Could this be the week Wesley cracks into the d3 polls if they beat FSU?  It would good to see two ACFC schools in the d3 national polls.  ;D  oops wrong conference  ;D

This is a quote from the SU web site on this matter

"We were waiting for his official transcript to arrive to confirm his eligibility. This transcript arrived but was not checked until September 16, the date that all of our student-athletes had to be certified for USA South Conference play. We regret this rules violation and have made the appropriate changes to our eligibility verification policies to insure that this does not happen again. All transcripts will now be checked prior to September 1, the first allowable date of outside competition."

What in the world is going on? It looks like a bunch of clowns are running the athletic dept. & football program. It does not take a genius to know you should check the transcript before the season starts. That excuse of waiting before the USAC games to check on transcripts is ridiculous. SU deserves to be the butt of all jokes this year.

After finding out this Im shocked how the USAC could kick Chowan out of the conference for "not being up to standards" when it comes to testing scores. You all know Iam Hornet fan, but no excuse for this.

Right, I read that quote in the Notables story that was cited earlier. :)

What disappoints me, I guess, is this line:

"This transcript arrived but was not checked until September 16"

Ouch -- that hurts. They had a chance to get it right but missed their opportunity. The thing is, there are only two players in Shenandoah's stats listed as playing the Catholic game but no other, Bowman and Fitchett. Doesn't look like either guy had a large impact on the game. Shenandoah would have won without the ineligible player, I'm pretty sure.

Oh well. Tough price to pay for insufficient compliance procedures.

You are so right Pat!!!
The ones who have a tough price to pay unfortunately are the players. They do all that is told of them from day one. Go through summer workouts, work hard on the field, go to practice every day.
I feel bad for the student that was declared ineligible because he most likely feels like he let the team down. But its not his fault at all. He did what was told of him to get his transcript in on time. This falls clearly on Barnes' lap. The captains and fellow leaders of the team better come together to make sure this team wont fall apart.
They were already having a tough season and Im afraid that because of something like this a lot of in house fighting could start and an attitude of an "I don't give a ----" could rise up.

I wouldn't go that far. I think in most departments this is the compliance officer's area. Not sure who that is (and don't really care, frankly) but it's almost never the football coach.

It may not be all his fault yes. But as they say the "buck stops here." I don't know what to say to tell you the truth. I just cant believe that this happened  >:(    Someone clearly was not doing the job given to them.

Pat, is this a common thing in D3 to check on transcripts only when conference play starts? I cant believe it is.

wow - i go away for a week or so and come back to see blackhats STILL moaning - give it up, dude - nobody has disrespected ferrum...just stated the truth...they haven't beat a team of consequence yet - you can say all you want that chowan is better, but they're still not good...they MIGHT win 1 game if they were still in the usasac - i've talked to a few coaches who say they actually have less TALENT, even with scholly's (can't get non-qualifiers on the field the first year in d2 like they did as a d3) - ferrum IS extremely talented, though, and could make a run at the usasac title - pat is not biased AGAINST ferrum, but he clearly isn't biased FOR the panthers, either...that's the way it should be - lose the paranoia and enjoy ferrum's 5-0 start :)

uncle jesse - there is a very simple solution to the su problem...at mc a player doesn't even PRACTICE until he/she is declared eligible...seems like a reasonable policy for any school - this is unfortunate for the hornets players because avoiding the situation is SO EASY

narch

predictions

fc 41 - m'ville 27 - scots can't handle fc running game
cnu 38 - gc 10 - pride turn the ball over too much on offense, don't get enough stops on defense
mc 38 - au 20 - monarchs remember tough trip to au 2 years ago...can't have a repeat

narch

monarchs sound flat, down 14-2 in the 2nd quarter...gotta get going, boys

cnufan

Capt's up 21-7 to start the second quarter. CNU scored on its first three possessions and threw an INT on the fourth poss.

cnufan

9-yard touchdown pass by the Pride. Missed the PAT, score is now CNU 21-13 with 13 mins left in the first half.

narch

averett really winning the field position battle, pinning the monarchs deep most of the day and forcing mc to drive the field...which hasn't happened - averett d-line is really stacking the run and rocket hasn't stepped up in the passing game - this team needs to have a sense of urgency or any hope of a conference championship will dissolve in the rain today

cnufan

GC missed a 40-yard FG with 837 left until half. CNU has the ball in its own territory.
