So the discussion is records, stadiums and kickers. I thought it was much more then that.

GC Pride Schedule.

Sept. 8    @ UNC Pembroke (UNC Pembroke first home football game)
Sept. 15  @ Gallaudet University, Washington, DC
Sept. 22  @ Maryville College, TN
Sept. 29  Guilford College
Oct. 6  Christopher Newport University
Oct. 13  Shenandoah University
Oct. 20  Averett University
Oct. 27  @ Ferrum College
Nov. 3  Methodist College
Nov. 10 North Carolina Wesleyan College

I would be happy with a 5-5 season.  I believe we will have most of the secondary back.  Which was best in the conference.  We return the spectaculiar freshman LB Mr. Crowder who racked up 25 tackles in one game. (I believe most by any person in d3football last season.)  We return a great DT in Mr. Wooten, who was also a freshman. I think the defense should be solid, and actually believe most of the defense is returning. It looks like right now we are weak at the RB position and we are losing a couple of WR. (I say weak, because Rod Herbin is a senior and we lose a couple WR due to graduation.)

Grimsley nice stadium, ample parking for tailgating;  only problem is we hardly fill the 10,000 seat stadium.  There is a plan to build a outdoor sports park over where alot of the sports teams practice currently.  I believe the plan has a 4,000-5,000 seat stadium.

Kickers.  I think kickers are important and don't talk bad about them at all.  Quick story when I was in high school( which wasn't as long ago, compared to ya'll) my freshman and sophmore year we had a kicker that could line up and kick it through the uprights at mid-field.  One day it was costume day during homecoming week and friday of the game, the kicker came in with a cast on his kicking leg.  Oh the coach was going nuts.  The kicker told him a few hours later he was fine. Kickers are so important.

I think that in many ways kickers and punters are overlooked because they can often affect outcomes of games in ways that do not always get seen by the normal fan. One important way is by field position, give me a kicker or punter who can dominate and control the field any day of the week. By  the way, look back at the play by plays from last season and see just how much of an impact that field position played in the outcomes of games. I was a kicker/punter at a D3 school who also played offensse and defense in high school.

Good points Highlander. If you were a punter/kicker for the Fighting Scots, then you are OK by me.  ;D I was too. Except I was like the 14th string punter!!  :o

Make sure your kicker doesn't take on a linebacker and up man thirty yrds from the action. One ACL and miniscus reconstruction later. The play made the bounty bowl incident with good ole Buddy Ryan look tame...and is still a scene I replay often.
The story has a happy ending as this kid became a all-conference kicker and pitcher and made ABCA all-Mid Atlantic  pitcher

I can relate - 6 knee operations - both ACL's replaced and zero miniscus. However I have plenty of arthrosis for everyone... only person I can be now is the weather guy.  I know 3 days before he does, when the weather is going to change.

Talked to Huntingdon and LaGrange folks during the GSAC baseball tourney (Congrats to MC on hosting the second great tourney in 10 days and for the first title since 02 to claim the Prez Cup again) and they believe they will remain south region teams in 08 unless the petition to go Mideast for football so as to match up with the other schools in the conference.
So if they do, what south region team wants to still play them to fill out their sked? And if they don't, what happens when Huntingdon takes that title and an AQ?

Maryville travels to LaGrange and Centre then hosts Huntingdon before starting conf play in 07. Not sure how long its been since the Scots didnt play Sewanee or Rhodes in a season.

Not to kick a position while its down but kickers ... hmm. I've seen one linebacker/end sized kicker who had the distance and consistency to match but he's walking DI rather than taking any D3 offers. But with the proposed (or are they approved now) changes backing up the kick off line for next season, those guys may be showing who has leg and who doesn't on special teams this season.

There's no "Mideast" in football, just North, South, East and West.

Regardless of whether they are in the South or North or West, games against teams in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia will always be regional for Huntingdon and LaGrange.

I think we already discussed this on another board?

Abngr,

The losses will drive you crazy!  The boys are 6-8 after losing the last two.  We have two more left and a slim possibility of making the postseason.  I did have a dancing job all lined up but I have pulling the hair out of my scalp (there goes the extra summer pay).

Sidenote:  Former Greensboro College Player/ Coach Cpt. Gradeigh Lowe will be deploying to Iraq in a few weeks.  We have sent several players over there.  I know Averett has sent a few people over and Greensboro has sent a few too.  Have any other teams sent National Guard/ ROTC kids over?

Kickers have a fairy amount of feelings to!

You're right, they are a different breed.  Everyone "kneads" a good kicker.  :)

Hey roo, long time no see. How are things down in good ole Tejas?

Allsky,

Things have been busy in Tejas!!  I just retired from the public school athletic business after 20 years as a coach and 15 as an athletic director.  I got an offer from a company that does web-based athletic management software (recruiting, scheduling, inventory and athletic training programs) for high schools and colleges.  I have moved back to my home in Bryan after spending three years as AD in Corpus Christi.  Between moving and starting the new job things have been a little hectic.  I have just enough time to keep up with the board but not enough to post a lot.  Oh well, so much for retirement !!   ;D
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

I understand completely. My dad is "retired" and is as busy now as ever. Congrats on your so called retirement. Hopefully, you can find some time to relax and enjoy with all the busy.  8)

Did SU's Hayes get picked up by the Redskins?  I heard that today, but can't varify in any news source.

abngr,

I remember you talking about new bern awhile back.  Did you know chip williams?

Pat Coleman

Hayes is not on this list:

Neither is Jesse Wendt, who we were told was "signed" by the Redskins.

Yes I knew the long time coach at New Bern. He came in and turned the program into the eastern NC powerhouse it has been since 1997. I say 97 because that's when I went back to Havelock High. When I played in the 70's we smitted New Bern on a regular basis. Not now.

There was a unpleaseant situation last year when he retired from teaching and then attempted to retake the reins. He did not get the job.

A very dreary and "personality driven" decision.  I cannot in this forum say what the sordid details are since I recieved them 3rd hand.

I figured you knew him.  He was the AD at the school in Greensboro where I work.  He just accepted the Head Job at Wakefield.
