Hey Im a former Pacific Lutheran (Northwest Conference) player working in North Carolina and I am missing some small college football. I am planning on going to the Mt. Union Avetrett game and was wondering what there is to do around Southern Virginia, Do you guys tailgate?, bars?? Anyways I figure it would be a great game to get the football year started with, plus I can do a little scouting for the Lutes. Ok they're having an off couple of years but at least it could be a fun game to watch. Any suggestions for going to the game??

The SU-CUA game, they did play the full 60 mins right.  Where was the offense (I love an offensive game) only 352 total yards in that game.  I was hoping for SU to win, and a little more out of both teams.  They haven't changed the offense have they.

Well, I grew up about 60 miles west of Danville in Patrick County, VA and, to be perfectly honest, south central Virginia is rarely mentioned in Fodor's "Must See" lists.  There is the Blue Ridge Parkway, but it's 60 miles west of Danville and Fairystone State Park is 40 miles northwest.  Sometimes they have music/food events around the Dan River in Danville, especially on a holiday weekend, but I can't think of any really noteworthy attractions or night life.  I think there is a tobacco museum of some sort, but maybe someone who's actually from Danville can give you some other tips.  It's a blue collar town, so don't expect too many frills.  Personally, if I were you, I'd head 45 miles south to Greensboro, NC and check out the new clubs, bars, microbreweries and restaurants that are flourishing in the Elm Street area of downtown.  With all five colleges/universities in the city cranked up about 10 days ago, there will be a lot of foot traffic and live music.   I'm not deliberately trying to sell Danville short, but I've been there many times and I just can't think of too many attractions.  Have a good time at the game and throughout the weekend.  Peace

There should be a really good crowd at Averett and, yes, we do tailgate.  That would a great option for tomorrow!

I don't know about Averett, but there should be plenty of Mount Union fans there and they have great tailgates.  They also have a great brand of football.
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Good luck Cougars!!

Mt. Union has more national titles than years that Averett has fielded a football team.

Averett has come a long way from playing Galludet and Newport Apprentice for openers. Yikes. And another top 5 team next week!

The whole league will just keep getting better and better.

Great win for the Quakers over Ferrum, 49-35, on a sunny 80-degree day in Greensboro.  I don't have official stats, but QB Vogelbach set a new Guilford record with 6 TD passes (4 in the first half).  He had about 5 balls dropped today and only had one Interception. To be honest, the score should not have been that close.  Guilford led 35-7 at the half, should have gone up 42-7 on dropped TD passes and then there was a momentum shift in the 3rd.  Guilford rebounded in the 4th to go up 49-28 and then gave up a meaningless TD to Ferrum with 16 seconds to go for the final score.  In my opinion, it could (should?) have been about 56-21 because the Guilford receivers dropped 3 sure TD passes on one drive in the 3rd Quarter and Ferrum got a gift on two of their scores.  On one series, GC punter Travis Frazier took a low snap and the refs ruled his knee touched on the 21.  FC capitalized by throwing a TD up the middle on the next play.  I have personally not seen that happen in a long time - maybe in HS.

Honestly, Guilford had Ferrum pinned back almost all day, especially in the first half and the Quakers seemed to score at will in the first 30 minutes.  The lone first half score for the Panthers was a 74 yard run up the left side by QB Jermaine Pitts.  Most of Guilford's first half possessions started between the 45's and at least three times Guilford punts or kickoffs pinned FC around the 1 or 2 yard line.

Guilford had (I think) nearly 90 yards rushing out of the FB position and, believe it or not, seems to have some offensive balance despite the 6 passing TDs (the other was a rushing TD by the FB on a short and goal).  I know it's early, but other than QB Pitts, I don't think FC is as good as they were last year.  By the way, this is a 48-point swing from last year's 41-7 drubbing on opening day at Ferrum.

Go Quakers!  Great win today.

I was at Rowan/CNU today...a few thoughts...

1.  Had CNU not made about 3 mistakes, it would have been 17-0.  Otherwise, CNU pulled out the shotgun and aimed directly at both their feet in the first four minutes of the game.  It was OVA.

2.  CNU's defense was actually pretty good - against a non-Rowan, they'll be solid.  (Should be read...next week should still be brutal).

3.  Bryant/Faison split time the whole game - Faison was clearly better, but that wasn't saying much.

4.  Weather only played a minor role in the game, in my opinion - Bryant's fumble early in the game which turned into a Rowan score.  Otherwise, the long snapper's blunders cost CNU 9 points.
