Hill had a very nice game on saturday against guilford. I watched the highlights from the game, and ill tell you something else, methodist has found an answer for someone chucking the rock around. Parks was on target, and very nice moving out of the pocket. He throws well on the run. This is a talented group of kids at MU and have the talent to win a lot of games this year if they all stay together. Hill ran nicely on saturday, he actually looks quicker than in recent years past. He hit the hole with a purpose on saturday. Mularski took the role from sands leaving as return specialist and sounds like he did a good job. Things are looking good for methodist, keep it up.

Well, I think the conference offices like to spread POW around a little as well.  For the most part, I don't have a problem with that - stats alone do not capture the true complexion of every performance.  Guilford's QB Vogelbach, for example, will probably put up POW-caliber numbers almost every week, but he will not win POW every week - even in games his team wins.  I do bet, however, he'll earn POW this season more times than anyone else.  :)

Good points Hasa. I hadn't even though about spreading the love around some. There are many different ways you can look at this award. Should expectations be a criteria? The expectation is that Vogelbach will put up big numbers every week. Perhaps in a situation like at H-S with the suspensions, Sedlar stepping in a producing is huge to the Tigers and their overall success. I suspect that the expectation initially was not very high for him. It will surely rise every week as his success (hopefully) grows. I'm of the opinion that it should be one of the criteria.
What should the criteria be? I'd be willing to bet you could poll this board and come up with numerous opinions. I equate this debate to the MVP discussion we had some time ago.
BTW...I had hoped to come down for the H-S game on the 22nd but unfortunately, I will be "roughing it" down at Nags Head fishing.  :o I am actually cutting my week a little short in order to come back to keep those Stone Station boys (and Olinemom too  ;)) out of Piedmont Regional Jail on the 29th when they play the Tigers.  :D :D
Oops...this isn't the ODAC board is it?  :-[

allsky7 - Have a good time at Nags Head!  I think the GC/HSC game under the lights in Greensboro on the 22nd will be good one.  The Quakers need a break after the wild 47-45 and 46-43 outcomes (both in favor of the Tigers) the past two years!  Hopefully, I'll catch up with you at a game somewhere this fall.

Regarding expectations:  I think you either have the best game of the week or you don't.  Hopefully, in my opinion, a player won't be penalized because he was expected to have good game.

     Thanks Hasa!!
Again, I think it depends on what criteria are used for determining the selection. Is the POW award to honor the player that has the best numbers period? Or is the POW to honor the player that made the biggest contribution to the success of his team taking into account his numbers (of course) but other factors as well? Sometimes the same person, sometimes not. Sometimes the guy with the big numbers will win the award because it may be the only standout perfromance of the week. Fair or not (maybe not) but I think that is the reality of it. Peyton Manning carries an enormous burden for the success of the Colts. Suppose Harrington for the Falcons has an outstanding performance but not quite on the level of Peyton's. Should he be given points for POW due to the situation in Atalnta and what his performance meant to the teams success? Interesting debate huh?  ;D
Using the MVP debate....is the MVP the best athlete with the best numbers OR is the MVP the player you can least afford to lose? Sometimes the same person, sometimes not.

Take the discussion on POY further; should not have one period. Football is the ultimate team game and individuals should not be recognized. QB has good numbers because the OL and WR did their job as well as the QB did his ..... RB has good numbers only when the OL and FB do their jobs well.
My opinion..... no place in football for this stuff because it cannot be justified ....  QB's, WR's and RB's cannot perform well without a really good supporting cast and they should not continue to be idolized. Been that way forever... will always be that way .... but football is about blocking and tackling and controlling the line of scrimmage .... not about the resulting numbers from the success/lack of success up front.

I know this will develop into a pretty good debate !!!!!!

Actually, I agree with you.  No "I" in "TEAM" as the old saying goes.  To your point, however, we've always revered QB's, WR's and RB's.  Quick, name ten linemen!  lol   It is a team game and has little or no place for individual awards, but, unfortunately, I think they're here to stay at all levels of sports.  Peace

Not sure that I agree that there shouldn't be any individual awards but your make valid points.  How many fewer yards would a certain Tiger RB have had without a good blocking back?  ;) IMO, any outstanding RB worth his salt will acknowledge his team as the source of his success. If he doesn't, just quit blocking for a few plays in practice. He will figure it out quickly.  ;D
The POG was awarded last Saturday to the Tiger D. I thought that was right on. Especially, in light of the fact that the Tiger D has struggled a little in recent years. That is not saying the Tiger O (or individuals within) didn't have outstanding contributions. Heck, you put up 54, obviously someone had a good game. I think it just gives a little extra love to the D for an outstanding performance.

Mate, don't forget TEAM is an anagram for MEAT (and mate lol)!  TEA is also an anagram for EAT, so Stone Station needs to fire up the charcoal ...  I am thirsty and hungry!  :)  Llama, how about some chicken and ribs with a big glass of iced tea!?  lol

True.  MA is also, but she's a 3rd string TE and didn't make the TEAM ... too TAME.

The BC crew sure has been quiet. I figured once the season started, they would roll. I've even thrown them a few bones and haven't gotten much response. Perhaps they are a tad nervous about this years Eagle squad. Or maybe they just have real jobs and real lives and can't play on the puter all day like allsky7.  ;) :D Believe it or not, I actually do work.  :o

Is it possible that Hill's name should have been submitted to the conference folks by either the coach or the AD for nomination and it wasn't? Does anyone know if that is the process or not?
