Heard todays media day was eight coaches posturing and talking and saying NOTHING. whats the real scoop guys?

Papi
I know GC-Q did it in 2003. They picked out my kid. He had to urinate. I guess that was an NCAA check?

They pick out a couple of guys a year it sounds like to me. I do not know for sure the frequency of it.

They called me from the stands and I had to piss.  Those were state troopers I think.  ;)

I know Skoal has pissed more than once. heh

papi - i know you said you used to run the option, but the few times i saw you tuck it and run while at mc...well, let's just say you could have used a little more caffeine - that being said, i sure would like it if you had another year of eligibility :)

obnoxious - here's some juice - the monarchs will be replacing one of the best qb's in the history of the conference this fall...i'm hearing there is a frosh who is already in summer school that could push the returners and make it a 3-way battle...we'll see in a few weeks - don'tcha love this time of year :)

I think I saw Papi tuck a couple times and that black hat got him. ;)

I asked the ncaa to tell me what schools in D-III test.  The anwser I got was this.  (An expected anwser because one will ever get the anwser one wants.)

The NCAA tests at championships in all three NCAA divisions.  NCAA
championship drug testing includes tests for steroids, masking agents,
diuretics, stimulants, peptide hormones and analogues, and street drugs.

Schools and conferences may also conduct their own testing, separate
from what the NCAA does, and what they test for is up to them.

abnrgr-
GC-Q had their own policy then.

NCAA doesn't test D-III year round it is up to the school to put in their own policy in place.  It still doesn't anwser my question of which schools test in NCAA to those that don't at the D-III level.  In my opinion they should test every level year round.

Hola ...Pride Alum...my first post...and a question...

One of my classmates says he hears that the admin is pondering a move upward into D2 within the next 3-5 years. This is a persistant rumor because I heard it last year. I find it kind of interesting that we kick off the season with D2 S.A.C. member Mars Hill.

Could we be headed to the S.A.C.? That conference itself is facing some upheaval with the departure of Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) for D-1AA's Big South Conference in 2007. Besides Mars Hill other members of the S.A.C. are Carson Newman (near Knox. TN), Catawba (Salisbury, NC), Wingate (Wingate, NC), Lenoir Rhyne (Hickory, NC), Newberry (Newberry SC) and Tusculum (east TN)

Considering the cost involved with football scholarships in D2 and upgrades in equipment, stadium and added personel would the change benefit us?

It is also interesting to note that 3 new football program startups will commence with the 2007 year in NC and none are D3. They are Campbell, UNC-Pembroke and Brevard. This fact alone gives reason to consider the rumor as reliable since our selection of opponents is already very limited and liable to decrease rather than increase.

[...] a move upward into D2 [...]

We Division III fans like to say "a move downward." :)

Stillhot4Farah - Moving to DII is a big commitment - in money, scholarships, facilities, personnel, travel.  Personally, as relatively small as the school currently is, I don't see how such a move would benefit the Pride that much.  Besides, they are not being overly successful right now with winning at the DIII level - DII will be even tougher.  Maybe, however, the administration has a Master Plan for overall growth of which I am not aware.

The other NC schools you mentioned, Campbell, UNC-P and Brevard, are starting football, but I think they'll be at a DIII competitive level for a while.  I know the Camels are going DI-AA non-scholarship, which makes them on a par with many DIII programs.  UNC-P seems to aiming at DII, with options to be an independent, join the SAC or join the CIAA.  The BC Tornados are going from the NAIA to DII provisional, but it takes a while to ramp up.  I wouldn't be surprised if they apply to the SAC (it's their best geographic fit), although Lincoln Memorial in Tennessee has already joined to fill the void left by Presbyterian.

In DC, AL, VA, NC, SC, GA and TN, there are about 20 DIII football programs plus Davidson (also DI-AA non-scholarship), Campbell, Chowan and UNC-P.  Looks like an adequate number of scheduling options to me.  Besides, if you're in a conference with 7 annual opponents, you only need 3 other games a year and Guilford is always one of those. I might add, an annual game with Guilford has the added bonus of no real travel costs.  Your team bus can go to Guilford College as easily as it can go to Jameson Stadium for a home game.

Maybe Greensboro's thinking in the DII direction, but I just don't see it.

I am a current student at GC-Pride.  I can't see how they would be moving up, they need to show that they are a force and I hope they will be. The only school in this conference I think can move up is CNU.  They have some of the best facilities in conference.  GC will surely have the facilities once that new athletic field is built.  The only plan of that anywhere is in the schools main building.  RUMORS is all it is.  Maybe they are moving up, but RUMORS get spread all the time.  Like how we interviewed Bobby Cremins to coach basketball a couple years ago.

IMO - It's all about the money. If they have the money or know how to get it, then they can consider D-II and it might be a good move, despite their recent lack of success (which I believe can change this year).

A good school with a supportive administration can build a good team pretty quickly with scholly money. But I haven't heard a peep about a move and they did lose their OC to an NAIA school in Tx.

Roll Pride ! ! ! !

We've heard those rumors at CNU. This was afew years ago.  Funny though, that nobody heard the Chowan rumor until after the conference gave them the boot (although maybe Pat and his gang had some insider knowledge).

Meanwhile - suit up, cross the white lines..and play some ball! Or in my case...wake up, drive a couple of miles, buy a hot dog and a pepsi and watch some young guys play some ball!

I heard a rumor that yesterday there was a media day for football haha.  I wasn't able to catch it.  I am very interested in hearing it.  Is there any school that has archived it yet.  I know last year it was taped.  I am sure obnoxioussufan is right

8 coaches talking and saying nothing, but a smart caoch doesn't give anything away.  Its the name of the game.

Media Day Comments:

Insert name of any coach: It's a competitive conference and getting tougher each year. Not much separates the top 4-5 teams in the league. As for our team, we have a good core of returning players. We hope to add some talent when practice opens, but it's difficult to know who will actually show up. We hope to be competitive but we have to take it one game at a time. We're excited about the upcoming season. If we can execute our game plans we should be ok. But that's why we play the game.

yada yada yada......
