Everyone made good points.  FC and MC both lost to Guilford in regulation.  It took two OTs to beat Greensboro.  I think GC had an off day offensively.  Just not able to pass the ball. Its not easy to chuck a ball down the field when it is pouring like it did today.  Grant it when the rain let up GC showed flashes of what they could do.  CNU also played better. (Putting up 21 pts)  That why I have said rain is a great neutralizer  CNU's offense got it done when it needed.  GC played Maryville had a 16-0 lead at halftime.  Blew the lead and had the poise to come back and win it in OT.  Disciplined enough.  I am not convinced CNU is top 25 team, because the lack of a productive drive when they have poor field position.  Look at the games.  Yet they are still the best team in the conference. I know what what a top 25 team doesn't look like.  AU.  Defense needs to step it up.

Legacy-I thought AU was the favorite ;)

The conference has me baffled this year.
Ferrum to start 1-2 is a shcoker to me. They'll start pounding folks soon.
Maryville seems to be tough with the only loss to GC in overtime. CNU better have it together next week.
AU scares me...scared me the past 2 years.....they're good.
Methodist - I thought they would have a win under their belt right now.
UNCW - seems to be spotty....could beat anybody on a given day. Dangerous.
SU - about as expected.
GC - I thought was a much improved team but today reminded me otherwise...see notes above about coaching.
After a few weeks of conference play here's how I see it....
CNU a favorite to win it, but has played the 2 poorest teams in the conference. Maryville, AU, FC still to play and UNCW can be dangerous.
AU is distancing itself from rest.
Maryville, FC are right there with Methodist appearing to either be a half step behind or about to collapse......a lot fo close losses can demoralize a team. I think they'll rebound. Not real sure where to categorize UNCW.
GC and SU - bringing up the rear.

I think this is a pretty solid analysis. The conference can swing a lot of ways right now, but it does seem pretty clear that CNU and AU are the two standouts.

While Maryville has been showing signs of life, Greensboro, Ferrum and Methodist are looking like middle-of-the-pack teams. Maryville is really making a run of things, though. They could creep up into third this year. And with Wesleyan, who knows that Coach Ginn has going on over there. Some days they're on, others, they're way off.

Because of the many stumbles during the off-season, it's been pretty tough to gauge how these teams were to stack up against one another.

CNU is still the favorite, I think, though I'm still expecting a very good came to emerge on Nov. 4 when Averett comes to Newport News. That's the conference title game, no doubt.

I agree with you that will be the title game but the Cougars will come away with the victory in that game. And it is like you said dont count out the Scotts they are going to be right there in the mix as well

Hey 85,

What are you thinking that GC is one of the worest teams in the conference. Where do you get that from? I mean we are alot better then we looked today I mean come on now.

I get it from a few things......

1. today's game
2. the previous posts from the past 2 years when I mention lack of discipline
3. GC has never had a winning season
1-9; 2-8. 3-7 the past 3 years.....last .500 team was in 2001.
4. GC looked like they had some good athletes.....now they need coaches

Eh-You

And since we're on a message board: I've walked on the moon, I'm in 2 hall of fames, I've killed a lion with my bare hands, blah, blah, blah, blah. The people who we all know have actually been around football have voted CNU #21. I'll take that group over a couple of fans that are mad because the team they follow can't back up the stupid predictions they make.
To all newbies - don't run your mouth until the team you're pulling for wins the big game. (please refer to Eh-You's karma for more details)

yepper  - CNU is a top 25 team.....If they could put together more sustained drives like everyone says....they'd be top 10! The D is THAT good......even against 3rd ranked Rowan the D only gave up 17. If the CNU Offense was as good as the D......YIKES!!! Scary good!

As for the Bridgewater fans...CNU is in their 6th year of existence in football.  Was Bridgewater competing in the playoffs their first 4 years?  And one of you two 'bright' beings stated about CNU fans looking at BC's schedule but you are on our conference's message board so are you a little worried about meeting CNU at POMOCO in the playoffs?  Because it is very likely if CNU wins out.

Actually Chris I don't think BC averaged more than 2 wins a year the first 90 years of its existance. :o
You are right about BC folks over here on the USAC board. BC was off this week and quite frankly talk on the ODAC board has been quite minimal. I'm sure by Monday all will be back on the ODAC board talking with the Guilford faithful, Hasanova, Trenches, etc. ;)
You may actually be correct with the visiting POMOCO thing but after today's results I doubt it would be in the first round. Very early speculation if the playoff front runners win out would have BC (10-0) Wesley (something-0) not sure how many games are in-region, CNU(9-0), all the TX teams with 1 loss, PAC rep with 1 loss and the Centineal rep.  Top 3 seeds would be Wesley if they stay in the South then CNU/BC. I like CNU's 9-0 with a win against a playoff UMHB. Sooooooo... If BC comes to POMOCO, or vise-versa I would say they would both have to win a game first. Fact is though there is alot of football to be played and I'm not sold  that CNU or BC will definitely go undefeated the rest of the way.

;D ;D ;D ;D A week ago all the Gboro poster were given the nod to CNU as the favorite to win the conf. Im still scratching my head ( not sure how a 28-zzzaaaaaaaaaaaapppppp zero nada game would make the same team and fans change their mind. But oh well life goes on and the games are won on the field.

There is still a lot of games to be played but I can assure you that AU is not excited about coming to Pomoco in a few weeks.

CNU schedule sets up pretty well for them as a lot of the tough games will be in our backyard.

Yeah, yeah.....details.  :)

Let me put it this way, Averett is the team I've though all along would be the conference champ this year. But I'm being realistic when I say that they're not the general "favorite." Had they beaten Ferrum and/or Methodist by more, AU would be looking a little sweeter. As it stands, I don't see them as the favorite.

And I guarantee AU won't be the favorite when I make the spreads for the CNU-AU game! Playing at Pomoco against CNU.....scary proposition. But one that I'm still counting on an Averett victory.

PS: When was the last time this board has been so alive. I love it!

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Llama - I love your signature...you crack me up!!!!

Gullett......In the nasty rain, wind and on "terrible" field conditions...CNU had 13 offensive drives and 3 went for 38 yards or more (38,48, and 59). I'll take that and a W.

I will give the pollsters one thing.  They sure know who the #1 team is Mount Union.  They demolished Ohio Northern.  I think though the hardest teams to pick are the 20 and below.  I guess when I see a team that should be in the poll.  I see what they SHOULD be able to do long term.  I think CNU could pick up two losses in conference play.  One to AU and possibly another to Ferrum or Maryville.  Did I ever think GC was going to beat CNU, of course not( blah blah blah.  Say I am covering my @$$, whatever)  A true fan roots for their team no matter who they are playing.  If GC was playing Mount Union.  I would say GC will beat them.  Anybody that knows me personally knows that is true.  Players and coaches look at these boards too.  I have heard compliments because I have backed my team up, not matter what.

Whichever CNU fan talked about speed and Hilliard.  Don't you think GC's speed was affected too.  Again Torrey Lowe's name comes to mind.

This board is only active because I love to run my mouth.  You all are welcome  ;) I have the tendency to bring out the best and the worst in people  ;)

Legacy - I agree...I love it too!!!!!

I was missing the banter lately. Of course this has been a really good day...no work, watched a game in the rain, dinner with wife and friends.....and Llamaguy!!

What more can a guy ask for.....I'm gonna change my name to CNU85guy.

CNU85

I think what Lifer or Finest were trying to say is that someone mentioned that really bad weather like today is a neutralizer.......if that's the case and the final outcome was a more "neutral" 28-0, what would the score have been in perfect weather?.......logic would say a lot worse than 28-0.....but who knows...we will never know......it's one of those what if things that is fun to ponder but otherwise senseless

Llama fans are fans I hate you and BC ;D ;D ;D ;D.

Like me and the boys say to each other after a game of Madden.

HA HA I BEAT YOU LAST

My girl is a Cowboy fan and I am a die hard Skins fan and Im still in love with her.

So it doesn't bother me if you hawks/ I mean eagles come over here and verbally argue over the VA title.

Honestly the inconsistent play by the offense has keep the Captains back in the playoffs.  In the playoffs you need to be able to put up 30 plus on any given saturday. Because it would be a hard task to hold a team like UHMB to 10 pts again.

WOW 85! That has been there for almost 2 seasons and you are just now noticing it? I bet if I had it in purple with a viking helmet under it you would have noticed sooner. :o
