Score from the MU game doesn't truly reflect the actual game.  MU had many chances to really open up the score.  The offense has got to take care of the ball and clean up the penalties.  Credit to Guilford for taking advantage of the opportunities. They were moving the ball in the last minute but it was ultimately a late hit on the qb that put them in field goal range.  Surprised their kicker missed.  He had been good all day from that distance.  Defensively, MU faired much better than last week.  The secondary looked much better and the line was better matched to guilfords o-line.  Reggie Scales broke out for several big runs and he is going to be a game changer if he touches the ball enough.  From a coaching stand point, MU has a group of above average line backers but MU has not run a single blitz package all year.  They are going to have to start getting some pressure on the qb.  Good week for a bye, several key players got banged up and need some time to rehab.  Good luck to everyone next weekend.

It has come to my attention that we have recently lost the lives of two former Captains and I just wanted to take the time out to pay my respects to both families. I personally had the privilege to share the field with Erik Wellumson and although he may not be known for what he did on the field at CNU he was a great locker room guy whom always had a positive attitude.

Personally, I learned a lot of life lessons in the CNU program but the most important thing that Coack K, Dean, Legg, Antolik, and Lustig preached the most was "winning and losing will come and go, but the bonds/friendships you develop with your teammates will last a lifetime". To all of my brothers future, current, and past I love you and wish you all the best in the future.

With all of that being said RIP Erik Wellumson and Peter Morgan you all will be missed but never forgotten.

cnufinest54, it is sad to hear of the loss of your football brothers.  It seems their lives were cut short at a young age according to the years you played.  Your coaches said it best when speaking of winning and losing and friendships that will last forever.  I know it is everyones desire to be winners.  Unfortunately, everyone can't have a winning score.  I wish the players of today had that mindset.  Regardless of the score, when you have battled alongside your friends and given yourself and your team mates 100%, you can't be called a loser.  Winners can't be beat.

Can any of you guys from Greensboro tell me if there is a decent hotel close to the stadium? Any recommendations on a good place to eat while we are down there?

Thanks
There are at least 20 different chains within 5 miles or so of Guilford - and Armfield Athletic Stadium is on campus in the northwest part of Greensboro.  The college is on the corner of Friendly Ave and New Garden Rd.  New Garden Rd leads you to the college from US 220 and Bryan Blvd while Friendly Ave leads you in from I-73.  On the other side of Friendly Ave is Guilford College Rd which leads you in from I-40.   Easy.

There are so many, I can't name the hotels, but look for things near the Airport/Hwy 68 (Exit 210), Guilford College Rd (Exit 213), Wendover Ave (Exit 214) or Battleground Ave in the northwest or west side of town.

Same with restaurants - at least a hundred close by.  I'd probably go with Red Robin (burgers), Chili's, Tripp's, Buffalo Wings, East Coast Wings, Salsaritas, J. Butler's Bar & Grill, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Phoenix Asian Cuisine, Ham's (American) - all on New Garden within 1-3 miles north of the college or Elizabeth's (Italian) and Poblano's (Mexican) just around the corner on Battleground Ave.  Fast food chains, of course, are everywhere - across the street from the college and every road leading in.

Hope this helps!

Hasanova, thanks. never been to Greensboro so wasnt sure, sounds like plenty is available. Appreciate the help.

AUPOP, you're welcome.   Greensboro's a city of 250,000 and in a metro area of a million +.  You won't have any trouble finding a restaurant or a hotel.  Guilford's surrounded by residential areas and there are a lot of shopping/dining opportunities close by.  Have a safe trip!

I just ran across this article from the Roanoke Times and World News about some good stuff going on at Ferrum.

In a time where the economy is making things difficult for everyone, Ferrum is progressing with record enrollment, new buildings, and a new Men's LaCrosse team.

For those who are interested in a history nugget, the link below is to the feature on Bobby Bowden;s first coaching victory. His  first Howard (now Samford) win came at Maryville College 50 years ago this Saturday. Feature includes Bobby narrating some video clips from the game that the staff found over the summer.

And as for the MC opening loss to Huntingdon there's links for the paper's coverage. The trend continued against Centre, lots of offense, not enough scoring.

Mr. Holmes,

I heard about Erik Wellumson at the rock and roll half marathon and was saddened. I wasn't aware of Peter Morgan's passing. It sounds like you were able to absorb the lessons the coaches were teaching and have become a better person because of them. May God bless Erik and Peter.

Airborne Dutch

Former Central (Iowa) player and current paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne here. Just read the story about Greensboro's Rodney Beasley. Pretty sure that I was at the ceremony that Sgt. Beasley received his second Purple Heart from President Bush. Just wanted to say how great it is that a fellow paratrooper is playing D3 ball, especially after some serious wounds. Greensboro and Rodney Beasley has a new fan. Good luck to the Pride.
