Ever notice how bad teams often have an all-conference punter?  I guess he gets lots of chances to punt even if he doesn't have many PAT's or is rarely in FG range!  :)

It just doesn't seem like football season for me. Hanna messed up the first game and took away some of the excitement of the season. although, Wesley may have taken away even more - who knows, they seem to be struggling  a little early on.

I did sneak away from work early enough one day to go watch the scrimmage with Fork Union and I listened to the Salsibury game in a hotel lounge/bar/lobby in Chicago on my laptop (geeky, I know!) and listened to this past weekend to the Wilkes game on the internet.

Maybe I can watch the live feed at Shenandoah. Next week we finally get our first home game of the year - and it's mid October!!! I'm not even sure I want to ramp up all the tailgate stuff or just go crash one. I have an open invitation to the Long's tailgate and they're fun people.

Plus the Vikings suck again this year and my fantasy team is mediocre......

I know the cure......a few CNU blowouts!! I'd love to go watch a home game and watch CNU stomp someone 45-0. I want to see a 38-0 game with 2:00 minutes to go, 4th down and CNU goes for it!!

Ok - I feel better - let out a little aggression. Probably why back in the day I was a LB.

CNU v. Shenandoah......................CNU
It would be sweat to see Shenandoah pull a big upset

Greensboro v. BYE........................Greensboro
This is one I will get right for sure

Maryville v. NCW.......................... Maryville

Ferrum v. Averett........................Averett
Averett has to find the win column sooner or later and this looks like a good weekend to do it. They just need to learn how to tackle, run complete pass paterns, catch footballs, block, and play 4 complete quarters of hard nose football.

Methodist v. E&H......................... Methodist
This one may be closer than we think.

I was good enough to be an All American except I was too slow, not big enough, & didn't have enough talent. Otherwise...I was there!! Sorry kicker.....just couldn't pass that one up. ;) :D

THAT was funny!!!! They just need to learn how to play football......notice they are ok in the kicking game!!   :D :D :D

Well, I had planned on keeping my mouth shut and staying out of trouble but my comments were based on sitting there and watching them against Bridgewater and W&L and seeing the same thing everyone else in the stadium was witnessing. Bottom line they should have beat those two teams. Against Bridgewater the defense gave up over 100 yards in penalties just in the first half. O-Line didn't block and QB threw two interceptions that were run back for TD's (one by a Defensive Lineman (look what I found Momma). Bridgewater capitalized and Averett couldn't overcome. Offense didn't come to life until mid way second half. Against W&L (Yea someone could blame it on the rain, but hell it affected both teams evenly), my comments were correct.  The receivers stopped running and the ball was over thrown many times. Then when they did run routes correctly, they couldn't catch it. Bouncing ouff chest, off hands, etc. (Ugly) Too many sacks because O-line came off the blocks too early. Backs not hitting the hole, instead they were dancing around in the backfield. Trying to arm tackle W&L's number 9 is like trying to stop a tank. They were just going though the motions. Blown pass coverage time after time (same in Bridgewater game). Yes, last year the excuse was they were young, inexperienced, lost 26 seniors, no leadership. Well they have had all off season, recuritment season, spring practice, training camp and now 3 weeks plus an extra bye week to stop doing junior high school mistakes and get all this fixed.

Kicking..........6 for 6 on extra points. The rest of the time they are trying for 2 points because they are too deep in the hole. One for two on field goals....no opportunities. Punting......you can't punt the ball with it snapped 10 feet over your head and when you have 9 guys coming at you and the blocking breaks down, there is no time to think about placement because all you are trying to do is get it off without it getting blocked. Kickoff's .......can't score enough to grade although they are 1 for 1 on on-sides, 1 touchback and only 1 out of bounds. The net yardage is due to cover team not covering and getting down field fast enough.  That good enough for you 85....yea mine missed the fieldgoal but we won't talk about the snap being on the ground and the holder barely getting it up (laces towards the kicker) so it could be kicked. If there was anything to brag about on it, at least it was straight and in the middle, just 1 yard short. Don't worry, I chewed him out and I am sure he got chewed out during film. Bad snaps, bad holds and laces out of position are no excuse.

Bottom line Averett needs to come out and play with reckless abandonment and stop playing 3 quarter speed and go full speed the entire game. They need to stop making stupid bone head mental errors and be out there because they want to play and win and not just wear a uniform to attract the skirts.

Enough said, I am sure the Averett coaches will read this and have my head Saturday but everyone saw the issues same as I so why try to make excuses like my Va. Tech friends do when they lose. Tell it like it is and do something about it.

Twwwwaaaannnnnnnnngggggggg....

The sound of the nerve I plucked on Kickerdad. You should know by now I joke around quite a bit...this is my release. No harm. Even though I noticed you singled me out and not Hasanova or Allsky.

But seriously (ok I'm not being serious - just having fun) - go back and read your posts and see how it looks to a reader not involved with Averett as emotionally as you are:

100 yds in penalties in 1 half by the defense - translation - they don't know the rules or they are extremely undisciplined.

the receivers stopped running - they are out of shape or gave up when behind (see discipline comment above)

they (WR) couldn't catch the ball - then they are playing wrong position

Too many sacks because O-line came off blocks too early - they are out of shape or gave up when behind (see discipline comment above)

They were going through the motions - they are out of shape or gave up when behind (see discipline comment above)

net yardage due to cover team not getting down field fast enough - they are out of shape or gave up when behind (see discipline comment above)

I'm sure you probably have thought of the above already....but here's my favorite response to your quote below

"you can't punt the ball with it snapped 10 feet over your head and when you have 9 guys coming at you and the blocking breaks down" -- maybe the O-line reads your posts and snap the ball over your son's head on purpose or don't want to block for him!!

Now that was funny -

anyway....being 6-6 on PATs - can't do better than that....and getting a ball heading in the right direction on a bad snap and hold is good, too. Don't yell at him .....he's doing the best he can....just watch and support your son. I'm sure he's 100 times more frustrated than you are!! For everything you've seen from the stands...he's seen on game films being clicked back and forth. He also hears the words spoken in the locker room you'll never hear. Just be a dad and allow him to come to you and vent his frustration or share his joy....he will win a game at the last minute and probably all he wants to hear after that  is your voice saying..."great job" as you grin with pride.

kickerdad

CNU 85,

Thanks, I needed that.

P.S. Mine isn't the punter. Hasn't punted since high school.

kickerdad

85,

Sorry for the way I came across, I wasn't screaming at you or anyone on this board. It was time for me to blow a head gasket and I blew. Maybe now after reading your response, I will stay in my seat and stop pacing during the game and actually enjoy my wifes tailgate food she prepares each week. Maybe I will sneak a beer this week as long as someone else is doing the driving.

cnu63

Thanx for all the karma comments ya'll, i really needed that.  Well, A few of us are headed up to the CNU/SHenadoah game this sat and we are really looking forward to it.  Gonna get there early and tailgate for a few hours so it should be intresting, then OCT 11 at pomoco stadium we will throw down like bobby flay on the food network (sorry, im an ex olineman so I'm always thinking about food..hahaha) CNU85 should stop by and check us out.  Uncle jessie, I want to appoligize now for the A$$ wooping the hornets will be given this weekend. We can be friends on sunday but until then "IT"S ON!"

Good luck to everyone this weekend, Conference play is going to be intresting. I'm looking for an outright title this year but I know coach K and the boys will take it one game at a time and it starts at Shenadoah.

My picks:

Greensboro (of course because they have a bye)\

maryville (the boys from Tennessee will get the win)

Ferrum is too much for averett

I hate to pick outside the conference but methodist cannot get it done, sorry E&H all the way.

AND THE PICK OF THE DAY IS CNU OVER THE HORNETS..........27-0...Grahm gets 2 more fg's.

Bishop64

Anyone know if Maryville/NCWC is on radio, or provides live stats?
The only easy day was yesterday

kickerdad,

Dont take this the wrong way..But if I where you I wouldnt really vent on here or at least save it for a season recap or something.  Your sons coaches def read this and you prob put him in a awkward situation with them.  Anyways they have shown they can coach at Averett (its just about the players you have at the moment).   Also there is alot of fb left to be played...Maybe Averett has a great game to be played and negative comments couldnt help that could it?

AdmiralPapi

Mosh...I love ya to death but I gotta disagree.
1-) If there are COACHES reading fan based boards then they get what they deserve
2-) I wish I'd had more fans that passionate about Monarch football when I was playing to actually call us out for playing poorly (it was just motivation for me...as a matter of fact I still remember when NARCH...yea you NARCH said that Greensboro's QB was better than me just before our game my Jr year...I think I went for 3 td's and almost 300 yards that game, probably my best game ever)
3-) I'm sure all kickerdad is trying to get across is that he is frustrated because his son's team is not doing well and he hates seeing that ... My dad never got on d3football.com but you could certainly hear him in the stands when we weren't playing good.
Kickerdad, the way I look at it...If anyone from Averett read your post and it didn't motivate them to kick it up a notch than they need to hang up their cleats or turn in their whistle because their competitive nature is not to the level it takes to be successful on the college level.

OK, I'm off my soap box now  ;D

CNU85 should stop by and check us out.

Where are you setting up camp on the 11th?

moshergc9

Well, Wilder was a pretty good qb.

I was trying to point out one thing really.  Its the athletes time to shine and not the parent.  Put yourself in your kids shoes.  As an athlete you are usually competing all the time to remain the starter or get that starting role.  You never want to have a negative next to your name.

I just dont see how second guessing coaches (in a public forum or from the sideline) makes a team better.  Honestly I just dont think it is the place for parents to overshadow the kids moment of glory.  Take a backseat and enjoy the show.
