The USASAC men only have 7 members.

Hey bud, check your facts before you post. Last time i checked we had 8.
CNU
Methodist
AU
SU
Ferrum
Gboro
NCWC
Maryville

let shenandoah leave if they don't like taking the beating everyone is giving them. But what does that tell the students there? IMO quitting is the easiest thing you will ever do. Leaving the conference is not trying to make your squad better and it doesnt fix anything.

As for ODU getting a team, yeah it will draw plenty of kids. But you have to understand that the peninsula and southside has so much talent we dont know what to do with it. Hampton teams seem to always win the state championships in football year after year. You think Hampton University doesnt take away from CNU already? how about Maryland even? we just had a denfensive end (Dean Muhtadi) leave CNU to go play there. Sure other schools pull from our recruiting pool but CNU has always found a way to win bottom line.

Maryville isnt a full-time member tho.

Goose, thanks.  You got my back! :)

Maryville is a football-only affiliate.  If someone left the USAC Men, then you would need to add a full-time member or affiliates to make the necessary 7 for the Pool A bid.

For all the undisclosed baggage that accompanied Chowan, they gave you a body to count towards the "7".  D3's in that part of the country are rare, and an aggressive expansion posture by the conference, as we have seen with the women, does strengthen the conference.

The USAC has several strong sports.  I believe that the USAC should continue to expand.  My personal interest would be to see the logical annexation/merger with the GSAC.  I believe that is the win/win.   :)

Im with ya Ralph, Im with ya!!

thanks for the slack...coming from you that means a lot

Quote from: D3Newbie on September 26, 2006, 05:17:00 PMOk, how about the "BIG 4" ? And I think some of the "BIG 4" will beat some of the other "BIG 4".  (even I'm not sure what that means . . . )
the monarchs aren't there right now...maybe by the end of the season

Quote from: D3Newbie on September 26, 2006, 05:17:00 PMHow about by 20? (Still hoping . . . .)
not a chance...it's got to be 40 plus :)

Quote from: D3Newbie on September 26, 2006, 05:17:00 PMand I guess I'll stop calling the Monarchs the flaming Queens . . . . deal?
the term monarch, as used by mc, refers to the king of the jungle...calling the monarchs the flaming queens makes no sense

Yeah and they've all come in women's golf too!!  ;)  ;D (easy kids, its a joke, no need to fly off the handle now!)

goose, not flying off the handle, just informing some of the others on this board who aren't as enlightened as you...only 19 of the monarchs 28 team championships have come in women's golf...the other 9 have come in men's golf (as did most of the monarchs 29 individual national championships) - the monarchs are anything but a one-horse show, however, as mc has had both soccer teams play in the national title game (in the same year, actually) along with the baseball team - additionally, the monarchs have had individual national championships in women's tennis - i don't know that any usasac school can boast of title appearances in 6 different sports - additionally, the monarchs have won both usasac men's presidents cup trophies (04-05 and 05-06) given to the overall best men's athletic program in the conference (although cnu has won the overall usasac president's cup for at least the last 7 years...maybe more) - the monarchs have also had the highest usasac finish in the national director's cup standings each year for at least the last 10 years (based largely upon the success of the golf teams, admittedly, but impressive still)

legacy - i know you're relatively new to the conference and these boards, but there has clearly been an outcry for cnu to leave the usasac - for the record, i've never advocated this, but i do think that cnu has certain undeniable recruiting advantages as a public school, with public funding - in the past many cnu fans have turned a blind eye and denied these advantages....but i don't want to beat a horse that died MANY years ago - overall, cnu is good for this conference, and i, for one, hope they remain in the usasac forever

ralph - just wondering...do you have information that leads you to believe that su is leaving the conference...you seem to push the gsac/usasac merger idea at any opening...is there something we should all know?

Over the lifetime of the schools associated with this conference Methodist is tops because they are 7th in D3 with National Championships won.

AND....Give me some credit.  I actually said Methodist College was the best in the conference

Oh, I'm well aware of the history and biases against CNU. I remember these topics being beaten to death in the past (back when I was a troller and not a poster here). My basic reaction to the recent posts was: Why has this topic surfaced.....again? And I think the answer lies in the fact that there are some fledging CNU viewpoints here and that there was some misreading (or overreading) into some things that had been said. Some of the defensiveness, I think, was misdirected -- and just got to be a little much.

I, like you, narch, have no desire to see CNU leave.

The public-private argument is something that should come up in the off-season (if at all), when there's nothing else to talk about. Right now, we have real games, real stats and real standings to discuss!  ;)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Again narch, it was a freakin joke. I know you've had more national championships in other sports than womens golf, damn, Ive now officially been informed and I cant thank you enough for that Monarch Athletics history lesson.

PrideSportBBallGuy

Goose-

I just agreed with what narch had to said.

Do I really care if CNU leaves or not.  No I don't, I am an optimistic person.  I want everyone to do well. If moving up benefits them by all means do it.

Like.....Greensboro is in first place in the conference  ;)

PrideSportBBallGuy

Hear me out ok.  I am just trying to keep this board active ;D.  You all are lucky it's football season.  This is the only reason why you all are hearing/reading it here.  Greensboro has the best across the conference players in every sport.

POY Award's Won

GC 7 out 17 (Baseball has pitcher, and player of year.  Softball the same way. Football offense and defense. So it really is 14 sports.)

Methodist 6

CNU 3

NCWC 1

Again, I am trying to keep this board talking.  Now give Greensboro Athletics a chance. ;D :D ;)

No I do not. I am just looking at what is happening in the mid-Atlantic seaboard.  I have followed the amalgamation of disparate teams into the NEAC, which seems to be the beginning of these changes in the conferences.

We have seen so many changes that keep expecting more changes and I don't want to see student-athletes hurt by these changes.

Fisk left the GSAC.
Birmingham-Southern moves up to D3 this year.
UDallas left the ASC-East in 2001.
Austin College left the ASC-East this year (and killed the possible split of the ASC into 2 conferences, because we did not have enough teams to split.)  Reputable authorities have told me that you need 10 teams in a conference to decrease the vulnerablilty to teams leaving said conference.
In the South Region, we have had a lot of movement.

I want to see teams find D3 opponents. Maybe now Millsaps will be able to find 9-10 D3 opponents per season with 8 SCAC games plus a Miss. College and maybe a LaGrange/Huntingdon.  (Millsaps is playing a D2 team Saturday that may beat them by 35 points.)  Rowan in the NJAC can use a few; maybe the NJAC will add Brockport and Morrisville.  Huntingdon and LaGrange need a full schedule and I think that the USAC is the right choice for them.  (The ASC is just too far West and they are not getting invites to join the SCAC which will have 9-football playing members.)

WCLegacy has a good point. I will defer to the off-season, when I expect the next round of moves to be announced, after the Fall Board meetings on the various campuses.  Thanks.

ok, so now i am tired of hearing people wanting CNU out of this conference or not out of the conference. If they want to leave to it will be up to their president and AD to make that decision.

PAPI-I agree whole heartedly with you. CNU joining this conference has made everyone step up and play. Take methodist for example, we had never beaten CNU, which was a little intimidating when you suit up to play on saturday, and we never stayed or hung in the game with them either. Until last year, we came out and put up 35 on them in the first half, and our defense held tough to come away with the win. I think with the arrival of CNU into this conference, it has made everyone better. I think the thing with CNU is the fact that they are a state school, it only costs 8,000 to go there, whereas a kid looks at methodist or somewhere like that, its 28,000. It is not rocket science to choose which one goes where.

Narch- whats your opinion on this parks kid for QB. Some of the guys said he came into the game last week against wesleyan on second down. Hnaded the ball off, then everyone thought he was going to do it again, but he stepped up in the pocket, took a hit, and roped one to the wideout for the first down. Sounds like he is pretty mature to be a freshman if you ask me. I think there is more competition there than we realize. I would almost like to see bartee go to a slot or wideout reciever next year and use his moves that way, and let this parks kid throw some ropes to em like PAPI used to do? lol.

The Dixie/USAC has a historically been a mixed conference. UMC-Charlotte was a charter member.

Narch
What is the call this weekend? MC or EH

here are all of my calls for this weekend:

averett 45 - ferrum 42 - should be a barn burner and an exciting game, but the cougars will nip the panthers

guilford 38 - gc 24 - too much vogelbach for the lady lions

cnu 31 - su 6 - captains find a way to win big in shentel

ncwc 17 - m'ville 13 - bishops get the "w" to stay perfect in conference

mc  27 - ehc 20 - the wasps aren't ready yet, and the monarchs aren't ready to write off the season

mcol51 - i really thought that parks would win the job outright in camp - he's got a good size/mobility combo and i've heard some of the same things you have about his arm - the coaches have decided bartee is the guy, though, and that's good enough for me - he throws a really nice deep ball and he's almost as athletic as the rocket was - i'm not worried about the qb position...yet - i think bartee has some huge shoes to fill, and all he needs to do is manage the offense, cut down on the turnovers and get the ball to playmakers like hill, sands, doleman, mularski and co. - things will come around, and this weekend might be a good weekend for the turnaround to happen

PrideSportBBallGuy

Narch- Maryville will win this saturday.  They are releasing the new logo on Saturday.

NCWC released the new logo this year and they are playing well.  They beat Methodist last week with that new logo  ;)
