Maryville arrived yesterday with their inflated 4-0 record (alot of air in it)
and they found out  that speed does kill; may the "Little Scotties" REST
IN PEACE.The Scots served the conference well with their out of conference
play. The score was 51-6 with the starters from both sides in the game.
The Scots did exhibit some poor sportsmanship (three calls late in the game)
The Bishops have a week off and then play an always tough Averett Squad.
Don't get on the band wagon BallBOY, not just yet!! Old Ref the defense was
a thing of beauty and the offense is starting to jell, Keep an eye out.
GO NCW!!!!!!

I do believe that MC opponets combined record is, I believe prior to playing NCWC was 4-11. I think GC could have beaten them, however 7 TO's at any level you can't/shouldn't win. Still not on the NCWC bandwagon, even you said Smith Reed MC record was inflated.  I really didn't think MC had a chance in that game.  I just will have to wait and see, the bandwagon is near, but still haven't jumped on it yet.

What do I say about last nights game.  It was just another Souper Bowl.  Vogelbach doesn't seem to be going down field as much as he did last year, which I feel has really cut down on his TO's.

Hey PSBBG,

I was just looking at the stats. Wow. GCQ had 107 offensive plays, over 500 yds Offense, 39 first downs and 37 minutes possession and you guys only lost by 6.......Truly, that indicates to me that the Pride didn't give up, kept fighting...impressive, even with a loss.

Well I am so glad you were able to log on and talk smack after the game.  If you were so conifendent in them why didn't you say anything before the game?  I believe you were the favorite anyways not us.  So way to pat yourself on the back and act like you weren't the favorite.  As far as the quote "may the "Little Scotties" REST IN PEACE" that shows your age/ignorace level and is not necessary (and you were the one talking about sportsmanship).  I'm not being bitter I am just telling the truth.   Congrads to NCWC (and yes they are for real as was said in the beginning of the season) on the big win, but quit being stupid man.

I still believe CNU is the team to beat until they are dethroned.  They always end up on top of the Conference and on Oct. 27th we will see who really is the best team.  I just hope we can get an out right champion this year and not split the title again.

Proudfightingscott.......It appears that NCWC is represented on this board by only two or three posters..... I certainly do not want all posters who favor NCWC to be considered as poor sports simply because of ...what I also would agree as a "yellow flag infraction" such as "unsportman like conduct" ....I, personally agree, that until CNU is dethroned... they have to be considered favorites... Good Luck to the Fighting Scotts through the remainder of the season.... :)

ProudFightingScot

oh no.  I wouldn't tag entire group for what one person would say.  I was just refering to his comments only.  Some things just are unnecessary and need left back in elementary school that's all.

How did Ferrum look last week?  The Scots play them this week and I was wondering how good a game it will be.

Not sure I would bury the "Little Scotties" just yet. I am/was/will continue to be excited about the Scots season. I knew that they hadn't had a quality W and that NCWC would be a tough game. Congrats to the Bishops! Even as a former Fighting Scot, I was not ready to put them in the category of USAC contender just yet. A win Saturday IMO, would have put them in that category. Unfortunately, that didn't happen so it's back to work. Obviosuly, they still have some work to do to get to that level. MC still has a chance to put together the best season in over 20 years. Hopefully, when I get the chance to see them on OCtober 27th, that will still be the case. GO SCOTS!!

new poster to this conference.
Since NCWC has handled CNU the past couple of years, what does it look like for this year? I have some knowledge of the coaching staff at NCWC, the Head Man is very good. I have been putting NCWC at the top of this conference since the year began. Since, the game is in Newport's home turf, could this make a difference? or has NCWC shrugged off road game complications over the past couple of years in Conference play?

Actually, with the one exception of this past week, NCWC has played better on the road this year than at home. I do have a concern that the bye week may not be good for them. They seem to have ir together with momentum....hate to see that interrupted.

Maybe you can blame Barnes on his recruiting but personally (once again I'm sorry but I saw very average talent on the SU side of the ball). Their skill players need a lot of work and I saw very little heart and emotion even when it was 14-0. You can blame a coach for a lot of things but the SU team played with no heart or emotion. Back to CNU good win its always a pleasure to see us blast SU.

One thing alot of SU supporters have been saying lately is that Barnes is a bad recruiter. The two teams that he won with and were champions were Walter Barr's kids. He inherited those players. Because of a late minute problem at work I was not able to go to the game. Probably turned out to be a good thing. But on the radio they were saying that same thing that at times the team played with no emotion and at the beginning of the game they said that players have been arguing back and forth with each other pointing fingers at each other defense against offence and offence against defense and they said some players have quit the team. It's just another example of how Barnes had this team at the heights of the USAC to the basement. He has clearly lost the team. This is now the Hornets 9th straight loss and in those games Barnes' Wing T has averaged 7 points and shut out 3 times. I have skirted around this in the past saying he needs to change is play calling. Now its just clear. The team needs a change in leadership. Belive me I do not like to say it because he is a nice guy. I personally like him. I like what he belives in and gives respect to the community. But it just comes to a time in everything when you must decide if you should change direction. SU needs to do this at the end of the season.  Someone that can put some new life back into the team. Someone that can get the players to belive they can win and to mix it up on the field. It hurts alot to see the team fall like this and I feel for the players and parents. I know as a former athlete the players aren't going on to the field saying "I'm not going to give it my all." But its just human nature that when your behind so quick in every game it takes a toll on you and you don't play with the same emotion you would normally. That's not saying they give up but its just something that puts alot of weight on a kids shoulders and its harder to play with a high emotion. This team needs to be brought back to life and the only way it looks like it can is have new leadership at the top.

Here are some quotes from Barnes after the game in the Winchester Star.
"The kids are frustrated, but they played hard on both sides of the ball and didn't give up,"
"They ran the ball hard and wore us down," Barnes said. "They made some plays and that was the difference — (they) wore us down."http://www.winchesterstar.com/article_details.php?ArticleID=1481

ALLSKY7, enjoyed your comments. thanks for keeping it positve and not
taking things personal The Scots have a good team and should win quite a
few more games. You're right, we can't bury you yet we need help on
the 13th of Oct. The Scots have a nice offense but could use some more
speed on defense. Good Luck the rest of the way. GO SCOTS!!!!!!!!

USED2B, NCWC has only beaten CNU once and throw into the mix that CNU
does not lose at home and things get even more difficult. Right now our focus
(as a fan ) is for NCW to get healthy and get ready to play Averett College
on the 13th. Averett is always tough and full of tricks.

Thanks Reed...I try not to get caught up too much in the smack talk. I may throw a few jabs in fun on occasion. Guess I have been around the block enough times to know that the smack you talk today will probably be the smack busting you in the chops tomorrow.  :D
On the road at CNU Oct 13th is obviosuly the toughest slot left on the Scots schedule. Hopefully they can get the W and help you out.  ;) They must focus on Ferrum first. A game they probably should win at home but you can't afford to overlook anyone. Nothing would make me happier than to go see a 6 and 1 Scots team on October 27th when they play Methodist for HC. I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from two years ago when a total Scots meltdown in the 4th Q allowed The Monarchs to steal one. Speaking of team speed, IMO, this was the reason they lost that game. If memory serves me, they gave up two big plays that were the difference. I have been a part of Maryville football since 1983 and I don't think team speed has ever been a strong point.  8)

papi - it was nice to see the defense finally come to play, but to be honest, ehc doesn't have a lot of guys that can hurt a team on that side of the ball - the rb's are all smallish (but pretty quick and they run hard) the wr's had pretty good size, but they weren't going to beat anyone down the field and the qb was not very good - in the first half, ehc ran at will agains the monarch defense but stalled when they "out-thunk" themselves and started calling pass plays...the qb didn't throw more than one ball that was remotely close to a receiver in the first half, or the 1/2 time score could have been worse than 3-3

the monarchs, on the other hand, came out firing the ball all around in the first 1/2, and parks was 17-20 with 170 yards...i think all 3 of his incomplete passes, though, were on 3rd downs and led to stalled drives...which led to missed fg's - i thought on at least 2 occassions, the monarchs should have gone for it on 4th down instead of kicking...there was a nice breeze, you've got a young, unproven kicker and the spot on the field/down and distance dictated going for it, in my opinion, but i'm not paid to coach

in the second half, both defenses really tightened up and it was a punt-fest - ehc made 2 big plays on offense in the second half - first, on a 3rd and long, the qb made a nice throw to the only spot the ball could have been caught, and the receiver made a catch with a monarch blanketing him...just a good play made by ehc - a few plays later, ehc hooks up on a 40 yard reception inside the monarch 20 on a ball that was tipped by the db but caught...really a poor pass that had a good result...these two plays allowed ehc to kick a fg and go up 6-3 - the monarchs had a chance with about 2:30 left, but parks made his only real mistake of the day and threw the ball to an ehc defender on an out pattern...the monarchs had hit this same pattern with regularity throughout the first 3 quarters, but ehc really started to sit on it in the 4th quarter...i thought the monarchs might call an out-and-up, but the ol wasn't giving enough time for a double move by a wr...if it had been executed, though, it could have been big, because they were biting on the out EVERY time

if's + shoulda's + woulda's = 0-4 for the monarchs right now

the good thing is this...they're just 0-1 in conference - while it's a long-shot, a conference championship is still within reach :)

narch

congrats to mike hill for becoming the monarch's all-time leading rusher - the last 2 games haven't gone exactly the way he or the rest of the offense would have liked, but he is a special back and is a lot of fun to watch - i thought he might have been pressing a bit on saturday...he didn't look as patient as he normally does...but he runs so hard for a guy who tips the scales at about 165 - he told me during his freshman year that he was going to set that record...he was true to his word - congrats mike!
