It's obivious why I am writing on this board and not coaching which means the coaches know more than I. However I still believe my predications several months ago are still going to hold out. I have said all along NCWC will be the team to beat this year. CNU as always will be there at the end. I strongly believe Maryville will give a better showing than the coaches poll as I have to support AU. AU certainly lost a lot of seniors last year and many consider those shoes hard to fill. However they have over 35 or more Jr's with 90% of them having play time. I am confident Dunlevy will find the right mix and AU will be in the middle of the hunt come Nov. I agree Methodist will be tough this year as well. Not sure what they lost or will gain this year but they were tough last year and only a couple of plays away from being 8-2 for the year.

Does anyone know where you can find the Media Day speeches at online. Only a few of the web pages for each school have theirs (Averett doesn't) and some don't. Local newspapers only have highlights of their speeches.

I have said it before and have said it again.  CNU is and should be the favorite.  They won the conference and should continue to be the favorite until someone knocks them off the top.  NCWC yeah they may be a good team, but I still can't see them winning the conference. They have a tough schedule as did AU last year. Correct.  The difference is, ouside of CNU, they played an "easier" conference road schedule.  NCWC hasn't really dominated any team at home in thier early history.  Until they start rolling out 4-1 or 5-0 at home, maybe then we can say it is a "tough place to play."

Here is how you beat NCWC, keep thier offense off the field/have a lead late in the ball game. Every game they won they won the battle of possesion.  The exception was GC, but in that game they won the battle in the second half taking a 21-20 lead to 42-20 final. Last year it looked as if they weren't a team that could mount a comeback, losing in OT (failing to convert a 2pt conversion), losing on a missed FG, and losing on a costly TO. ( In those games they did win the battle of possession but were losing late in the game) Again though the OT loss MC did convert on the 2pt conversion that NCWC couldn't convert.

I still wouldn't count out FC.

Narch, Papi, and 'nova, I think you might enjoy this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19999629/site/newsweek/?gt1=10252  :)

I've heard that the TE from Shenandoah did not play for the Hornets last year, possibly the last two years, and was named on the Pre-Season All-American team.  I checked Shenandoah's 2006 roster and his name does not show up.  Maybe Pat can comment how he was named on the D-III All-American Team without playing last season?

when i was in college....i used punch cards in my computer programming class.....I had to take the stack of cards...one card for each line of code...to the computer department, hand them in, and wait for the printout of results once the info was sent to the computer at William & Mary!! CNC at the time, was still heavily tied to W&M. Now that is OLD!! I still remember the "GOTO" statement on line 374....It took me 3 days to figure out I punched "G0TO" ...stupid zero, instead of an "O".

Maybe it was the same voters that voted the S. Korean coach to the all-tournament team after losing both games bya  combined 110-0!!

It's a 2007 preseason All-American team, meaning it's a projection of your 2007 performance. Playing in 2006 is not a prerequisite.

For those who didn't watch live and haven't been able to find it here are some highlights from Coach Sypult's annual one man comedy routine from Media Day. I also tossed in his serious side on D3 football at the close. For what he said about the team and expectations you'll have to find it from MU. It is so refreshing to have a coach that doesn't recite the media guide, down play or overbuild his team and just has fun with the event and will pick on himself and his colleagues.

You said you want to see me in a good mood again. I'm always in a good mood. I love the university. I love our players. I love our coaches. I love coach McAvoy. I love coach Wiggins. I love the students here. I love my wife. I love my daughters. I love my grandchildren. I love just about everybody. I love competition. I love each one of these guys (the coaches) They are all great guys. About the only time you'll see me in a bod mood is when Beatty brings across those guys  in black and white shirts. Then you'll see me in my bad mood. Other than that life is good.

On the Webcast
So this world wide? There are a billion people watching us. I want to say hi to old Lowery in Turkey. Hi Uncle Albert and all my friends in Italy.

Ribbing MC's Ierulli with the same joke as last year
"Tony already has Meredith on the schedule. "

On the coaches' poll
"Lets talk about the polls. This is unbelievable. I counted, three of the five teams below us beat us last year. And we got ranked above them. If the truth be told when (CU coach) Matt goes home he's going to put that poll up.

"Its already up" said Matt

"Five of thelast six years he's shared the conference title. Jack he's going to say alright you got up there now you've got to prove it. And the rest of us are going to do the same thing that Matt did. How dare they put us below No. 1! That's the truth of the matter. Right or wrong its going on the bulletin board with snap shot of Greensboro here last year. (responding to GC coach saying that to see how the planned to utilize Torrey Lowe this season look at how he was used against Methodist last season)
I can't belive we're third. I tried to teach a semianr this winter on how to go from eight wins and a title to four wins. I didn't get any takers."

On the season
"The most often asked question I get is what did we learn from last year. Honestly I guess two people asked and one of those was when I asked the paper to ask me.
Here's what we learned. Don't lose the team MVP on offense. Try to keep him.
Don't give up big plays.
Score when you have the ball in the red zone and have some consistency in the kicking game.
That was our problems last year. As to what we're going to do about it there's an old Frank Sinatra song. If you aren't old enough to know Frank Sinatra he's kind of like Justin Timberlanke. except Sinatra had the mafia that family that Tony (Ierulli) belongs to. If you make a wrong move down in Maryville you're not going to be seen for long after that.

"I believe in luck. Several years ago I went to Hawaiii and I went over to that island that has the volcano and I picked up a black rock and brought it back it was the worst year i had in my life. I went to Ireland and I got on my back and they hung me by legs and I kissed the blarney stone. We won the championship that year. I almost blew it though because a girl in front of me kissed it before I did. and then they put me down there and I kissed it and when i came back up me and my big mouth, with my wife standing there, I said 'well thats just like kissing you.'

On getting older as a coach:
"I used to look at their sisters and then it was the moms and now Im looking at the grandmas, life goes on."

And on the serios side:
"We have higher standards in this room right here than society does. And that's hard sometimes.
There are no frills in D3 there is no ESPN then look at the junk thats on there. No scholarships. We're teaching integrity charctaer and responsibility with young people so vital to this world. D3 guys are the epitomy of what that's all about. Now Im not knocking d1 and the other levels except to say this; our guys  are playing this game for the love  of the game and an education and that's where our responsibility is as coaches.
You know why they have problems with the game and are making rules to shorten the game. Its not D3 its TV. You come to a D3 game and that game rolls right on through  and its a beautiful thing and its played quickly. I think the media has to help us out there. Its not all the bad stuff and not all the big time .What we're doing is very impotant and a great game. Thats the essence of our sport in the teaching and the learning."
"Do the write thing."

And out of curiosity ...
CNU started three sophomore linebackers last year (Horan, Henry, Cappa) but not a one of them is on the preseason roster. Anybody know what happened there?

This is for Mr. '85 and Mr. Allsky7

Did you guys have to use sundials too, to tell time.  :) We did learn how to make them, but I think it was out of respect for our elders.
