyone listed as a te who deserved recognition...maybe the 2nd team will have 3 wr's

first team ol - 2 monarchs (breen and dinges), 1 panther, 1 cougar, 1 other
second team ol - 1 monarch (delapp), 2 panthers, 1 cougar, 2 others

despite the fact that cnusfinest is less than impressed with the monarch o-line, they did key one of the most prolific and balanced offenses in the conference/region/country and only allowed 5 sacks on the season - i can't pick individual players for the other teams because you've really got to see an ol on film or pay CLOSE attention to them during the game to really get a feel for how well they play

1st team defense and specials
we're running a 3-5 defense, because the lb's are the strength on the defensive side

defensive line
townsend, mvc - led d-lineman in tfl's (10),  sacks (6) and was second in tackles per game at 3.8
northern, mc - second among d-lineman in tfl's (7.5), sacks (3.5) and averaged 2 tpg (in all 10 games)
greene, gc - led d-lineman in tpg (5.2) and had 6 total tfl's and 1.5 sacks (tfl and sack stats for greene are for all 10 games)

linebackers
pope, mc - #2 among lb's in tpg (7.3), top 10 in sacks (2.5) and tfl (7.5)
moore, au - #4 among lb's in tpg (5.8 ), top 10 in sacks (2.5), tfl (8 ) and forced fumbles (2)
lawrence, mc - #3 among lb's in tpg (6.6), added 1.5 sacks
morse, cnu - #5 among lb's in tpg (5.5), top 10 in sacks (2.5)
wood, cnu - #7 among lb's in tpg (5.4) added .5 sack

i also considered the leading tackler among lb's, howerton for mvc, but he only played 4 conference games, and mvc's defense was among the worst in the conference

defensive backs
boyd, au - led db's with 6.6 tpg at 5'9"/170
p. ford, fc - #3 among db's with 5.3 tpg and t3 in pass break ups (8 ) and t2 in int's with 2 and scored a td on an int return
rodriguez, cnu - considered him as a return specialist, but couldn't really think of or find a db that i liked better

special teams
larkin, mc - pk - led conference in pat % and fg's made (struggled with fg% some this year), had 10 tb's in 10 games and had 2 40+ yard fg's
thurnes, au - p - 37.1 avg, 33.8 net avg, 16 of 46 punts inside the 20, 6 fair catches and no blocks
sands, mc - return specialist - rodriguez is the best in the conference, but he's on my team as a db - sands was 2nd with a 26.3 return average (his long on the season was 42, so he was consistently giving the monarchs 25+ yards without breaking one) - he also averaged a respectable 9.2 yards per punt return, ranking in the top 10 in the conference in both

defensive foty - spellman, ncwc

this may look a little captain and monarch heavy to some, but cnu led the conference in scoring and total defense as well as yards allowed per play (4.2), mc was second in scoring defense, 3rd in total defense (by .9 ypg) and 2nd in yards per play (5.1)

lastly, i have NO IDEA who will or should get dpoty - i have a suspicion that this award may go to woods based on career accomplishments, but i was unimpressed with the game he played against mc this year (freeman and morse looked better than him, to me) - if we're looking at sheer numbers from THIS YEAR, i think pope should be considered...he was the best linebacker on the field in the 4 games i saw (lawrence and morse were pretty close) and i didn't see a dl or db that was more impressive than those 3 lb's - of course, the mc defense is designed to funnel everything to the lb's, so some will say that pope and lawrence were "products of the system", but they produced

coach of the year - davis, fc - picked 5th, finished tied for first
(with a nod to coach sypult and dunlevy of au)

comments, criticism (of the teams selected) and thoughts are welcome :)

1/2 Karma Pt for ABNRGR

Narch - my comments....I enjoyed reading your post. I kept thinking....this man needs a job!!! Where do you find the time!?!?

rocket

Narch,
Mike Hill had 12 total tds, and I would have to go with the 2 seniors on the OL(Delapp and Willis).  They all played great though.  The WRs also did a great job with Sands leading in yards and catches, and Doleman leading in TDs with 7(6 big ones in Conf).  I think the WRs were the best group in the conf, but it would be tough to put one on the list because of the numbers.  They didn't have a problem sharing the ball.

ROCKET
Great job. when does your commissioning take place and what branch did you go?

CNU
better than nothing ;)

now that I'm all done with college football...I'm gonna join finest, rocket, and I guess mosh in being an old man poster.

I guess I'll start off my first post with a question...Rocket can you please explain to me why #44 from your team was giving the nazi salute and saying white power to our players??? If he was kidding I don't know but we were all really confused.

We actually all watched it as a team before we played you all...after he scored on a team you were playing at home...he ran through all his teammates without giving a high five or nothing and then went in front of the crowd and threw the salute. Don't really understand whats up with that.

p.s. sailor...time lounge here we come..I start saturday

Narch that was the problem with giving the award to Vernable 2 or 3 years in a row. The kid was good and all but not deserving over a couple of players last year. Wood had a great year in 04 and the loss of last years D linemen seemed to have had more of an impact on the defense than people thought. But through it all he still lead the best defense in the conference in tackles and he most certainly was a major focus during each coach's preparation for game week.  All three linebackers for CNU were really good and should end up somewhere on the All conf team.

The new schedule is tough and if the Captains don't prepare now it can easily be an 0-4 start. But it should make them battle tested for conference play so there are your pros and cons.

rocket - yeah, i didn't include receiving yardage or td's for any of the rb's, but probably should have...if i get a chance today, i'll run those numbers - i agree totally on the wr corps - while none of them (other than possibly sands) will be named all-conf., i wouldn't trade the 5 monarch wr's (sands, doleman, mularski, howard and robinson) for any group in the conference, and maybe not for any group in the south region - any one of them could be a legit #1 wr at a lot of places, but they all make each other better and any of them can step up when needed - they run good routes, have great hands, can stretch the field, block well, run after the catch and have good size, but best of all...they should all be back next year - whoever wins your job next year will have a talented and experienced receiving corps to throw to, for sure

i understand wanting those seniors, and you know the game better than i do, but i was very impressed with breen and dinges this season - in fact, i think the o-line will continue to improve and be a strength for this team - lavere alexander played quite a bit the last few games, and i can see him stepping in as a starting tackle to replace delapp - i imagine that one of the guards could slide over to center or that there is another center in the mix to pick up where willis left off - coach funderburk will have the o-line ready to play

i'm (obviously) impressed with hill, but matthews looked pretty nice toward the end of the season, too - he should be a nice complement to hill and give the monarchs 10-15 touches per game which will hopefully allow hill to stay healthy for 10 games next year - the monarchs are going to ride his legs, especially early, and he'll need some help to stay fresh all season long - will he wear #2 next year?  will lawrence get #1?

bottom line is, if the monarchs can find a suitable qb from the current back-ups or in a new recruit, this offense will be fine next year

once again, rocket, congrats on an outstanding season and thanks for making mc football fun for me, as a fan, the last few years - you really represent mc and d3 football well, and it's been a pleasure to watch you develop as a leader and a player - i hope you have a chance to make an all-region team (the voters are going to have to drill down deeper than the pure numbers and look for leadership and abnrgr's "intangibles, man") and possibly an academic all-american team...you deserve all of the accolades you get!

I hear Rob Rod was named USA South Defensive Player of the Year.

narch

dwadel - not to take anything away from alston, because he is VERY dangerous, but is he even the special teams poty on his own team?

here are hughley's numbers
pr - 11/231/21.0 avg/1 td
kr - 6/121/21.8 avg

correct me if i'm wrong, because i did not see averett play this year, but don't the cougars put 3 guys back deep to return kickoffs and go 2 deep to return punts? if so, could it be that alston's additional yardage and returns could have been because teams were kicking AWAY from hughley - don't be fooled by the big yardage totals...you have to look at the averages - au's defense was #6 in the conference in scoring and #7 in yards allowed, meaning that alston had more opportunities to return kicks than sands or rodriguez (coupled with the fact that teams kicked AWAY from rodriguez and sands)

for comparison sake, here are the 2 other returners that i consider among the best in the conference (along with hughley and alston)

sands, mc
pr - 11/101/9.2
kr - 16/428/26.8

and the best, in my opinion

rodriguez, cnu
pr - 7/117/16.7
kr - 10/268/26.8/1 td

Here is a link talking about SU breaking ground on the new end zone building and bathroom building behind the visitor bleachers on Monday at Shentel Stadium. Now that Shentel is getting its finishing touches I hope the administration can focus more on building that long awaited basketball arena next to Shentel to replace Shingleton. The link has a picture of what the building will look like.  http://www.su.edu/athletics/hornets_news.cfm?spid=1066

man, those are some really poor quality reproductions of the artist's renderings of the facility

narch

will be official later, but i've used my connections

1st team offense
roncketti, mc - qb
mulford, fc; wilson, au - rb
hughley, au; lowe, gc - wr
frates, su - fb
delapp, mc - ol and 2 from fc, 2 from cnu (sorry, didn't catch the names, but the release will)

1st team defense
greene, gc; jones; northern, mc; townsend, mvc; williams, cnu - dl
moore, au; morse, wood and freeman, cnu - lb's
boyd, au; p. ford, fc; long & rodriguez, cnu - db's

hughley, au - rs
larkin, mc - pk
murphy, fc - p

roncketti, mc - opoty
rodriguez, cnu - dpoty
lowe, gc - oroty
spellman, ncwc - droty
davis, fc - coty

2nd team offense
pitts, fc - qb
hill, mc; williams, ncwc - rb
hawkins, fc - fb
jackson, mvc; davis, cnu - wr
lawson, au - te
breen & dinges, mc and 2 from su, 1 from au (once again, missed the names...sorry) - ol

2nd team defense
jackson & mcconaghy, au; parker, cnu; spellman, ncwc; 1 from su (missed the name again) - dl
pope & lawrence, mc; jordan, (?), and one other (missed school and name there...sorry) - lb's
collier, gauntlett & shuford, mc; parker, au - db's

rodriguez, cnu - rs
ashcraft, au - pk
barkus, cnu - p

my comments:
2 1st team ol from cnu is TOO many for a team that ranked 4th in scoring offense, 5th in total offense and 4th in yards/play and gave up 22 sacks...there should have been one more monarch - 2 second team ol from su is just not right, either...they were BY FAR the most inept offense i saw all season and in the last few years, and they returned some talented rb's...you've gotta think there were problems up front for that team to get so bad offensively, and i can't imagine them having 2 of the top 10 ol in the conference (particularly when mc and fc have only 3 and 2, respectively and were better offensively by leaps and bounds)

3 1st team lb's from cnu is also too many - they are good, but i didn't think any of them were better than pope or lawrence - pope should have replaced freeman on the first team

choosing 5 dl on each team is out of control...no need to choose that many, in my opinion

jackson (mvc wr) got robbed - he was a SURE FIRE 1st teamer, in my book - ypc, yards and td's were all FAR SUPERIOR to lowe

i'm a little surprised to see 3 monarch db's on the 2nd team - they're all very talented, and shuford and collier are freshman, but all 3 making the team is surprising

cnu had 8 first teamers, yet finished 4th in the conference...the 3 teams ahead of cnu in the standings had a total of 13 (including special teamers)

i didn't get the hon mention team, but as soon as the release is put on the usasac website, we'll see them
