There is a whole lot of kicker love that Pat  ;D  I agree w/ ya.  Let the guy kick the ball.  CNU is too busy scoring TD's this year to give him a chance to try a field goal.  Poor kicker...

I guess in my view, it is just not that big a deal. If a coach has a rep for running the score up, then karma will catch up with him eventually. I've never heard that about Kelchner.  8)
I would think that losing teams have more important things to worry about. Like what can they do to improve. Before all the Pride fans jump me, I played on a Fighting Scots team that won 7 games in 3 years and coached for a number of years. I have been on both ends of this.  ;)

I got your back  ;D

In response to the fact that they feel disrespected by CNU, In Coach Ierulli's first season as coach the Scots traveled to H-SC the final game of the season. H-SC had already lost a conf. game to Bridgewater and probably felt they needed a statement game to have a shot at an at-large bid. At the end of the game the final score was H-SC 82 MC 14. I will say that I believe they subbed generously, yet it is still your job to stop them. It turned into motivation for the Scots the next few years. If you do not like getting beat that bad, work harder to prevent it.

Allsky I'll be there  ;D.  I'm excited for this year's homecoming.  I am pretty confident we can win this year HC Game.

Also, in response to the former Greensboro poster saying about sportsmanship... I believe it was your team last year that had 196 yards in penalties against MVC and most were of the 15 yard variety (and there could have been many more called).  Kinda the pot calling the kettle black.  There is an article on just that fact in the daily times.  I will try to find that article and link it (unless someone beats me to the punch, no personal foul pun intended).

Highlander....unfortunately, I remember that game well.  :'(  Even though I am a Tiger fan too, I am first a Fighting Scot. That day was quite painful.  :(  Not that it really matters that much or makes you feel much better, but didn't the Scots have a bunch of guys sick that day and unable to play? Seems like I heard that at some point in the weeks following the game.

I don't see the problem with letting the kid kick the field goal, like was said earlier, if a long field goal is needed in a big game, I'd want the kid to have confidence in the kick.
To me, as long as the dogs have been called off (starters out of the game, defense not pinning back their ears and blitzing every play) then let the kids play.  At one time most of us were 40/40 guys (only played if you're 40 up or 40 down) and when I got in the game, I wanted to show the coaching staff that I had something to offer to the game.  Let the 40/40 guys play the game as well.  If not than lets institute a mercy rule, we can stop the game as soon as someone gets up more than 21 points.
Does it suck to be getting your butt kicked, dang right?  Does it make you see red to see the other team kick a field goal late in the game to add to the score?  It better, or you need to hang your pads up because you are not a competitor, you are just going through the motions.  Use getting you butt whooped as motivation for the next play, next game, or next season.  Take it to that very team the next year.

My Jr. year we were beating a team pretty bad and the second string defense was in.  A good friend of mine was a 2nd string LB and probably the hardest working guy on the team and was in the game late in the fourth.  He picked up a fumble and ran it in the endzone, now if he didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings he could have just fell on the ball and the offense could have taken a knee.  I bet right now if I called him (7 years later) and asked him the greatest play of his college career, he'd tell me scoring that TD.

The point I'm trying to make in that entire ramble is that the game is not over for either team until the final second ticks off the clock, and while I agree there is no need to embarass or try to hurt the other team, there is no need to stop playing either.

Anyone want to make some prediction on how many points the Hornets will score this week against Greensboro? Last year SU scored 36 points in what has turned out to be the last win for the Hornets. GC's  D has avg. 30 points against them while SU's run up the middle always first has averaged 8 points. Something has to give this week. I'm predicting 14, maybe 17 points from the men in blue Saturday night.

The name of the game is football. You win because you establish winning attitudes in your players, which is confidence. I agree with Papi, if you already have tha game won, put the kid in and let him work on his confidence, it might come in later when the score isn't so one sided.

Hello All-
This is offically my last post on the board.  I am sick of the poor sportsmanship displayed in the conference, so I don't feel I need to post on here anymore.  The conference promotes good sportsmanship, even by hanging up signs in gyms across the conference.  I don't see it being displayed.  Before I get really scorned by those I know will scorn me. I want to be nice.

Seems kind of a strange way to protest about "poor sportsmanship" when D3football.com and its post patterns has nothing to do with any of it. Why quit the message board?

I've learned not to try to make reason from PSBBG's comments.

I believe CNU took 64 players to Greensboro on the travel squad.  63 got into the game and played.  After the game, coach reportedly apologized to the FOURTH string QB for not getting him in.  Sounds like there were a lot of players beyond the 2 deep who were in during the last two minutes.

CaptainChris

As a former player at CNU, I can easily say that playing Greensboro was a nightmare because you knew they would talk the entire game and take shots when they had the opportunity. If there wa a poll for former players I'm positive it would be near unanimous that GC was the worst sports. It's time for somebody to grow up. CNU had 42 points in the first half and only 10 in the second half??? Looks like the dogs were called off. I wasn't there to witness it but it looks like all players who traveled played. If you can't stop a 2nd or 3rd string offense then you deserve a 45 yard field goal. Last year we were up big on Maryville but they never gave up. Maybe Greensboro can watch some film on them b/c I've witnessed them first hand giving up. Maybe they should have some PRIDE(pun intended) and be able to stop a 3rd string offense from scoring on them. How's that for sportsmanship?

Key for the Scots this Weekend- (1) Show up to play (unlike the NCWC game) and (2) Keep the game close until fourth quarter and then find way to win game.

It seems this team can find ways to win games if it is close in the end. Also, for the Scots to become a player in the conf. they must learn to beat the teams that are champions. I stated long ago that everyone in the conf. must still go through CNWhoo if they want to be the champions.

Allsky7,

When MC played H-S in the last game of the 2003 season, the Scots traveled with only 42 players because 1/2 of the team got sick that week.  Seven defensive starters did not make the trip and 3 offensive linemen had to go on the other side of the ball to play on the defensive line.  H-S only threw 1 pass in the second half and ran very basic offensive plays.  We were greatly outmanned that day against a very good H-S team.  Coach I never held anything against H-S on the score and used that game as motivation to get the program better.  And it has.....

If there is a team out there that likes to run up the score on other teams is Averett and that is probably a reason why they are getting pounded by teams this year.   Last season Averett was up on MC by 4 TD's with 5 minutes left in the game and they ran a fake punt on the Scots.  That led to a potential fight at the end of the game and thankfully our coaching staff grabbed our players back to our sideline which prevented a bad scene.....

Wow....I drive to DC and in the meantime this board lights up. PSBBG (southernstylefootball) or whatever you call yourself now....I hope you come back. It was always good to hear your point of view...even if it was, as Narch called it, an instant classic.

Not sure I follow your logic.....something about banners in a gym and personal fouls so you quit. I know this board can be frustrating...I quit once (or I'd have about 2500 posts - hey Pat can you give them back?? :D :D). It was the most embarrasing, sophomoric thing I've done as an adult. Here I was, a grown man, and I took my marbles and left the sandbox. It was therapeutic, though. It made me think...and so I came back with a new appreciation for what this board is about, and truly appreciate the hard work Pat, Keith, Ryan and all the d3.com staff put into this. I felt extrememely priveleged and honored when Pat was big enough to overcome my previous attitude and allowed me to post 2 blogs about my radio and Texas trip experiences. Pat could have ignored me - he didn't. So, give Pat a break there.

As far as CNU running up the score.....I say BUNK!!! They scored 10 points in the second half - including a 45 yard FG, with RESERVES!! The kid hasn't kicked a FG since week 1. We have tough games coming up with Maryville, Methodist - yes tough - they beat us recently- NCW and on the road with FC and AU....never can tell when a FG decides the game. And with the 2 CNU in region losses, CNU has to win out to make playoffs. So, practice the FG - we might need it soon!

I heard CNU brought 65 players and played 64. Coach apologized for not getting the 4th string QB in the game.

Personal Fouls - before you quit, I posted that on the post game interview, the first thing out of Kelchner's mouth was that he was upset about the penalties and it showed a lack of focus. He was ticked and I know his players heard about it. Kelchner is a class act. I know him. I've talked to him dozens of times. He understands d3 football. He was even complimented by a UMHB fan because before the game Kelchner went to the student section in texas and said they should "cheer loud....this was a football game". He gets it.

Another reason to quit the board is because the hoops tournament is at CNU???
Instant Classic!
