Ballcoach, you obviously have a bias opinion when it comes to your son. Im sure he is a nice guy and all but the fact are the facts. He is not getting the job done this year. Yes, I (redkite) got behind him last year but that was last year. Are you saying its wrong to get behind him? I wrote many times that he proved me wrong last year. But Sr., that was last year with all due respect. All 2005 season he has not had it remotely close to last years numbers. You also say this is the first game they have spread the ball out but that's not true. Here are some numbers from the 3 conference games this year.
25-9-3INT    195  2 TD    GC
21-8-2INT    117  1 TD     CNU
22-6-3 INT   108   0 TD   FC

Looks like pretty even numbers to me.

Before tonight's games here are the USAC QB numbers from the USAC website

PASSING AVG/GAME        Team Cl  G Att Cmp Int  Pct.  Yds TD Avg/G

9. JONES, Phillip...... CNU  SR  2  28  16   3  57.1  158  2  79.0
10.SWANN, Scott........ AU   SR  1  14   8   0  57.1   73  0  73.0
You can see he is dead last for starters.

I still believe its time to look to the future for the Hornets. This is not a personal attack on Hoffman but he is a SR. He will not be back to play for the Hornets in 2006. The Hornets are not going to win the USAC or even come close. Its time to start looking at other players that will help the team next year and years beyond and take the team to the next level.
A lot of your points are what he did for the team last year. Noone is taking what he did last year away from him. but what has he done this year? How many games has he hurt the team with his inconsistency this year? How many drives were killed by poor decision making? Like I said after the CNU game its time to start to look at other players, not just the QB but alot others as well. The facts are the facts Ballcoach. Even the radio was saying what Narch said that The GC QB came to play and it was The GC player that was expected to give up 3 INT's and not Hoffman.  Maybe its time to have a rotation of Hoffman and another, like the Hornets did a few years ago to sort out the QB problems they had in 2001. You also say he has big shoulders but it sure looked like he was complaining to the fans in the stands when they were getting on him in the 4th and Barnes had to tell him to shut up. Maybe instead of jawing at some guys he should be thinking about how he threw that pass into the arms of the GC player. Im sure your a fine gentleman and Im not ashamed to express my views about the team. If you would like to talk civil before the next home game feel free to email me. Im always at the games. But If your looking for me to say the Hornets should not be looking to the future your wrong. Any team that is out of the running for the NCAA playoffs should be thinking about how they can improve the next season (including Barnes with his play calling ACEWING style). Maybe the Hornets will be looking at a 5-5 season, but  dont get so upset with some criticism when it comes to your son, you say he can take it, you should also.

p.s. Again Im not trying to make this a mean spirited post so please don't take it like that. I just strongly believe that The team needs to look at what they have for 2006. They don't need to bench him but I do like the idea of a rotation style or sending out someone else in the 2nd half. What do they have to lose?

Jessie ,
I need to get out of this conversation(nothin to do w/ you)....just because we threw 23 times in 3 consecutive games does not mean we spread the field...look at the yards per completion this year...something like almost 18ypc...that gives you an idea...it might be the highest in the conf...and that is not necesarily a good thing. Also I am very happy for Proteus and his record setting nite..he is a good one....different offense...routes...definitely different receivers learning to run routes and go up for the ball. What I was saying before is that in previous games we were predominately throwing on third down and sending a back and Proteus out and keepin everyone in to block...almost never throwing on 1 or 2 down..last nite we opened it up a bit and the numbers were up. If we had held on to the lead and he finished with195 yards 2td's and that 1 pick that ended up being a td for GC you would have said he had a prtetty good nite. I guess my point too was that you seemed to be layin the game on him when we had 3 other crucial things happen that put us in a precarious position (when he was played such a major role in all 4 of our TD's)
Jessie, please also remember that half of his picks are balls thrown up the sideline or fades to backs that are 5'8"" and double covered(although they have made a couple great catches)...it is what he has to go to at times no other receiver open or in a route. When you also are only throwin on 3 down..well??
Anyway, I am done w/ the conversation no disrespect intended and I am a freakin nice guy...but now I am
P i$$ed...not at you just in general. Have a good Sunday.

The Pride radio said the bus broke down.

Sidenote, it would be a very classless thing for barnes to bench a senior leader and start looking to the future at the expense of a player who has been productive in the past...More times than not its the Oline that dictates how well your qb plays.

narch

ferrum is getting a little more respect in the top 25...what happens when mc beats cnu and wins out, then cnu beats ferrum and wins out leaving the usasac with three one-loss teams  ???

Pat Coleman

They probably will split the Top 25 votes ... but I'm guessing that's not as important as determining who gets the AQ.

Ehhhhh not gonna happen narch, hate to burst your bubble.  ;)

AdmiralPapi

Narch, any news on Hill?  Is he gonna be in the lineup for this weekend?

pat - i could care less about top 25 votes...just want that aq - the monarchs could have taken a big step with a win friday - as it is they've got to win out and hope for cnu to beat ferrum - certainly a tough task, but i think it's doable

cnufan - the bubble is intact until at least saturday - this is the year that the monarchs will get the cnu monkey off their backs...i can feel it (of course, i've felt it every other time they've played cnu, as well :))

papi - tracking down some info. on hill as we speak - any upset of cnu will have to be done with the full compliment of game breakers

cnufan

I also heard the game is now at 130 and not 100, as originally agreed to. Same as last year, 130 game time during homecoming weekend, correct??

Insideslant/D

Is Averett and Ferrum giving up alot of points and winning, or is it they just aren't playing good defensive football?  And if this is the case, the USA Chanpionship game will come down to those two teams, providing that CNU wins.  Holler back big boys....................

narch

papi - hill has a nagging groin injury - he did not play at all vs. ferrum, but was a game-time decision after warm-ups - hopefully he'll be ready to go this week

Check out this week's Around the Mid-Atlantic - featuring a great story by Pat Cummings on the newest conference member, Maryville.

Good work, Pat, you make it look easy and I know it's not.

cnufan

Be interesting to see if Mr. Cummings will adjust his regional poll depending on the out come of the CNU/Methodist game this weekend. If CNU wins, where will the captains land, still on the Honorable Mention list or perhaps in the top five. And if the Monarchs win, will they end up someone where in the top five or honorable mention.

Uncle Jessie

No more tents at Shentel Stadium!!!
In todays school paper the university president said that the school approved to build a end zone locker room building. Hopfully it will be done for the 2006 season. Im sure both the Hornets and the visitors to SU will be happy not to use the tents anymore.
