Captain Crunch

forget about the Texas boys...I'm glad that Methodist is finally coming back to BAD NEWZ.  Don't get me wrong, as a player I enjoyed traveling to "Fayettenam".  The women of Monarch country sure do know how to treat a visitor.  Next year the Captains will be sure to return a favor.

Me and the Captains, makin' it happen.

Thats ok narch, we like it when you b***h and moan about all-conference players. I love it when your all fired up. Justin Wood is special tho, you cant deny that accolades that kid is going to get this year.

narch

goose - i like to call it criticizing and voicing an opinion, but you can call it what you want...mostly i'm trying to invoke intelligent football conversation, but that's useless sometimes :) - at least i'm an equal opportunity moaner...i spoke up for players from other teams and expressed surprise at a few picks from mc that were higher than i expected...not to mention that i think hilliard should have been put ahead of williams based on his performance in conference games (you know i have a thing about using conference-only stats) - wood did not look special against mc...he looked like the 4th best lb on the field, to me (behind pope, morse & lawrence) - he had just 1 solo tackle and 6 assists, and if memory serves me correct, at least 4 of those tackles were 5+ yards downfield - i watched him closely because i met a member of his family prior to the game...really enjoyed talking to them, so i paid a bit of extra attention...wasn't overly impressed - i do remember being very impressed with him last year, but this is the 2005 all-conference team, not the 2004 all-conference team

I hear ya narch and I think you give some great insights on things but you cant tell me that one game makes a kid's entire season, you of all people have to agree with that.

mc55ol

Narch, you can always count on Coach Funderburk to have th oline ready to play. Its good to see some of the MC guys get some all conf spots. You were right about Woods not having his best game againt MC this yr, but the kid can play some football, and its hard for him to get tackles when the ball is flying down the field.

Rocket....hope things are going good, and maybe ill get another shot to play some football with you in March? We can still call it football even though its on a 50 yrd field right?!?!

Swish3

Way to salvage a disappointing season by smokin' the Panthers, CNU!  Thanks for all the memories, seniors!

I wish Ferrum luck tomorrow, but I'm thinking they'll get pasted....welcome to the playoffs.

If you're going to continue to be the resident english professor, narch, you better hope and pray that Antonio "Sharpie" Wilkerson doesn't decide to grace the board with his advanced ghetto vernacular.  :D

GO CAPS!

low, low blow....and really...why ??? - is it because you are completely embarassed by the way captains players/former players represent themselves on this board and you feel the need to belittle mc with something that ALLEGEDLY happened over 4 years ago? - admittedly, wilkerson wasn't the best writer...but he was no worse than what i've read from cnu players/former players, particularly this summer - mc has moved past the alleged "sharpie" situation with grace, class and dignity...maybe you should, too

that alleged incident may have been the best thing to happen to the mc football program - those that are in and associated with the program know what it did to galvanize this team - i also know that there was a renewed dedication to recruiting a good "4 year fit" for the monarch coaching staff, and i think the results are showing up on the field

besides, reading the way rocket and admiralpapi and mc55ol write gives me faith that wilk was the exception rather than the rule...can you say the same about the cnu players/former players?

Allen C

Well tomorrow is Ferrum's first game of the rest of the season. I guess there are not many picking the Panthers, but I am going to. I know that there pass defense is suspect, but I am planning that there will be at least 1 upset in the first round, and this will be it. OK...I am biased but you cant go against your favorite team. How are the home field sites determined for the second round?
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

allen - glad to see you're still around - i was beginning to think that you had abandoned ship - sorry there wasn't more talk about ferrum this week...all-conference dominated my thoughts/posts - will you be going to the game? -  i've heard wesley has really upgraded their facilities to the point that they're pretty nice - i posted this under the south region playoffs - i'm going to try and branch out beyond the usasac and predict some games in this region...here goes:

trinity 31 - umhb 28 (ot) - this should be a regional final

thiel 24 - jhu 10 - both teams have solid defenses, but thiel has more offense

w&j 41 - b'water 38 - both teams have great offenses, but b'water has struggled against the pass some, and w&j throws it a lot - along with the texas game, these 2 games could be among the best of the weekend

wesley 38 - ferrum 17 - this is not the result that i WANT as a usasac fan, but it's what i think will happen - i know ferrum fans will say "fc can score 24 on anybody", but they didn't against cnu last weekend - ferrum defense is suspect to the pass and wesley has big, fast, physical receivers and they run just enough to keep you honest and guessing - wesley is also very stout against the run, and ferrum can't throw it when they NEED to (they are effective if they throw when it's not expected) - pitts is an exciting option qb, though, and he could single-handedly keep the panthers in the game

Wood Named To Play In 2005 Aztec Bowl

WACO, TX - Christopher Newport senior linebacker Justin Wood will play for the American Football Coaches Association's Division III all-star game, the 2005 Aztec Bowl, on December 17 in Toluca, Mexico.

Wood becomes the second CNU football player to play in the Aztec Bowl, joining Tommy Fitzgerald, who played in last season's all-star game.

Wood, a senior from Hampton, VA, led the Captains in total tackles for the fourth straight season. He finished with 91 in 2005, including eight for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He was also a First Team All-USA South selection for the third consecutive season in 2005.

He is one of 46 NCAA Division III seniors from around the country who will make up this year's team. The game will kick off at 2 pm on December 17 at Estadio Chivo Cordoba in Toluca.

Captain Crunch

Maybe there is another Captain tradition in the making.  Love him or hate him, now Justin Wood can serve his country in his own way like his brother. :)
Me and the Captains, makin' it happen.

Sorry guys about the Cut/Paste, I'm just a little to lazy and about outa time for today.  I am very proud of the Panthers and thought I would give em a shout out!

Panther fans, RESPECT RESPECT AND MORE RESPECT is what you all have been crying for all year.  Well tomorrow is your day to show what you are worth. There are 250  plus D3 football teams and only 32 of them will be playing tomorrow. Talk about  top 25, well this is supposed to be the best 32. The only way to savor a 9-1 season now is to at least win a few games in the playoffs. After a 44-7 loss last week, you guys really would not to end your season on a 2 game skid. Make the USA South proud and if this makes things any better for you guys. The last time you guys beat us before we went to the playoffs we ended up winning our first playoff game.

Good luck
