Fellas, thanks for all the love on the board today. NCW got a tough draw
and 500 miles to travel. We'll need all the good karma we can get. It's
good to win the conference outright. Now the men have to go to PA. and get
the job done. I know Old REf & NCWDad join me in saying ,"GO BISHOPS"!!!!!!!!

Have the team watch the SECOND half of last year's game against CNU.  :D W&J can be beaten.

Anyone not feel bad for NCW having to travel? I'm pulling for them and hope thier speed and good weather might them out against W&J. I know 1st hand, southern teams playing in shocking weather can be a difference maker.

I am not really sure how well Washington and Jefferson is this year...I see they are undefeated but I dont really know anything about them...

Remembering back a couple of years to my playing days W & J has an astro turf that could really benefit the Bishops speed as long as the weathers nice.

Good luck Bishops represent us well!

is there such a thing as an easy draw this time of year?

i do feel that ncwc should have been the #7 seed - hsc's two losses were to 4-6 teams...one of which ncwc beat (ehc) - ncwc's losses came to a pair of 9-1 playoff teams...but it doesn't matter much...wesley wouldn't have been an easier draw - good luck, bishops!

Did no other team have a 1000 yard rusher this year in the USA South besides Maryville?  I was just looking at the end of the year stats and I wouldn't have thought that.  I thought Vann would have gotten there or been close.  Especially since Ferrum rushed for 350 yards more yards than Maryville did.

Here's the link to the entire MDT Sunday package on the MC win and the conference round up.
http://www.thedailytimes.com/article/20071111/SPORTS/71111012

We'll have another wrap package up Tuesday a.m. including the rare analysis of our staff's preseason conference picks vs. the actual final standings (guess we're feeling brave today)

I think without the injury there was no doubt Hill would have reached a grand. Vann didnt get the number of carries to get him to 1,000 but spreading the ball around worked very well for Ferrum. I think what makes Hightower's season more impressive is that he is not hogging carries  — Wall and Moore both finished with more than 500 yards.

Somewhat dissapointed that I wasn't able to scheme a way to drive up for NCW's playoff game. It was a lot of fun last year to go cover CNU against W&J but alas basketball gets in the way again and I wonder if MC basketball may pay for football's success opening up at Averett Saturday. :o

SU may have a legit big play receiver on their hands, think he'll be back and get a bigger piece of the offensive pie next year? ;)

After looking over who got left out in the different brackets, I'm giving my WTF sympathy to D2's Carson-Newman. Regional teams ranked behind them, with softer skeds and with more losses get in but the Eagles are left out.  ???

Yes it was great to see Moore break out this year.  It definately makes for a great 1-2 punch.  Also since they are both Sophomores we should be solid with the run for the years to come.

I was wondering about Averett vs. MC basketball game.  Is Averett good enough to exact their revenge on the Scots?  I know MC has been extremely successful over the past few years.

Yes - Averett won the USASAC last year and were ranked by d3hoops in the top 25 at times during last season.  They return 4 starters.

What was more impressive than the final record was that they battled significant injuries to starters all year long and were still able to pull together and win the whole thing.  Tough group of kids.

Well its more basketball related but since we're going out of the MC conference win to a nonconference basketball game WTH

MC has more wings than Hooters on Bike Nite but thin everywhere else. So nobody knows what to expect from this team except it is not going to be the post'em up style Scots that have gone to 9 straight NCAAs with a first round win.

They can get a leg up by surprising AU and Centre as they open with two road games in different Danvilles but  even watching them scrimmage very hard to tell how good they are.

If the system bogs down on opening night on the road at AU then I think it could very well be a payback situation.

To the Monarchs, congrats on the win saturday. I had the opportunity to stand on the sidelines to watch the game saturday. I enjoyed every minute of it. I hope one day i can be there to help coach the methodist team.

Narch- I agree with what you said about the game. The team is so young, they will be something to reckon with next year. The interior guys for the O-Line are nasty players. Kesslar will be another all-conference center for the monarchs. He is smart and plays with passion for the game. A leader for a group of youg guys. The two guards are nice as well, and the left tackle reminds me alot of how another fromer tackle played for the monarchs, DELAPP. He is solid and has some good feet and size. This team is going to be nice. I talked with Parks after the game, the kid is very meek and all about the team. He cares about what the team thinks and is going to be nice for them next year. Rocket came along very strong with his junior year, and it seems as though Parks looks like Roncketti alot with how he has played this year. Good things to come for the monarchs.

GOOD LUCK NCWC. They held me up to my prediction, they won the title outright. I thought they would. Good luck in the postseason. It seems we cannot get past the second round, so lets get it done boys.
GO MONARCHS!! 2005 Conference Champs!

Nice way to end the season for the Hornets. They swept the final USA South Conference Rookie of the Week awards.http://www.su.edu/athletics/hornets_news.cfm?spid=1814

"Amey, who led all receivers with 149 yards on seven catches, set a new school record for receiving yards in a season as well as longest reception in history. Amey's 77-yarder on the visitors final drive breaks the record of 76 set by Chris Delfin against Methodist in the 2003 season finale. His 462 yards on the year breaks Mike McVearry's 2004 record. Lunsford, who had 189 yards passing, set a new school mark with 15 completions. This breaks the record of 14 held by Jon Hoffman and set against Bridgewater in 2004." SU web Site by I belive Scott Musa

In a recap of last Saturdays game I have to write again with how pleased I was with what Coach Barnes did with the play calling. For so long I have been complaining about how one sided he was calling a game. But Saturdays game it was 38 rush and 32 passing plays and I'm happy to give credit when credit is due to Barnes. While its just one game its a start in the right direction. No team can be one dimensional and expect to win on a consistent basis. With Lunsferd now having a half of year under his belt and star's  like freshmen players Amey and defensive end Blake Campbell maybe the Hornets can turn things around next season. I really hope Barnes keeps up the balanced approached next season. I'm already looking forward to next September with hopes of some strong recruiting in the off season. Until then GO HORNETS!!!

In today's SU paper Scott Musa writes a short paragraph about Shentel Stadium's field will get an upgrade after the lacrosse season and will explain more about it later. Perhaps this is the field turf many of us have been hoping  to be installed at SU . I hope Santa brings us this for our team and stadium. Just something else I will be looking forward to in 2008.
