It's Thursday. I would assume that NCW will leave for the W&J game tomorrow.  Just wanted to drop in a "Good Luck" and offer best wishes before people start hitting the road. I hope NCW has a better outcome over W&J than CNU has had.

Git-R-Done!!!   :D :D

Here, here!  I have W&J as my first #1 to go down!  After watching your QB slip 50 tackles at the Wesley game early this year, I think you slip by an overconfident PAC team.

Wow, 85, you don't belong in Tidewater....you should be living out here amid the mountains and country roads with me.   ;D

Anyway, ditto here about NCW! I hope you guys chalk up a great win for the team and for the conference. GO BISHOPS!!

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Hey Tipps, I just wanted to say I really enjoyed reading your mid-atlantic column this year.  I thought you did a great job of covering the region.  If you ever end up back at Shentel Stadium let me know.

Thanks SU97! I'll definitely give you a heads up next time I'm spending three hours or so at Shentel.

no talk about the all-conference teams yet...well i'll get it started

usasac all-conference

no real surprises in offensive player of the year, coach of the year, offensive/defensive rookie of the year...i was a little surprised to see lawrence voted defensive player of the year - not because he doesn't deserve it...he's a complete beast on the field - but because the monarch defense as a whole struggled at times this year - i thought maybe the struggles of the defense would prevent consideration from some of the coaches - i can assure you of this, though...there isn't a player in the usasac that deserves any accolades they get more than daryl lawrence...he is the very definition of a student-athlete, he's a great leader and he's a great person

I thought the Locke kid from maryville should have been at least 2nd team, probally first team. When Greensboro played them he was the most athletic player they had on defense.

Well that is the second year in a row Locke has really been snubbed.  He was a preseason all-American and had solid numbers still when other teams would kick away from him on kickoffs, but hey sometimes it seems like the original conference members stick together on their post season awards.  No knock on the 3 guys that got the award.  I guess he should have expected it since last year he lead the conference in punt and kick return yards at got honorable mentioned whoo freaking hoo  :-\

I also expected Brad Daniel should have been possibly second-team.  He has an extremely strong leg and since Maryville likes to keep everyone in the stands the whole game and win close, he banged some huge kicks home.

Also, were there only 2 FBs this year?  Nobody got honorable mentioned.

if you're pimping him as a kick returner, the numbers don't back up your claims...teams kicked to him on 21 of 39 ko's this year and he averaged 19.4 yards per return, which was good for 10th in the conference and over 10 yards per return behind the leaders - in conference games, he was worse, with just a 17.1 yard per ko return average which was over 16 yards per return behind the conference leader and outside of the top 10 in the conference (and he still received 1/2 of the kickoffs) - as a punt returner he was 2nd overall, a full 2.5 yards per return behind the leader, but 3rd in conference games and over 8 yards per return behind the leader...being a preseason all-american has nothing to do with his numbers this year and teams clearly did not kick away from him...sorry – the numbers just don't lie...now if you're saying he should have been all-conference as a db, you might be right

as for your assertion that the original conference members stick together, how do explain the fact that m'ville had 4 more first and second team members than mu despite identical conference records...obviously, the coaches in the conference felt that m'ville was more talented than mu and showed no bias toward an original conference member

Quote from: ProudFightingScot on November 16, 2007, 09:02:29 AMI also expected Brad Daniel should have been possibly second-team.  He has an extremely strong leg and since Maryville likes to keep everyone in the stands the whole game and win close, he banged some huge kicks home.
can't say i disagree here, especially since he kicked more fg's than anyone else in the conference...perhaps a poor percentage (11 for 21 overall and 8 for 14 in conference) cost him, especially since the first and second teamers were both 8 for 9 on the season and one was 4-4 in conference while the other was 3-4 in conference - I'm sure being 2 of 5 from under 30 didn't help (graham, in contrast, was a perfect 6 for 6 under 40 with a long of 46 while vaughn was 6 for 7 under 40) - the fact that he kicked 5 kickoffs out of bounds on the season couldn't have helped, either (neither vaughn or graham had a kickoff go out of bounds on the season) - also, i could only find one game in which the m'ville kicker hit a "huge kick"  (for these purposes defined as a late kick that had an impact on the game)...the 34 yard game winner in ot vs. ferrum...of course, had he made the 27 yarder in the 2nd quarter, m'ville wouldn't have needed that kick :)

I wasn't saying he deserved to be first, I was saying he should have probably been on there somewhere, I would have said at least honorable mentioned.  He wasn't top in the league, but he did have pretty good numbers.  3rd in Punt Average and Yards.  The Leader in punt average (and second in total yards 122 I believe) had 1 76 yard put return which more that half his total yards on the year, but other than that he averaged 10 yards a punt to Locke's 12.  Kick Returns average did hurt him, but he was 2nd in total Kickoff Return yards andc oupled with the punting stats he should have been at least honorable mentioned.

As far as the Daniel went, I was happy to see him get recognician.  Kicking has been a struggle the past few years and it was great to see him get recognized.  I do agree w/ you Narch that I think I was the poor percentage that pushed him down, but I can't say I am upset he is where he is.  I personally would have put him second, maybe I am a little bias... :P

The Bishops should be stretching the kinks out by now and trying to get
some rest before the game. You know they're excited. If you go to ncwc.edu
and go to athletics, you'll se a link to the game @ 11:30 AM pregame and a
noon game start. I believe it will be video. Check it out!!!! If the defense plays
like I know they can then this will be quite interresting. Team speed will play a
huge role tomorrow. The W&J QB is a good one. Don't look for the lack of
playoff experience to be an excuse. I've watched this talented group from
DAY1. The young men have what it takes and the coaching staff is success
oriented.    GO BISHOPS!!!!!!!!
