cnusfinest: I was never really a trash talker, I just did it more for fun. I figured if the other guy was worried about getting me back their mind wouldnt be on the game. You have one thing right though, I thought we had your number in 04. I am just proud of where this conf is going. Its good to see different teams getting national attention.

You are starting to sound like Wilbur Sasser......a seasoned oldtimer.....good post coach
Never shall I leave a fallen comrade

MCol51

I on the other hand did talk a little smack in games, but never something i could not back up on the field. if memory serves me correct though MC55, you talked a little junk too, hahaha. we both did when u played beside me.

congrats to the panthers for getting the nod to the playoffs, but sucks you guys lost in the first round, i thought you guys could go a little further, but wesley is a good team, so hold your head high, and prepare for the next season. you guys have a lot of talent returning next year, should be another good year for you all.

I have really enjoyed this year playing, not a bad way to go out and finish your career. congrats to delapp for getting the nod to play in the north vs. south game. I enjoyed reading the posts this year it makes the game a lot more enjoyable to see people talkin football instead of talkin so much trash. No idea why the trash talk between mosh and finest, neither one of you guys play anymore so you cant really settle it on the field, an no matter what you couldnt anyways, you both played defense!

MC55, you goin to head back up to play another year for the guard? if so let me now ill make it to a couple of games before i graduate. Asheville is getting a AIFL team next year i thought i might try out there since it is back home and all, dont know though. there comes a time when you know its done, so i might just start coaching, hell i learned from the best o-line coach in the land! alright buddy get back to me.

Narch, who you think will win the championship this year, your the one good with stats an all the info, lol. Just trying to see if we can get some more football talk goin on this board.

How many big games against good teams have they dominated in the past few years. You talk about them only giving up 9 sacks, then in my book they should have been able to pass over everyone because the Rocket had great pass pro. Then you state from time to time that their running game is very effective but yet in the last few years they have not dominated big games with the run. Ex. If MC got extremely conservative up 35-14 against CNU, I don't see any reason why behind a dominate pass pro oline and effective run blocking team could not find some way to back into the endzone.

finest - glad to bring this back to football conversation...let me ask you, which o-line or o-lines do you consider the best in the usasac? how about the best defense or d-line?

to answer your question, here is how mc fared against the top defenses (statistically) in the usasac this year:

cnu - ranked #1 against the run - mc ran for 157 and a 4.2 ypc avg
fc - ranked #2 against run - mc ran for 128 and 4.0 ypc without hill
su - ranked #4 against run - mc ran for 174 and 4.5 ypc

mc avg 153 ypg vs. teams that avg allowing 151 ypg=+2 ypg

cnu - #1 against pass - mc passed for 323 and 16.1 yd/comp
gc - #2 against pass - mc passed for 188, 13.4 yd/comp
au - #3 against pass - mc passed for 180, 13.8 yd/comp

mc avg 230 ypg vs. teams that avg allowing 170 ypg=+60 ypg

to contrast, here is what cnu did vs. top rated run/pass defenses:

fc #2 vs. run - cnu rushed for 233, 5.2 ypc
mc #3 vs. run - cnu rushed for 127, 3.8 ypc
su #4 vs. run - cnu rushed for 179, 4.8 ypc

cnu avg 179 ypg vs. teams that avg allowing 164 ypg=+15 ypg

gc #2 vs. pass - cnu passed for 124, 9.5 yd/comp
au #3 vs. pass - cnu passed for 120, 8.6 yd/comp
su #4 vs. pass - cnu passed for 56, 18.5 yd/comp

cnu avg 100 ypg vs. teams that avg allowing 176 ypg=-76 ypg

obviously there is more that goes into both of these numbers than JUST the lines (qb's, wr's, rb's), but success on both sides of the ball STARTS with the line, in my opinion - mc certainly fared much better against good defenses than did cnu, yet cnu had 2 first team all-conference o-lineman

against the BEST defense in the conference, the monarchs ran AND threw very effectively against a team that had EIGHT all conference defenders (6 first-teamers)

mc ranked #1 or #2 in EVERY major offensive statistic except time of posession - in conference games, they gave up just 3 sacks in 186 pass attempts while ferrum led the conference allowing just 2 in 67 pass attempts...every other team had 10+ sacks allowed - mc had fewer pass attempts than 5 teams in conference play, yet had almost 200 yards more than any other team, which means the o-line was giving rocket time to get the ball down field for big gains

you know as well as i do that play calling gets VERY different when a team is up 21 points in the second half - i was the first to credit the cnu defense and coaching staff for making good adjustments, and i did so on this very board, but let's be honest...the monarchs only threw the ball 7 or 8 times in the second half - it's MUCH easier to defend the run when you know it's coming, and cnu was stacking 8 and 9 in the box to stop it - mc didn't throw against that defense because they were playing SMART football, protecting a lead, and bleeding clock...it really is all about winning and losing, not putting up gaudy numbers

narch

mcol51 - i'm going out on a limb and predicting linfield will win a 2nd straight national championship :) - they are just NASTY offensively and very solid defensively - one of my "final four" teams, trinity, has already been knocked out, but i thought the most difficult game in the region for them would be against umhb...guess i was right, since it was their only game :)

cnu85

Narch,

good stuff as always...just wondering....do you have a girlfriend? TV? Friends? a dog? do you take time out from the stats research to do your laundry? LOL - just my way of saying you do a good job!!

MCol51

good choice on that one. they do have a pretty good team this year, some of the guys say ti is better than last years team because of the experience. Could they be the next Mount union and start a tradition of winning the big dance? who knows.

It is still in my thoughts though how we would have faired against wesley. I mean no disrespect to ferrum, but we had a more balanced offense. Oh well, its just wishful thinking, however i think we would have been a good matchup.

let's see...HOT wife (i really married up...anyone who knows me and she will vouch for that!) and 2 beautiful kids, a 36" tv (with nfl sunday ticket, 7 speaker surround, progressive scan dvd, ps2 and tivo), a few friends (most of whom are coaches), no pets, the usasac website has all of the stats...i just compile them, and the wife does laundry (i cook and do most of the cleaning...can't stand laundry or dishes, though) - thanks...i'm kind of a stats geek :)

I think this will give you my opinion on how good I think the defenses where in the USA South this year.

Looking at the offensive stats you would say that offense was really good in our conf this year. But it was plan to see from today's result that Ferrum's offense feed off of weak defenses this year and no other team this year played a really good defense to give us something to debate in my opinion.

Sometimes stats are very deceiving because CNU blew out Maryville who almost beat MC, then CNU blew out FC who beat MC, then MC almost lost to AU who led CNU the whole game and so on and so on. I don't know who should have been selected all Conf this year but you can't say CNU players where just selected by the coaches because they won the Conf. after all Narch they were the 4th place team.  ;D ;)

GCman82

GC hoops 2-0,

tough loss ferrum, congrats on a great year.

Mcol51: Ok ok so i talked a lill trash, but never more than most......I just did my best to play untill the whistle. I am going to come back and play for the Guard again, had looked at some other places, but I think I am going to stick around. And about the coaching thing, man its harder than it looks!!!!!

Narch: Now you are a number cruncher my friend! HAHA i got tired of just reading your post!

Abnrgr: Now if I can just win as many games as Wilber Sasser did, then I would have something going.

Lighten up, fellas.  I could give a damn about the sharpie incident, but I wanted to remind narch that EVERY team has players that may choose to mouth off via this forum and care less about grammar, sentence structure, spelling and so on.  While I agree that such posts are less than desirable, it doesn't give narch the right to take repeated jabs at CNU's quality of education.

GO CAPS!

moshergc9

I think Wesley will win it all.

And I think I was the greatest football player to ever live, But I didnt tell anyone when I was playing.

The end

if you "could give a damn about the sharpie incident", then why bring it up ???...the example would have been just as relevant without it...i would have seen your point and given you a simple "touche" - i suspect you felt a bit ashamed of the way some cnu graduates and current students have represented themselves and your university, and you are probably a little frustrated and bitter that the football team fell to being the 4th place team in the conference - maybe that shame, frustration and bitterness caused you to lash out and make a statement based on a few headlines that you read, and not the actual facts of the situation

i've said this REPEATEDLY, but i'll say it again...i wouldn't bring up ANYTHING about "grammar" (actually it's the mis-use of the words then & than that gets me, typically) if cnu fans didn't constantly cite superior academic requirements as an equalizing factor whenever the private v. public issue comes up...if you (cnu fans) are going to talk about how academically superior your institution is and how much more difficult it is to gain admission to, then you're going to have to live with some backlash when the posts don't back that claim up

narch

mosh - wesley is nasty, but i think they'll have a hard time getting out of texas - i do think they match up well with umhb, though - umhb likes to run the ball, much like ferrum, and if wesley can get a lead early, they've got a shot - the biggest difference i can see between umhb and fc is the defense - wesley will have a much more difficult time moving the ball against the crusaders than they did against the panthers - it also looks like umhb gets pretty solid special teams play, which did ferrum in this past weekend - it would be nice to see a team which most of our schools play/played regularly make some serious noise in the playoffs now that the usasac team is out of it
