ive been hearing uncp plans to stay independent then just move to DIAA like presbytarian is doing (moving to big south).
If Presbyterian goes DI-AA and moves to the Big South, then that opens a spot in the SAC.  Anyone want to bet whether Brevard takes that SAC berth after the Blue Hose leave?

I thinks that's great for kids in NC having The Camels and even Pembrook with programs. There are load of kids at the dreaded BC Eagles sitting the bench that could go down there and start.  More fodder (hopefully) for GC-Q (until those schools get on their feet).
Yeah, some kids decide to go to college because they get a chance to suit up for four more years.  Win or lose, I personally think having a football team adds a lot to the college atmosphere - you can feel it in the air on game day!   Hey BC kids, listen to your ol' pal abnrgr - go somewhere you can play now!  lol   Speaking of GC-Q, they've always had a fair number of players from some parts of eastern NC (Pitt County, Rosewood, Columbus Co. New Brunswick Co., Wallace-Rose Hill).  Sometimes I know it's because we have alumni coaching there, but hey, you use every "in" you can get -right?

'nova - i think uncp will play as a d2 independent, at least initially - i can't really think of where they might fit -
If UNC-P plays a few years as an independent, don't rule out the Big South if the Braves move up to I-AA.  I could see them having a great rivalry with teams such as Coastal Carolina (right across the state line in Conway, SC) and Gardner-Webb (since they are currently the only Big South football member from NC).  Right now, the Big South (for football) only has 5 members - if Presbyterian makes the switch, that's six, but I see the league needing seven teams to be truly viable.

i think that chowan would be eligible to join the sac first since they will be eligible to join a conference first.  im pretty sure brevard is DII but what is this DII naia appalachian league???
Can I have ten thousand marbles please.....

The NAIA has two divisions - I & II - with separate championships & some differences in scholarships, etc.  The Appalachian Athletic Conference is NAIA DII & currently has no championship for football since there are only three teams - Union (KY), UVA-Wise and Brevard (NC) - & they're in other leagues for football only.  The other AAC members are Bluefield (VA), Bryan (TN), Covenant (TN), King (TN), Milligan (TN), Montreat (NC), Tennessee Wesleyan, & Virginia Intermont.

Hey Narch, Have you seen any more of the monarch's spring practice sessions?  If so how is the qb position looking?  how are the receivers (wr&te) looking? thanks

narch

sorry...i just don't see uncp going d1aa...they can't even compete in the pbac (admittedly a difficult league) in any sport other than soccer (and the monarchs beat uncp 3-1 a few years ago when uncp was ranked 4th in the country in d2) - i'd be willing to bet that uncp stays d2...as for the independent status...i don't know - it will be a tough go - there would be less uproar about private/public in the sac than there is in the usasac, because there are athletic $$'s to even the playing field somewhat - i can see the ciaa happening before i can see the sac, happening, though

fbjoe - i've seen a little more of practice since my last post, but not enough to make a real analysis other than what we already know

According the SAC website, they've already admitted Lincoln Memorial University (TN) for the 2006-07 season.

cnu85 - you are very naive...that kid could end up at almost any d3, including some schools you wouldn't imagine he would get into based on academic reputation

Details Narch.....help me become "un-niaive".  There seems to be some doubt from his coach as to getting in anywhere and thus going to Hargrave.

moshergc9

Clairify, He is worried about not getting into the D1's (because they all want to play d1)  I think most d3's could sneak him in.

I would expect North Greenville to be the next SAC member.  They just built a brand new stadium and are getting better each year.

I don't know too much about North Greenville College other than where they are, but I'll have to say they would be a good geographic fit for the SAC.

Hasanova,

I played at North Greenville back they were the pits.  They aren't anything spectacular right now, but they have improved drastically since I left (I hope this is just a coincidence...lol).  They have recently built a very nice 5,000 seat stadium and have recently started playing more SAC schools.  Yes, geographically they are great fit and their school's background fits in pretty well also (small, private christian school).  I know the idea of adding North Greenville has been talked about and, from what I have heard, one of the MAJOR reasons for building the stadium was to get on track with the rest of the SAC schools (Tusculum, Presby and Carson Newman have all recently built new or upgraded stadiums).   But, it looks like Brevard is also trying to get noticed as well by playing a few SAC schools this year.  They would also be a good fit for the SAC.
