I think any criticism of the SU SID is in your mind. I never said anything critical of Scott Musa.

I don't think criticizing the SU newspaper is out of bounds, like criticizing any newspaper. Especially since it doesn't appear to be a student newspaper.

Your guy Barnes was the mastermind that put this system in place in the late 90's and why we don't get rid of it as well I have no idea. Neither team will ever be in a shoot out that's for sure.

oh great...  I had forgotten Ferrum runs it too.  Maybe I'll skip the Wing-Boring Super Bowl this weekend.

im not knocking SU at all, but i do think the days of their wing-t style offense is through until they get another big time fullback. Looking at their team on the roster, they have some pretty big kids at reciever, maybe they should throw the ball which opens up the run. Force teams to cover your spread and run it underneath. Barnes is a college coach, he should know this, but at the same time, why is he not doing it? SU fans, any thoughts?

Plus, they need some more Hoss' up front to make the running game more effective.  It doesn't matter who you have in the backfield if you can't win at the line of scrimage.

2 or 3 years ago they had two all-conf. receivers who were both at least 6'4" and we didn't throw to them...

51, I have attended both of AU's games and I think everyone is confused as to what is going on. Yes they had a good recruiting year. I was at the intersquad scrimmage and there were some huge freshman coming in. It was impossible to gage them against Mount Union simply because Mount is Mighty and Au was outclassed. Against Guilford I think we saw the inexperiance and youth come out. But that wasn't the only problem we in the stands noticed. You are correct, there was no leadership on the field. There were several starters (especially from OL) that didn't dress due to injuries. There seemed to be some confusion on the sidlines with play calling, what schemes they needed to be in on certain plays (example....50 seconds to go in the half, AU has just scored and got some momentum and AU doesn't get back in a prevent defense, knowing that Guilford is going for the bomb) Then Guilford scores on a pass where there is no defender within 20 yards of the receiver. It was also noted that the OL was hurting as AU could't stop their own grandmother from coming in on the QB. He had no time to set up and throw during the whole game. Finally, there was no running game. AU was spoiled in the past 3 years with Kyle Wilson, and so far in two games, I don't think they have come close to 100 yards on the ground. (going forward). The head coach was quoted in the newspaper after the Guilford game that the coaches didn't do their job, but promised that would change right away. As far as the youth and inexperience as well and injuries, that will take time. Lets hope they can make a better showing against W&L.

PS - the next time AU's kicker doesn't put the ball through the middle of the uprights and leaves doubt in everyones mind if the ref made correct call or not, he will go back home with a size 13 boot up his ass; Compliments of his father. (no further conversation on this needs to occur)

I think you need to wait a couple of weeks before throwing in the towel.  Conference games are the only ones that matter and AU still has a chance to pull it together.  Ask again in three weeks.

sorry...i thought that by asking if the paper would "have its own sportswriters?" you were implying that the sid should not be writing for the newspaper and being critical of the fact that he wrote for the school paper...i guess i was wrong

now i'm confused again...wasn't your criticism about not using students...if it's not a student newspaper, wouldn't the sid qualify as one of "it's own sportswiters"...

the most important questions, however, are these...did coach sypult coach the defense up enough to stop the battling bishops this weekend? do the hornets have enough offense to beat the panthers? will the pride roll or roll over against the scots? can averett get a w against an odac front-runner? did the captains bye week come at the perfect time? and will OJ spend the rest of his life in prison? :)

Narch:

I know you haven't really followed the gist of this conversation, since you've blown up a one-liner into a two-day event, but I have since learned that this newspaper doesn't even really pretend to be a student newspaper.

Doesn't mean that there shouldn't be a student writing sports as a training ground for the real world.
Doesn't mean that a real student newspaper shouldn't be written solely by students.
Doesn't mean that I dislike Shenandoah's SID or his work.
It just is what it is. Please consider letting it go. Thanks muchly.

In Narch's defense, the first time I read it I had the same view.  But now see where you are coming from Pat.

97, thanks for the up lift. Didn't mean to make it sound like I was throwing in the towel however after watching AU the past two years put togeather 2 winning seasons and share the conf. title with CNU last year, it's frustrating to see them in this tail spin. I understand having to rebuild and losing 22 seniors is tuff, but the upperclass guys from the past two years need to step up and show they can play and lead. Right now the team is really down and these guys haven't come to the rescue yet. I think a good showing against W&L will give them a shot in the arm and send them into conf. play with a better attitude. I am confident Mike Dunlevy will have them ready for conf. play and things will get better.

sorry Narch, not this year.  NCWC by 2 TD's

Quote from: narch on September 20, 2007, 09:13:31 PM
do the hornets have enough offense to beat the panthers?

The only positive with the wing-boring super bowl is that the clock will never stop and we'll be out of there by 8:35 pm.  SU defense scores 3 TD's and the outside linebacker hits the winning field goal in the closing seconds.   SU by 1.

Quote from: narch on September 20, 2007, 09:13:31 PM
will the pride roll or roll over against the scots?

What is a pride anyways?  William Wallace by 4 touchdowns.

Quote from: narch on September 20, 2007, 09:13:31 PM
can averett get a w against an odac front-runner?

Old South over USA South defending Champ by a touchdown.  (but Kickerdad's kid hits 4 FG)

It's a state school conspiracy...  You heard me CNU85, no private schools in the conference have this weekend off... ;D

I heard PSBBG is driving the White Bronco on I-95 as we speak...

Yeah, SU has been through the same thing.  But I think you guys have more returning and didn't have the same drop off like we did a couple of years ago...  Your OOC schedule was brutal, so it's a clean slate now. There's lots of football left to play.

first of all if I were driving anything, it would not be a White Bronco, because I don't like Fords. The only thing right about that statement is, well, I would be driving on I-95.  I do not know how offensive that statement was, but to many it would be quite offensive.

Maryville-GC game believe it or not is probably the most important game this weekend.

Plus, Believe it or not, I really think MU will win this weekend, and if they don't I believe it will demostrate why NCWC will not win the conference.
