So what are the players that graduted of the USASouth doing this summer.  I know there are several in the indoor football leagues.  What is the word?

They're still hung over!! At least I hope they are - take a few months and have fun before things like mortgages, diapers, jobs, etc kick in - reality sucks!

Amen brother.

Or when you get old like me...stresses such as taking the car away from my youngest child, stressing out over the kids' high school exams, dating, school lock downs, etc........

hey - I spoke to a player the other day......looks like another exciting season coming up.

Only if there is some type of Delphic formula involved.  Hence PSBBG's stranglehold on the "instant classic" genre.

CNU85 - what's the word on CNU reloading on offense for the coming year?

outstanding...delphic is such a great word, although i'm wondering if it should be capitalized in this usage?  is it one of those words that can go either way?  nova...we need a ruling here :)

even if it isn't supposed to be capitalized, i'm giving you +1 karma for exposing at least one person to a word they haven't ever seen before

Capitalized, although he could have also used Delphian.  First down, SU97!

Besides the eight issues I note, I thought it was great!  But hey, who's counting?  :)

I went to answers.com, looking for some answers, and I couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I wanted to know who was going to win the USASouth this year and the website couldn't tell me, so I though I left answers.com thwarted.

I was wrong I found out two other things.  Well one other thing and something else that got me thinking about something else.

to clearly anwser CNU85's question about the football read this:

Raw Materials

In the early stages of the game of football, a pig's bladder was inflated and used as the ball. By comparison, today's football is an inflated rubber bladder enclosed in a pebble-grained leather cover or cowhide. This material is used because it is both durable and easily tanned. (www.anwsers.com)

I say we call the old pigskin cowskin, NOT!

this next part got me thinking read this:

The game remained strictly a kicking game until American collegians blended soccer with rugby. In 1874, McGill University (Montreal, Canada) engaged Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts) in two sports games. One game was played with Canadian rugby rules, which allowed players to run with the ball, as well as throw it. The other game followed U.S. soccer rules, which restricted players to only kicking the ball.

It seemed that Harvard preferred elements of both games and introduced them to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Two years later, representatives from Harvard and Yale met in Massachusetts to create guidelines for this new game of football. Another new twist to the game was that it was played with an oval-shaped ball (Awsers.com)

So why aren't they, Harvard or Yale, the national champs every year?

My guess is the same reason why some people feel that Notre Dame will never be like the dynasty they once were, ACADEMIC STANDARDS.

Pride, I think it's pretty well documented that the first intercollegiate football game (in a form we would recognize today) was held in 1869 between Princeton and Rutgers, so I'm not sure about the 1874 reference in "Awsers.com".

Well I just found this one:

http://www.athletics.mcgill.ca/varsity_sports_article.ch2?article_id=2161

Maybe or Maybe not.

excerpt from article

Added: If you follow that link it will show where it orginally appeared:

http://www.footballresearch.com/articles/frpage.cfm?topic=c-to1870

Excerpt from article refering to the Princeton-Rutgers game.

The contest is usually called the first intercollegiate football game. American fans celebrated football's centennial in 1969. They were mistaken. The game played was not American football, nor even its more direct ancestor rugby. Rutgers' historic victory was in soccer.

Karma for Prideguy.....he set a personal record....most consecutive posts without a weird formula that nobody understands!!!

Interesting banter about the origins of football. I spent some time yesterday on the NFL.com website and looked at the history and old standings....and learned a ton of stuff I never knew. Such as - Boston had a pro team (not NFL) called the Yankees!

PrideSportBBallGuy

Maybe everyone got the curse wrong and in fact it was the Boston Yankees that caused the curse all those years.

Thank you for the Karma.

CNU85

ok...another football issue I'd like to hear opinions about:

Every level of College football decides a National Champion on the field, save division 1A. Some say it's due to the Bowl structure and the big bucks that are brought in from those bowl games. I say Phooey!! I cannot watch or follow D1A football.  To decide a champion based on polls and computer models (sorry Prideguy) is no better than figure skating or gymnastics (and my daughter is an all-distrcit gymnast in HS). I say it can be done and it can be done profitably. The problem is that there is nobody in charge with the vision to get it done (such as a Pete Rozelle). How can anyone get hyped up over a bowl game that is played 40 days after the last game played by the teams? The entire bowl structure is nonsense and not good for football. D1A has sold out to the bucks and are not creative or bold enough to figure out that they can bring integrity back to their sport and still make money.

Fill those weeks of no football with playoff games - sponsors can line up for regional championship games. I'm sure Outback would fork up (good pun) similar money to sponsor a South Regional championship game as they do for the Bloomin' Onion Bowl.

Anyway - just my thoughts - I'd love to hear others. Soon enough we will be chatting about how far do we think CNU will advance in the playoffs!!  :o

CNU85-

I don't like the BCS formula. I have never liked the BCS formula. I would be willing to work with an alternative.  I don't think teams should be left out if they are not from a major conference.  I want the playoff system.  If NCAA is so worried about the Money have the companies that sponsor bowl games sponsor rounds.  In my mind problem solved.

The  BCS:  My biggest problem with the BCS is Notre Dame. They lost against big name teams BAD all year long and there was no reason they should have continued to be so high.  I think those that follow the D1 are more interested in match-ups then team ability. The BCS puts to much emphasis on poll rankings and not enough on the team as a whole.  (As I try to do with my rankings.  I look only at stats.)

As for DIII if I had a few investment partners I would want to create a ECAC for the south. Call it something like SSISAC (Southern Schools Intercollegiate Sports Athletic Conference.) It would be much harder because the distance between the schools is much greater than in ECAC.  I would create one bowl game for the ODAC-USASouth and call it the Dixie Bowl.  (Might even try ot get Dixie cups to sponsor it  :D)  That way we could make money like d1 does.  :)

Just Added:  Have a bowl game between ASC and SCAC and call it the Ralph Turner Bowl  :)

A third would be the top schools not getting the AQ from the the USASouth, ASC, SCAC, ODAC.  To be the Southern Bowl.

The three bowls mentioned would be the top Bowls for the South.  Plus a couple of more bowls
