Gaines fumbles for CNU and Maryville returns it for a TD and cuts the CNU lead to 38-31 with less than 2 minutes to play.

Onside kick goes out of bounds though and after a first down, the Captains take a knee.

Correction, NCWC 49, Averett 24   Final .... I am sure the Averett fans will agree, I have no idea where they found the officials today.  Terrible on both sides of the ball. Made for an interesting game...

just got a look at the mu/fc box score/game story and it looks like the monarchs didn't have enough to hold on in the 4th quarter...which follows a bit of a trend of mu giving up lots of 4th quarter points this season - another trend...giving up lots of yards on the ground (369) and having trouble running it (53) - it looks like the monarchs were game for the better part of 3 quarters today, though...now they need to sustain that effort over 4 quarters...they've got a tall task coming up next weekend with the captains...a big-time upset would sure feel nice :)

Narch, I hope your guys pull it out.

A win would be nice.

Well . . . . .  not a pleasant night for The Pride.  :'(

After spotting Shenandoah 14 points in the first quarter on turnovers and a bad snap to the GC punter, The Pride came back to tie it by halftime - 14 to 14. GC blocked a FG try at the end of the first half.  ;D

Thats where the game ended - or should have ended.  :-\

The second half was full of GC penalties, turnovers, failed fake punt and just some poor play. The Pride played hard until the end, but just didn't have enough to overcome mistakes. Kudos to the Hornets for taking advantage.  :-*

Final score: 35 - 14 Shenandoah wins.  :-[

BTW, Lowe scored again on a great catch in the endzone on a great pass by GC QB Cap. First GC TD was on a short run by Bacon. Hopefully our guys can go to Danville and take care of business at Averett.   8)

Narch,

I listened to the game yesterday, and It could have turned out differently. The Monarchs have some talent, but according to the announcers, they are young. Their passing game was really too much for Ferrum, even though FC had three INT's and Ferrum's running game was a challenge for Methodist.

I think if they can keep their heads up, they can give CNU all they will want.

I really have a hard time understanding how they have the record they do, after listening to the game yesterday. Good luck against the Captains!
BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

You can legitimately reply cn who off of one win in 4 tries? Sounds about right.

I just got back from Maryville. While I was extremely impressed by the 1st half I was just as disappointed by the 2nd half. The intensity was completely gone after halftime. Another thing Im upset with was the play calling at the end of the game. Up by 14 with under 3 minutes to go we are still throwing the ball? and when they finally called a run they call a risky option with a back up running back in which resulted in a fumble and a TD for maryville. Now its a 7 point game with 1:30 left and Maryville still has 3 timeouts because we were passing the ball. I'm happy with the win. But we don't need to make the score so close.

CNU, we have a lot we can improve on. Don't start feeling good about yourself yet. You have much more to prove. Get up on Methodist and never slow down. Pound and pound them into submission. If you find yourselves up by a large margin, remember how Maryville got back into the game. Every second until the whistle. Every minute for 60 minutes. Leave no doubt next week. Knock em down. Kick em when they are down and stomp them out.

Congrats to CNU on a good win.  Your running attack overwhelmed our defense in the first half as you jumped to a 24-0 lead.  Got to be proud of our Fighting Scots on not giving up and making it a 7 point loss to the Captains.

I agree with crazylegs, why in the world are you trying to throw deep passes with less than 2 minutes left in the game and up by 14 unless your trying to run up the score.  Poor decisions by your staff almost cost CNU at the end.

Ogun is the most physical running back I have seen in years, however your fullback is very impressive opening up the holes for Ogun.

Very proud of Conner throwing for 339 yards against the Captians.  I think Idlette is the best receiver in the conference with 9 catches for 149 yards.

Finally, this was the largest crowd to watch a MC game with around 5,000 at the game.  Great atmosphere for a college football game and proud of the support of our fans....

Wow....that must have beem 2 different games! CNU was up by 24......wow. Gotta give Maryville a ton of credit for playing the entire game. Sounds like CNU play calling was suspect. Not sure what that is all about. Good thing I wasn't able to listen to the game. I would have more grey hair. I was In Charlottesville watching yet another Virginia school beat a North Carolina school.  :D :D

During half time UVA was recognized for having the highest winning percentage for all sports in Va for D1 schools. I think CNU won the same award for D2 and D3 schools. Riki - is that true? If so, what was the winning %? UVA was around 63%.

Played golf in Wintergreen this morning....brrrr....we had to delay tee time to let course thaw!!! 27 degrees.......I'm still cold!!
